I can't drag and drop anything

I was using senuti to put my songs into itunes and all the sudden it stopped working, the import button and the drag and drop feature. I thought it was a problem with senuti but now I can't drag and drop even my downloaded songs into itunes (i have to do it from the file menu) this is ok i guess but it doesn't work for senuti and i want the rest of my songs! what would make itunes stop having this function? Thanks for any advice

  • I can't Drag and drop anything in iMovie11

My problem is that i cannot drag and drop anything in iMovie 11. Therefore i can't add transitions or anything like that. Please Help.

If third-party software called "Air Display" or "AirParrot" is installed, remove it according to the developer's instructions, then restart the computer. Back up all data before making any changes.

  • Can't Drag and Drop Anything

I've installed OS X Lion and now when I click on an icon on my desktop and drag it, it follows along nicely, only letting go of the mouse button doesn't drop it.  In fact, nothing does.  Instead the icon hangs onto the cursor as if I have kept holding down the mouse button.  If I want to drag something to the trash, when I hover over the Trash icon and let go, it acts like I'm still holding down the mouse button and instead opens up the Trash folder.  It's not limited to trash, it's just where I first noticed it.  I can't move files between folders.
This pretty much happens across the board, too.  Drag an icon off of the dock to remove it, it just hangs onto the mouse pointer and never goes away.  Drag an icon from the icon bar at the top (command-click) and you can pick up the icon and move it, but never drop it.  Is there a solution to this?

How amazing... I have EXACTLY the same problem...
    My Rig
Macbook Pro 15", Mid 2009, 2.66 Ghz. (Dual Graphics - GeForce 9400M & GeForce 9600M GT) running OS X 10.7 Build 11A511 - The Gold Master and eventually Retail version.
I have been running Snow Leopard and its subsequent updates, since its release. I have never had any issues with it at all, it was just the idiosyncrasies of the 3rd party software that would cause problems, but only minor, By the time Lion came around (I am a Developer so I got the GM in early July) I actually had a very stable rock solid computer
I am very methodical backing up, so when Lion was publicly released, I did the final Snow Leopard Migration assistant update, did a complete time machine backup.
I noticed that the build of the newly released Lion was the same as the development GM, so I decided to do what a normal customer would do, download it from the app store and install it on my now very stable Snow Leopard installation.
After the download finished, I clicked the install, nothing else and as per normal, thirty or so minutes pass and a restart happens, Lion is installed successfully over the top of my Snow Leopard.
Now here is when the problems started :-
When Lion booted, I just got a gray thatched screen, the login window was obviously there bust I couldn't see it, so typing blindly, I typed my password and the computer then loaded up my user account.
When that had finished, It looked nearly identical to the old Snow Leopard (a good thing). but when I clicked and dragged ANYTHING, in the Finder or in an App, what ever I was dragging stuck to the cursor and will not go away. I had to force quit the Finder or the App in question to get the cursor to "drop" the icon. (The problem in this thread)
the Second issue, was nothing with video or photos displayed... If I launched Safari 5.1 for example, and go to YouTube, the YouTube page would load, but as soon as it finished, It would flick to a blank white unclickable page.
Even the System Preferences were effected... If I went to Desktop & Screensaver the screensaver examples would just be a white box, nothing in them.. Desktop pictures were white. Even in the Finder, all the ICONS were white boxes.. no matter which view you put them in...
So these 2 combined issues are are pain...
anyway I solved the white page / Icons / screensaver / Flash / Youtube / problem by going to System Preferences, Energy Saver and turning the Graphics option to "Higher Performance"
If you have it set to "Better Battery Life" - the white screen problem reoccurs.
So I am now at the same stage as all of you. I have icons, text, browser elements, etc all sticking to the cursor when I go to drag them.. They just will not let go..
    My temporary workaround :-
Create another user account on your computer
Log into yours (which will be experiencing the stuck icon issue) then just switch to the newly created account and back to yours again.
That fixes it...I don't know why, but it does.
I tested it the other way as well... If you log into the newly created account first, it WILL experience the sticking icon problem.. Switching to your account and back again, fixes it...
All of this is really unnecessary and totally annoying... so I hope someone figures out what the **** is going on... I don't want to keep switching accounts every time I boot up the laptop...

  • Can no longer drag and drop anything

I've been searching the forums for an answer, but can't seem to find this topic. I can no longer drag and drop anything in the finder. I first noticed this when trying to drag and drop songs in iTunes to a playlist -- nothing would "drop."
Now I've noticed that I can't drag and drop anything anywhere. No files will drop to software, I can't drag files from one folder to another, nor can I drop files to a different hard drive.
This was all working fine yesterday, and I haven't made any changes to my system in the interim. All I've done is restart after discovering the problem, but that didn't fix anything.
    Any ideas?

Where have you looked? What did you use? Double-click on the boot volume's Desktop icon, CMD+J, select list view, click on Users triangle, then your username's triangle, then its Library triangle, then its Preferences triangle. In that folder is com.apple.finder.plist. It exists for all user accounts. Without it, your machine won't work.

  • Can't Drag and Drop in iTunes 10!

This was driving me crazy! You can't move tracks within a playlist or drag and drop content from iTunes to your iPod.
I hope that Apple will fix this soon! Until Apple fixes this, your best bet is to download iTunes 9. I did, and all my drag
    and drop functionality is back.
    Downloaded it here: iTunes9.dmg

I'm having the same problem, I can't drag and drop anything to or from anywhere in iTunes.
I've also found a workaround.  It's a PITA, and a kludge, but it works every time.  The problem is, it only works for one item or multiple items in a single folder at a time.
if you right click on the song, and select "Show in Finder", you can drag the raw file from the finder window into your ipod/ipad and into playlists.

  • Can't drag and drop in Finder

I'm liking Leopard so far I guess, but I can't drag and drop anything on the Desktop or from Finder windows. Am I missing something?
    Jer

Had the same problem. Reinstalled the software - all is well. Cured many ills with the initial installation - don't bother trying to play with permissions, etc. Just reinstall.
Thank goodness this isn't Micro$oft or you'd have to sit in front of the computer to keep answering the "Okay to reboot" questions every time a chunk of code is installed.

Thanks Pondini but i have closed time machine, removed external hard drive.
    Did you eject it first?
Now i cant drag and drop anything on my desk top, or mail or any other application. Ive tried moving folders, documents none of it works. Even moving around documents within a folder, it wont let me chnage the position of files.
That shouldn't be related to Time Machine (especially if the backups aren't mounted).
What happens when you try those things?  Do you get any messages?  Anything you can post a screenshot of?
    Have you tried a Restart?
Does it happen in another user account?  (If you don't have one, create one via System Prefs > Users & Groups.)

  • Can't drag and drop in iTunes

    What's going on with iTunes (10.4 (80))?
I can't drag and drop my songs, re-order my playlists or anything?? I can import a song into a playlist, but it just appears as the last item in the list, I can't place it where I want.
I've checked other complaints here, but there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer: is this a bug? Is it going to be fixed soon? If not, can I downgrade to a previous version?

I am having a similar problem. For some time I have had sudden loss of drag and drop so that I cannot even move a song around in a playlist, much less to another list. The only thing that stops the is a full system reboot. I have been waiting for a fix however version 10 is much worse. I am having this fail almost every day. I am running an internet radio show from my computer and use iTunes to set up playlists. When I have this problem happen, I have to kick my listeners off and reboot. This is NOT an acceptable situation. I am running iTunes 10.01 on a 2.8 GHz Core i7 iMac with 8 GB of onboard memory. This problem has been happening since at least version 9, however.
Somebody at Apple please fix this! Or tell me a workaround that does not involve me closing all other programs There is no excuse for this problem continuing.

  • Can't drag and drop attachments into mail fullscreen

Have a weird issue.  In lion I could drag and drog into a new mail message by dragging the attachment to the hot corner then to the fullscreen mail app then onto the new mail message.
Now for some reason in Mt. Lion it will no longer do this.
I can do it when mail is not in full screen mode or if I create a new mail message in another desktop.
    Any suggestions?
And no I do not have air display on this computer (did do a search before posting)
    Thanks!

When this happens can you drag and drop regular files and icons etc?
I did a clean install, setup several user accounts last night. Dragging and dropping was working in my main user account last night. This morning (computer on all night) I could not drag and drop anything in that particular user account including mail attachements. Other accounts worked fine. Thought it was a permissions issue but they were fine.
Ended up trashing the user account and resetting it up and everything back to normal.

  • Can't drag and drop attachments in mail. Major issue!

I have to restart the computer to drag and drop attachments to an email. If I want to do another drag and drop to another email I have to restart again to make it work. It is a real pain. Do any of you guys know if their is a file I can trash to make this work or I have to wait till apple has a update to fix this? Thanks.

  • Can't drag and drop on desktop and I've tried all suggestions from previous threads

Yesterday I found that I can't drag and drop any files on my desktop. I get the white circle with a line through it when I try to drag anything. I can drag off of my desktop to my HD and to the trash but I can't drag anything back.
I've read all of the previous threads about it and have tried all of the poetntail fixes including:
Creating a new user account and switching back and forth
    Sleep / Wake
    Relaunching Finder
Checking the Dragging option in Universal Access
Checking all of my settings in prefrences
(I don't have Air Display, Airparrot or any of the other listed problematic 3rd party programs)
I even reinstalled Lion and the problem still exists
Anybody have any other pointers, or should I head into the Genius Bar?

Repairing the permissions of a home folder in Lion is a complicated procedure. I don’t know of a simpler one that always works.
Back up all data now. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to its present state
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    chmod -R -N ~
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. When a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) appears below what you entered, it’s done. You may see a few error messages about an “invalid argument” while the command is running. You can ignore those. If you get an error message with the words “Permission denied,” enter this:
    sudo !!
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
Next, boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the Recovery screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A Reset Password window opens. You’re not going to reset the password.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • Can't drag and drop files into Indesign.

My ability to dragon and drop files into InDesign has stopped. I also cannot copy and paste. I have tried dropping previously used jpg's and PDFs as well as copying text from Acrobat, Chrome and Word. I reset the prefrences with control option command shift, but still no luck - I can't drag and drop files. Also, I cannot move files with my mouse in the program.

Nobody can help you without system information. Could be anything from graphics driver issues to a defective mouse to a busted operating system...

  • Can't drag and drop

i can't seem to drag and drop anything from anywhere to anywhere.  CD to External Drive, External drive to internal drive, documents folder to mounted external drive, etc.

    Hi, Kate -
I notice that the examples you give -
CD to External Drive, External drive to internal drive, documents folder to mounted external drive...
    - all involve copying to or from the external drive. Is this correct? Is the problem limited to transactions involving only the external drive?
If so, then it may be related to the other problem you've posted re keeping the drive mounted.
Do a Get Info on the external drive -
    • What format is shown for it?
    • How full is it (numbers shown for Capacity and Available)?
    • Look at the bottom section of the Get Info window, the section named Sharing and Permissions; open that section by clicking the gray reveal triangle in front of that section name if it is not open. What is stated in that section just above the permissions listings, and for the permissions themselves?

  • Can't drag and drop or copy paste

I have an iMac with a fusion drive using yosemite.  It started a couple weeks ago where the progress bar would not show up during copying files.  It seems I can not drag and drop files between folders, drives, or jump drives.  I also notice some files that are grayed out that appear to be some of the files I wanted to move or copy on my external drives.  They say they were created in 1969 and modified in 1984.  I cannot delete these at all.  I fixed permissions, restarted, and reinstalled Yosemite.  I tried deleting a file in the library/preferences called com.apple.finder, which did not do anything either.  Any Ideas?

Select the item in the Finder and open the Info window. If the Created date is January 24, 1984, see below.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Select the text on the line below by dragging across it. Don't include the blank space at the end of the line. Only the text should be highlighted.
    touch -t 198001010000
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V, then press the space bar.
Now switch to the Finder and and select the item(s) in question. Drag into the Terminal window. More text will be added to what you entered.
Click in the Terminal window to activate it, then press return.
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear. You can then quit Terminal.
    Relaunch the Finder.

  • Upgrade from eprint to hp connected - can't drag and drop apps to arrange them like I did before!

I upgraded from eprint to HP Connected today.  Now it won't let me back into eprint website (and, yes, I would not have gone back if something didn't work right at hp connected).
I could drag and drop the placement of my apps to arrange them as I want them on the printer display touchscreen at eprint.   However, I can't drag or drop anything at hp connected and I don't see any help on managing the placement of apps on your printer.
How can this be done?  It was easy before - just drag and drop and website updated printer.  I have a officejet 7610.
    Thanks in advance!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Thanks for trying but your answer is incorrect, according to an email I received today from HP Connected:
"I have reviewed your email. I understand that you have questions related to rearranging the order of the apps on the printer. I know this can be frustrating, and I want you to know you're certainly valuable to us and I want to do everything possible to ensure your complete satisfaction. The following information should provide the answers you need:
    1) Unfortunately when HP launched the new website (www.hpconnected.com) they did not include a method of rearranging the apps on the printer. They may include this feature in a future update, however as this time it is not available.
    2) If you have made the upgrade from eprintcenter to HP Connected you do not have the option of returning. Eprintcenter is in the process of being eliminated and unfortunately retuning to the old site is not possible."
I hope <<S-O-O-N>> HP fixes this new website -- it's crazy to take away any controls like this from their customers and not either embellish them or at least leave them be.
I may take this 7610 OJ back for a new Brother 11x17 all-in-one --- they look nice )
