I can't drag and drop files into a playlist. Any ideas?

As I often do, I went to drag four new files into a playlist in iTunes and suddenly they will not go in. I just get that circle with a diagonal line across indicating that this is not possible.
Lately iTunes has been giving me all sorts of problems such as not recognizing my iPhone or iTouch.
Has anyone else been having these sorts of problems??

Try to drag them directly to "Music" or "Movies" or whatever, rather than a specific playlist. THEN drag them to the playlist --
Given your other issues, sounds like you iTunes library might be corrupt...

Can't drag and drop files into Attachments while in Administrator mode

I can drag and drop files into attachment easily when I'm not in Administrator mode. But I need to be in Administrator mode at work and therefore for some reason I cannot drag and drop files into attachments; I'm forced to manually search and select particular files for attaching, which significantly slows my day-to-day work.
Is it a bug?
I have the up-to-date version of Thunderbird and I use MS Windows 7 Ultimate.

To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try one of the following:
*Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.

Can't drag and drop files into Indesign.

My ability to dragon and drop files into InDesign has stopped. I also cannot copy and paste. I have tried dropping previously used jpg's and PDFs as well as copying text from Acrobat, Chrome and Word. I reset the prefrences with control option command shift, but still no luck - I can't drag and drop files. Also, I cannot move files with my mouse in the program.

Nobody can help you without system information. Could be anything from graphics driver issues to a defective mouse to a busted operating system...

JollyGeri, after I installed the 10.5.3 version a few days ago I began to have the same problem. The first time i used iTunes after the new install is when the problem of not being able toI manipulate my music by dragging and dropping began. My computer is a Mac and it appears you are using Windows Vista so the solution to my problem will likely be different than yours. I'll just mention that on a mac there is a program called disk utility and with that we mac users can have it repair permissions. After a second attempt yesterday to repair permissions I was able to move music by dragging and dropping as I previously could. However, when I opened itunes today and tried, the same problem was back. I've used the disk utility program to repair permissions again but so far the problem persists. I hope someone is able to help you with your situation. If there is a similar type of program on your windows pc, perhaps by repairing the disk permissions you may be able to get your problem solved. This is very frustrating and I believe there is something in the new version of iTunes that has caused this because I have not installed any other upgreades, etc. since downloading and installing the itunes upgrade. After installing iTunes 10.5.1, I can no longer drag and drop files into iTunes. Any suggestions?

Basically when I try to drag files from a folder into iTunes, (drag and drop within iTunes is fine) the little picture of the circle with a slash through it shows up and wont allow me to drop it into iTunes. I can't see any logic behind removing the drag and drop function, especially when adding a new folder is now a multi-step process that is far from obvious. to start a new playlist with local folder content you now need to:enter settingsclick into advanced settings (basically all settings now seem to be "advanced"?)manually find and add the foldergo through the adventure of finding the files in your library.
-- because they may or may not be listed under "local files" - you won't know because Ctrl+F is also removed. so you have to remember/know what the album you added is called and search for that. if you have a mixed bag of file names from various albums, you're basically shafted; there's no way to find them all with a single search.then you can add them to playlisteta: but wait! there's more! if you have more than 15 files? you're **bleep** out of luck, because the search will only display the first 15 hits among your local files, and then show you spotify library tracks.I can't help but feel as though spotify is doing everything they can to stop us using spotify to listen to local files, as bugs that make it more or less impossible persist through multiple versions - and now features that seem to me to be basic functionality are being removed?mega minus points from someone who's been using spotify since 2008.

Without that tool I'm buying literally a tenth of the music that I used to - because I don't want to have to buy then sort. I always did it the other way around. Stuck a song in my list. Listened more carefully later. Then purchased. Why is innovation always about the erasure of old features rather than the adding of new tools? VIP lists are gone. I can't see everyone else's playlists anymore and use them to discover new music. It drives me nuts. I'm almost done with Itunes after years of loyalty. Now I just listen to my Ipod for old stuff and use Spotify for discovering new music. Too bad. I have loved my Ipod very much!

Update: I seem to have fixed the problem! I went to the "summary" section of my iPod after clicking on the device on the left side of iTunes. I checked the box that allowed me to "manually manage music and videos" and applied this option. The songs are syncing! And, yay, they're playing on my iPod now! Hopefully, this helps anyone else who might have this problem. There might be other issues, but this is working for now.

is it possible to drag and drop files into folders in iPad reader? or iTunes? It is very clunkey to have to click each separate file to instruct it to move to the folder. Better still, can I just sync an existing folder on my hard drive so the pdf's inside always remain up to date on my iPad?

There is no way to drag and drop in Reader on an iPad.
There is no way to sync PDFs in a folder on your hard drive to those inside of Reader.
There are readers (which are NOT free) which let you do some of these things and have more capabilities. You might check out PDF Expert from Readdle which costs $9.99 US.

I recently installed iTunes 4.3.5 and can't drag and drop music into my 'music library' anymore. Every time I try to drag the music from a folder into the library, that little circle with the line thru it comes up (not allowed symbol). I've been using iTunes for years and am pretty computer savvy... I have no idea what the problem is. The only way I can add music right now is if I go to File>Add File to Library and that takes way too long, especially when adding 20-30 songs. I am using Windows 7 and I have an iPhone 4. Please help! This is extremely frustrating.

A lot of people are having this problem. Most commonly, they are using a Wacom tablet, and sometimes updating its driver helps. I don't have a Wacom, but still have the "can't drag" problem. Here are the workarounds I have found in the forums so far...
1. "gusto drag" -- slide the pointer across a song and click.
2. clicking with both left and right mouse buttons.
3. selecting items and do a "create playlist from selected". Then select the iPod and autofill from that playlist.

I just installed two widgets that are supposed to function by dragging and dropping files into them. How do I get access to files? How do you get files from the Finder into the dashboard?

You need to activate Dashboard's "Developer Mode" in order to keep widgets active on the desktop.
Open Terminal and enter the following command:

Close Terminal, log out of your user account, and log back in again. To move a widget onto your desktop, activate Dashboard and start dragging the widget to the desktop. Press F12 before letting up on the mouse button to close Dashboard, and the widget should now be permanently affixed to the desktop. Drag to your desired location.

There are apps that will let you drag and drop files from the computer to the iPad. I have an app called File Manager Folder + that will let you drag and top files and also transfer them via WiFi. It's a pretty useful app actually.

Mac: can I drag and drop files from Finder into Files panel

I am relatively new to Mac so forgive me if this is obvious.
I just switched from Windows to Mac and now something I used to
know how to do in Windows I can't figure out how to do on Mac. In
Windows I used to open an Explorer window over Dreamweaver, select
some files, and drap and drop them into the Files panel in
Dreamweaver, and they would be sucked in.
Now on the Mac whenever I select the Finder window to select
files to drag and drop, the Dreamweaver panels disappear
completely, rather than just move beneath the Finder window. So
when I'm ready to drag and drop there's no Dreamweaver to drop
into. I see that if I put focus on Dreamweaver, then Finder won't
disappear, and I can click on Finder to begin a drag without
Dreamweaver disappearing but then it is unresponsive to a drop.
In short, I can't seem to drag and drop files from Finder
into Dreamweaver on the Mac. Am I missing something? I'm using
Dreamweaver CS3 on Leopard if that makes any difference.

I don't believe you can do this on the Mac platform. The only
other thing you could try is to use Spaces and have the Finder open
in one Space and then drag it over to Dreamweaver in another space.
Outside of that I can't think of how this would work.
