I can't drag the Icon into the Applic. folder
I have a iMac and can't drag the FF icon into the Applications folder
Firefox 5 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 5 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

Can't drag an icon to the dock
I am a recent Mac convert and I just set up user profiles on my Mac Mini for my two kids. My son plays Pirates of the Caribbean online. I installed it on the Mac and when I opened the applications folder and tried to drag the icon into the doc it wouldn't drag and I got an error message saying I couldn't launch the application from there. I wasn't trying to start it from there, only drag it. There was no problem performing the same task with Safari. I also had no problem dragging the icon to the dock under my user profile (admin.) Does anyone have any ideas of what I need to do to fix this?
Thanks! If you have Parental Controls turned on you must explicitly allow an application to launch. You've downloaded a new program and by default it cannot be run. You'll need to open Parental Controls, find the program in the list of applicaitons, and put a checkmark on it to give permission to it to run.
Also when you get application update alerts and update a program, be sure to try running it immediately. Sometimes Parental Controls will see an updated program as being totally new and you'll need to go back in and set its permission again. -
After You Drag an Icon Into the Dock, Can You Change the Way it Looks?
I work with files that are on a few Windows servers, so I can't change the icons of any files or folders that are on those servers. I've dragged each of the servers' icons into my dock so I can access them quickly, but all the icons in the dock look the same. Is there a way I can change the icons in the dock that represent those servers? There's no "Get Info" for them so you can't copy and paste the same way you can with folder/file icons that reside on your hard drive.
I created an alias (shortcut), copied it onto my desktop, changed that icon, then dragged that into my dock, and then deleted all the original aliases, but it doesn't hold the link, so I want to be able to drag the server icon into the dock and then access that icon and change it.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
LloydAnything on this yet? The whole "alias/shortcut" thing didn't work. I actually got it to work but after restarting the computer the icons in the dock show as question marks.
Isn't there a resource file or something I can dig into to change those icons in the dock?
Thanks... -
same as above, but at the end of the download it goes "boink" and closes
Hello ndorrien, you cannot complete the installation because [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-no-longer-works-mac-os-10-4-or-powerpc#os=mac&browser=fx16 Firefox no longer works with Mac OS X 10.4 or PowerPC processors]

I've been asked to update my Firefox two days in a row, and have downloaded the update, but no ICON appears for me to drag into the applications folder. Why is this?
Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.<br />
Open the DMG file and drag the Firefox program to the application folder on your hard drive.<br />
You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but drag it out of the DMG folder instead.

Can't drag a table into the SQL worksheet anymore under 1.5.5
IIRC, in 1.5.4 I could expand my list of tables and then drag it into the SQL worksheet page at which point a SELECT statement for the table with all of the columns would be generated.
This does not appear to be happening for me in 1.5.5Had the same thing happening over the last versions. It never worked in a session, unless deleting the setting dir. But upon restart it would be messed up again.
After upgrading to 1.5.5, it started working again and had no problems since.
The team pretty much waived the problem away because it's apparently something with our setups and exceptions aren't worth the effort. The only way to get this looked at is opening a SR on Metalink.

Folks,
I found my wife dropping the icon of her backup file into the trash icon on the dock. She had just completed using Time machine and when to uninstall the Gdrive. I told her this was an erroneous practice. She disagreed. Who is right?
Thanks in advance.http://www.g-technology.com/kbase/files/G-RAID-Manual-Unmount.pdf

Installing iTunes has turned all of the icons into the itunes icon.
Hi, recently after updating iTunes, it turned all of the icons on Windows 7 into itunes icon. Uninstalling itunes will restore it but installing any version of itunes will bring the problem back. I backed up my data and did a clean install of Windows 7 SP1. As soon as I migrated my data and reinstalled iTunes, the problem comes back. Any suggestions?
Try Reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected. -
I don't know what else to tell you.
I downloaded firefox again, deleted the earlier version, and now firefox is working properly.

Why in Mavericks can't I drag the icon at the top of Preview?
Since upgrading to Mavericks, I have been not able to use the icon next to the file name at the top of the Preview window to select that file in a Finder window.
Specifically: I open a document in Preview. I decide I want to send it to someone. I open a mail program, and go to add an attachment. The mail program opens a file selector. I click and hold the icon in the Preview window and attempt to drag the icon into the file selector.
Before Mavericks, this invariably worked (provided the Preview file was up-to-date, i.e. I had saved any changes). Now it does not. Instead, the icon blinks when I click it but refuses to be dragged anywhere.
What's going on?You can drag the favicon to the left of the Location Bar (or a tab, or a link) to any bookmark folder including the bookmarks toolbar.
The Title Bar is part of the window you can't drag a title on that anywhere it would move the Window. -
Can't drag-and-drop into applications folder
Just got a new iMac last week, my old ibook finally died. I'm trying to install firefox in the imac and i can't. It downloads fine, I can open up the .dmg file, but then I can't drag the icon into the applications folder. I can drag it, but nothing happens when I try to drop it. I've tried using the alias folder, the folder on the dock, just doing it in the finder window, nothing works! tried re-downloading, everything i can think of. Since it is a new machine, do i have something in preferences set wrong? Help!!!
Do you have "allow user to administer this computer" checked off in your account in System Preferences -> Accounts ?
Also, right click on your Applications folder, and hit "Get Info" Make sure that the group that owns it is "admin" and "admin" has read and write privileges. If it's admin, but it says "read only" click on the lock, put in your password, and flip up the group privs and change it to read and write.
If the group is NOT admin on the Get Info screen, you will need to launch /Applications/Terminal.app and issue this command:
chgrp admin /Applications -
I am trying to activate Firefox on my Ipad. I saved the download file. When I opened it and tried to drag the icon into my application file, I got a pop-up message saying that a newer version of Firefox existed and did I want to replace it. Should I replace my Firefox 5 or is there something else I can do?
I'm afraid I'll lose my browser.* Download a new copy of the Firefox program: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
* Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install.
* Install the new version that you have downloaded.

When moving a file using drag and drop, as I hover over the destination folder it no longer opens, so I can't drop the file into the folder. Why? I have a heirarchical embedded folder structure under \Documents. Usually, as I drag the file to be moved over the various folders, they will blink twice, then expand/open to reveal contents (in Finder). Now, when the file to be moved is held (hovering) over the destination folder, it will not blink or expand, so there's no place to drop the file. If I release the mouse button, the file image disappears, showing that it is "going back to the place it came from", a.k.a. was not moved. This just started happening. I noticed it after upgrading to Mavericks. Is this a bug or could anything else be causing this?
As of today, Apple Support discovered during a remote support session with me that the same thing happens on their own system. It is isolated to "Column View"; the Icon and List views in Finder behave correctly. Issue is being escalated to engineering, and Apple will call to report status in a couple days. In all likelihood, this is a bug that will need to be addressed in a future update.

Why "Drag the Firefox Icon into the Applications folder" always pops up?
i follow the steps shown to install firefox on mac. Firefox is working well except every time when i lauch it, "Drag the Firefox Icon into the Applications folder" always pops up? Can you help me solve the problem?
Thank you!If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
*Firefox 8.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
*Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded
