I can't edit the audio of my movies

I'm a noob at Adobe Premier so I don't really know much about the technical speak that is used with this program.
I am going through some learning CDs for this software and I decided to give a shot at putting together some of my own videos.
One thing I have noticed is that my clips don't seem to have an "audio" track on the workflow (I think it is called the workflow where you rearrange your movies and make edits and stuff).
Here is a picture to show you what I mean. The two videos towards the right came with my learning software and they have a space on the "Audio 1" but my videos do not. (they do have sound though)
I took my videos using the video feature on a typical digital camera and they are AVI format. Do AVI files not have an audio portion that I can edit in premier pro?
How can I get my videos so that they have an audio portion on the workflow as well? (that way I can do shots where I can have the audio of one video playing while the video portion of another clip is playing).
Thanks in advance.

1st, the red line over your timeline would seem to indicate a case where your project setting is wrong for your video
Please NOTE that the PPro CS6 screen may look a bit different (I use CS5)

  • Udio to my clip.  When I bring it over it highlights the entire clip as opposed to adding it above or below.  Then I can't edit the audio clip.  HELP!!

Trying to add audio to my clip.  When I bring it over it highlights the entire clip as opposed to adding it above or below.  Then I can't edit the audio clip.  HELP!!

Just discovered this nifty little bug myself today. Boy, Leopard is really bug city, I'm definitely regretting the upgrade. I was glad to find the 'show in mailbox' trick, although then once I went to re-send the message, it duplicated it for some reason and sent it twice, so now my business contact thinks I'm a moron because I sent him this super large attachment TWICE thanks to moronic Mail.app.
Another interesting thing though, is that after finding the email via 'show in mailbox' and opening it, it actually displayed the MP3 attachment as the old Tiger quicktime player (w/progress bar) as opposed to when I first composed the message and it would only display it as an icon. I thought they had just removed that feature for some reason, but nope! Another bug!

  • How can I edit the audio in a QT file without having to transcode it first?

I have some 320x256 QT files that feature some background noises that I want to edit out and dub over with some new audio. Is there an app that will let me do this while retaining the files at their native resolution?
The only method I've found so far is to import them into iMovie, which transcodes them to 720x576 DV files from which I can extract the audio, edit and re-export at 320x256, but I'd really like to avoid the transcoding step.

QuickTime Pro can "extract" the sound track. This will create a copy you can then "export" to a suitable sound editing format (.aiff).
Edit the .aiff file using your sound editing software and then open the file with QT Pro and export to the original format used in the source movie. Add it "scaled" back into your original source movie and "delete" the older sound track. Use "Save As" and your file will complete.

  • Can i play the audio for rented movies through the airport express

I'm watching a rented iTunes movie on my Mac and would like the audio to play through my Airport express to my stereo speakers. Can't figure it out.

iTunes won't play the audio through your airport express due to the video and audio being out of sync.

  • How can I fix the audio of my movies and tv shows on itunes?

So all of my movies and tv shows are choppy, have bad static, and the audio doesn't match the picture. How do I fix it???

The only thing is, I have read where it will only keep 100 entries at tops. I'm not sure as I have never let it get that high, however many business users have reported this.
OP, how much history are you talking about keeping? Also, there is no method to archive this in any fashion to be looked at or searched at a later date.

  • Can I rip the audio from a video so that's all i have?

I have a couple of comedy videos and i find it unecessary to have the video and the audio, since it would be just as great with only the audio. So my question is if anyone knows if i can rip only the audio froma quicktime movie? thanks in advance.

Try virtualdub found at virtualdub.org. I have never tried a quicktime movie. If it doesn't work, go to www.digital-digest.com. They will have the answer.

  • Found Audacity for my background noise. Can I edit my audio files in the FCPX event folder in Finder?

I think I found the solution to my background noise problem using Audacity.
But can I edit my audio files that are in FCPX Event folder in Finder? Or do I actually have to edit my project all over again to put in new audio (edited by Audacity)?

No, copying the whole Project and Event is just too much of a waste of time.
Do this, in the Browser, select the audio file you need to take to Audacity.  Export it as a Master File, and in the Settings section of the Share window, set Format to Audio Only.  Set Audio File Format to AIFF.  Set Open With to "Other" and select Audacity.  Then pick your Desktop as the location to save the file.
In Audacity, do whatever it is you want and save it.
Back in FCP X, import the new "fixed" file, be sure to check the box to copy it to your Event folder.
Finally, if necessary, do a Replace edit with the new version to the old one if it has already be edited into a Timeline.

  • My iMovie is skipping like crazy when I try to edit and then goes to a black screen and you can only hear the audio!?!? What's happening??

I use iMovie almost everyday for Youtube videos. I have nothing in my imovie except the 5 clips that I'm editing now. I have all my media on an external hard drive and delete everything after I'm done with ( I empty all trash cans). My iMovie is now skipping when I try to edit and then the clips just go to a black screen and I can only hear the audio, this has been going on for a week and I don't know what to do?!? Any help?

Try Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
If that doesn't help, try Resetting the System Management Controller

  • How can I edit imported audio track? After selecting and deleting region and joining remaining parts, it keeps playing the track with the deleted part! What am I doing wrong?

How can I edit imported audio track? After selecting and deleting region, and joining remaining parts, it keeps playing the track with the deleted region!
    What am I doing wrong?

After selecting and deleting region, and joining remaining parts, it keeps playing the track with the deleted region!
    What am I doing wrong?
How exactly are you doing this?
When I cut out a part of an audio region, then drag the remaining parts together, so they are touching, the track will skip the cut out section when playing the file.  Also, if I select the remaining parts of the region and use the command "Edit > join regions". This will create a new audio file with the cut out part deleted.
You should see this prompt, when you are joining the regions:

  • I am editing a clip but it won't show in the screen, I can only hear the audio. any suggestion?

I am editing a clip but it won't show in the screen, I can only hear the audio. any suggestion? The clip is visible in the timeline but when I play it I can only hear the audio and no images.

Hey, I'm having the exact same problem.
I just got my Macbook Pro and I tried to partition/install windows xp the first day I got it. After successfully partitioning my HD, the 50GB partition didn't show up while trying to install the windows platform.
To be a bit more specific, it doesn't even show up in my startup disk in the system preferences menu (if that's any help?)
So after about a week of abandoning my Macbook and going back to my PC I went to the Apple store and someone from the genius bar just told me to reformat the entire thing...so that's what I did and I'm still having the same problem.
    Any advice Lyssa?

  • How do you edit the audio files in the slideshow  of my idvd project?

I have created a project in idvd and I dragged and dropped in the music files from the audio tab that I wanted - I selected multiple songs (2) and I hear them play just fine. The problem is that I want one song to play for a certain section of the photos and then I want the other song to start at a particular point. Why am I not able to edit the music in the slideshow and how can I do that?

iMovie is a good way to do this if your project is film based. If your using photos (slideshow) in iDVD, I would be inclinded to use GarageBand to edit the audio portion of your project (It may be just me, but whenever I've attempted to create a slideshow in iMovie, the photos look "grainy" to me, not as clear).
If you know the time of when you want your songs to change, you can adjust the length (time) of each song in GarageBand as well as fade in/fade out transition of the two or more songs. After saving, you then can access the saved audio mix via the audio tab in iDVD. (I'm making an assumption that one might be familiar enough with GarageBand to do this

  • Can you edit whole audio as one file?

I have done the bulk of transitions and mixing in final cut and just want to use soundtrack to eliminate some hiss and tiny bit of clean up can i send the audio as a complete file so I dont have to do multitrack and risk messing my mixes and transitions etc?

I do my complicated audio in Logic Pro, so I don't really understand Soundtrack Pro.
That said, if you want to apply one effect to the whole sequence in FCP,
    you can nest the sequence:
    1. Edit > Select All
    2. Sequence > Nest (no need to mixdown audio if it's stereo)
    3. Option-click on the nested Audio to open it in the Viewer.
    4. Add your global effects.
    Sweet!
Nesting is described in the FCS2 manual on page III-416.
It's a really useful technique. You can go back and
tweak the original edit, and the nested sequence will update.
BTW, when mixing digital audio, most folks set it to peak
    around -12dB.
Note that if you have some clips that are too loud or soft,
it's best to adjust those clips' volumes, instead of squashing
the whole mix with a global limiter.
Finally, the best way to check if your mix levels are even
is to jump around to different locations of the timeline,
listening at a low level, making sure you can hear all the elements.
Sometimes the best way to even things out is to adjust the EQ
    instead of the gain.

  • Can you replace the audio of a clip?

I'm trying to replace the audio of a clip.  I know I can easily delete the audio once it's in a sequence, but I'd like to replace the audio entirely so that the new audio is always on the clip as it's viewed in the project bins. You can edit in Audition for the clip, but thre doesn't seem to be a way to save the changes.

    There are several way to do this;
    Replace with clip...

I can't see the Audio Waveforms in the timeline. No triangle button to click. Just switched from FCP. Help!

When I click on the wrench or right click to customize the box, these are the options I'm given.  I don't see waveform.  I've edited in Adobe Audition for years, and see the waveform panels in all the Premiere Pro tutorials, am I missing something?  (besides a brain?)
