If disk space is not the issue, booting in Safe Mode deletes system caches that may help.
A Safe Mode boot takes longer then a normal boot so be patient.

I just upgrade to 10.8.5 (from snow leopard on an '08 iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB memory) and I have a problem with Mail
While during migration there was no problem and it looks like all my massages was transferred (more than 17.000 mails) when I open Mail there is no "Message Viewer" window and if I try to open it from menu "Window" I have the message "Mail quit unexpectedly" (I have report it to Apple).
So I can not see my mails!!
Otherwise everything looks "OK" with Mail. I can see all my accounts in Preferences, I can see other windows like Activity, I can even see the red indicator with he new mails on the Mail icon on the Dock… But I can not quit Mail, only Force quit…

Can you change a PDF file to only allow one person have it open on a shared network?
At my office, we all work from the same network and are constantly sharing files. We need to add comments and edit PDF files. One thing I have noticed is that adobe will not tell you that someone else has the file open until you have made all your changes and are trying to save it. Is there anyway you can be notified when you open the file that someone else is in it or only allow one user to have it open at a time?
By the way... we are all using Adobe Acrobat X StandardNo, there isn't. The way you're using the file is not recommended. You
should use a review tracker to avoid getting in the way of one another. -
When trying to access a site I get the error message "Firefox cannot establish a connection at....."
Site is "come in". I've run all scans, two lots of malawre and windows security essentials, reset firefox, checked network settings, in fact everything suggested on here. Help !!!!
PS It's the same on all browsers.I've tried all of these things. And again just to confirm. When removing Firefox from the Firewall despite the setting on it only allowing sites that are listed, still goes through, what's that about?

Installed CS5, now I can't administer a site using CS4
I installed CS5 recently. My client still has CS4. She recently changed her ftp pass codes. I updated the connection with Contribute using CS5, but she can not access the site and gets an error message "This site is now being managed by a newer version of Contribute". I cleared the preferences in CS5 and am trying to re-establish the connection for her using CS4...but everytime I do I get half way through the set up process and get an error message saying that the site is already being managed by a newer version of Contribute (even though I have cleared the CS5 preferences in the Library and that site doesn't exist anymore on CS5 version).
How can I still use the older software for my client who doesn't have CS5? Thanks. Melissa1) If the site is adminitered by newer version of Contribute then you can't administer the site using lower version of Contribute.
2) In the Compatibility is chosen as Transition Mode then the users in lower version can connect, if the mode chosen is Compatibility then they can't connect.

There is a maximum number of pages that can be safely created, what exactly that is is not defined, but when you get into hundreds of pages with lots of graphics, that starts getting hairy.
It would be safer to break up your document into smaller parts and only assemble them at the end.

I have a problem regarding maximum number of database connections that can be handled .
Theoretically i am aware that the number of sessions we set in init ora settings tells me the maximum
connections that can be opened.but this number will be also be dependent on the capability of the OS to handle the sessions.
is there any way i can analyse the number of possible connections possible if I have the OS memory and CPU parameters with me

A specific answer can be easily determined by you by actually writing a very small apps that spawns them and counts them.
You might note that modern OSes limit the number of threads per app. In most or perhaps all unix variants you can change that limit. You can't increase that limit in java.
Running the maximum number is very unlikely to be good idea however. Requiring that would suggest that the design is broken. -
