I can't exit full screen mode and there are no navigation areas like I used to have.

I just loaded Foxfire 4.0. I tried out full screen mode and cannot get back to the original mode. Even more annoying is that there doesn't seem to be any way to open new tabs or show the items that I used to keep at the top of my start screen. It's annoying enough to have to learn a new version without having to start from scratch as it were. Why can't new versions let you keep some of the old familiar places from before??? I'm seriously considering trying to go back to my old version. HELP ME!!

You could go back to the old version but it is relatively easy to make firefox 4 look and behave more like firefox 3.6, although there could be disadvantages in doing that. see [[Installing a previous version of Firefox]]
Keyboard key '''F11 should toggle full screen on or off''' as before
Touching the top edge of the screen with the mouse pointer should also display toolbars.
The menubar and bookmarks toolbar do not display by default in firefox 4, if you are not using a Mac it will display the firefox button. Alt or f10 will temporarilly display the menubar toolbar, even if the firefox button is displayed, from the option
* '''View -> toolbars -> [x] menu bar [x]bookmarks toolbar'''
you may set the bars to display permenantly if you wish.
Another change is the''' tabs on top''' again settable from the view menu or the firefox button. see [[why are tabs on top]]

  • FM9: Exiting Full Screen Mode?

How can you exit full screen mode in FM9? the only way I could do it was by closing all of my files, quiting FM, and relaunching FM.
There seems to be no shortcut key associated with bringing the program out of full-screen mode. If you can see the menu bar, you can't select Standard Screen Mode.
BTW: There is no documentation of Full Screen in the FM 9 User's Guide.

Thanks for the tips. Right-clicking is a nice one, since it depends where you click and there is no intuitive guidance on that. I do not think that this can be viewed as purely a documentation issue. It is a design issue: if there is an option to change screen modes, it should be included in the View menu, just like it was done in Photoshop. That is the obvious location where you would go look for it. And even in Full Screen Mode, using the Alt key brings up the menus, so there is an easy escape without having to consult the help files or forums to found out hidden tricks. As technical authors, we should not accept the blame when it is shoved on our plates by user interface designers who obviously made a mistake here. Yes, it should also have been included in the documentation but that is not the only action that should be taken.
Another option of course is to take the feature out of FrameMaker altogether. Why would I want to enter Full Screen Mode in an editor, anyway? I know I did, as I was checking out features that I had not seen before. But what's the point of this feature for this program ?
I agree that it's not only a doc bug, but an UI design bug. Consider filing a report to help improve the next release.
If you're only using FM as a text editor, you're losing out on its visual layout abilities.
Full-screen viewing enlarges the useful work area. Users who are comfortable working with keystroke shortcuts may prefer both the increased space, and decreased clutter.
Some space-pinching practices that can benefit from more space include viewing a document's two-up page spreads, and tiling multiple documents. For example, using a narrowed TOC, index, or generated list of cross-references adjacent to a wider document page, to navigate through documents, "hyper-clicking" (Ctrl+Alt+Click) in the generated document and moving the insertion point to the linked destination, while not losing sight of the jumping-off-point.

I was using the newest version on OSX 10.7.5 and I was in full screen mode and viewing a photo and it was impossible to exit full screen. This happened at 11:03pm on Friday April 12, 2013. I deleted this from my apps and then deleted iphoto from my purchases in macbook app store the search it the app store and it says it has still been installed. What can I do to fix it?

Well deleting it from your machine was not the way to go.
Deleting it from your Purchases List was definitely not the way to go.
So, I'm not really sure how you're going to reinstall it.
But figure that out and we can try help. Contact App Store support. There's a link on the right hand side of the App Store Window. They should be able to get it back on your purchases list so you can reinstall it.

No no, if you read what I said, it would be that each individual display would be customizable to the user. The way you have it, it sounds like your second display will be dedicated to scrolling through fullscreen apps not allowing you to do it on the home screen. This is silly because with my concept, you could do that, by dragging apps to fullscreen in your second display, but if you want you could tell another display to scroll through fullscreen apps (independently) if you wanted. Each display will have it's own mission control with it's own set of desktops. I also can see how some people would still want them linked together, so this could just be a little check box made in mission control prefs to "link" or "unlink" desktops with link checked by default.
With your solution you're limited to your setup. but what if the person has three or four displays? Well then your solution would limit them to one dedicated display that scrolls through fullscreen apps where mine lets a person customize their desktops depending on their preference and setup.
further example: if you have safari, address book and mail in one display, you could still have ichat, PS and Illustrator in your second, and a text editor, FTP Client and iTunes in your third. Then you would mix and match these apps but it would promote the use of mulitple displays as well as benefit people with three or more, which thunderbolt, Cinema Display and Pro computers support.

  • Can anyone tell me how to exit full-screen mode in mail?

Can anyone please tell me how to exit full-screen mode in mail?

    Thanks, QuickTimeKirk.
It was getting really frustrating being locked into that big screen!

  • How to exit full screen mode mail message

Inexplicably, when i open messages in Mail, they appear in something like full screen mode.   The message viewer window is not in full screen mode, but if i open any message, the message takes up the whole screen. I can drag the message in order to see other things on the desktop, but i can't adjust the size of the window to the size i want, and see no way of exiting full screen mode. I lookd in Help, but it only shows how to enter Full Screen, not how to exit it.
In the View menu, there is an option to enter full screen.  When i have the full screen sized message open on top, the enter full screen option in the View menu is greyed out.  If i have the normal sized window for the message viewer window on top, the enter full screen is not grayed out and could be selected.  I do not select it since there appears to be no 'exit full screen' option that i can see and i don't want to multiply this problem.
I know this might be a silly question, but if they have an enter full screen option, why wouldn't they also have an exit full screen option?
Or is there an exit full screen option which exists somewhere that i have not been able to find?  I've searched Apple Discussions and Google but so far have not found a way to un-full screen my Mail messages.  This started this morning.
    Can anyone help?
I do not know how it got into full screen mode.  It was not something i did deliberately or knowingly.
i have tried quitting and restarting Mail but the full screen message mode returns.
How can i get my mail messages out of this very annoying and awkward screen hogging mode?
I have only been using Mail since last November when i got a new MBP with Mountain Lion, which meant that for the first time since 1995, i could not use the simple straightforward faultless Eudroa anymore.  So i have had my struggles with Mail.  Trying to get through it.  This is the most recent of various similar issues, inexplicable problems without apparent solutions.  Sort of Microsoft-like.
I will be really grateful for any help.. thanks

  • Unable to exit full screen mode from any app

    Hi,
I just upgraded to Mountain Lion today and I noticed something wrong. In Lion I used to be able to exit full screen mode from any app by pressing esc or clicking the exit full screen mode button on the top right corner of the screen. Now neither of those seem to work, in fact the menu bar doesn't even come up when I get the cursor to the top of the screen. Tried this on many apps, some system apps, always the same. The only way I found that works is pressing fn + ctrl + F2 (or ctrl + F2 depending on the function keys setting).
I checked the console and found this message appears whenever I go into full screen
WindowServer[79]: CGXRegisterWindowWithSystemStatusBar: window 10 already registered
    Anyone having the same issue?
    Any solutions found?
    MacBook Pro 5,1
Processor  2,8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8 (12A269)

    Thanks for replying so fast.
I tried a couple more times and now the esc key method seems to be working, maybe it the cursor focus had something to do with it not working earlier.
But I still can't get the menu bar to drop down when I get to the top of the screen.
Did a PRAM reset, but no cigar.
Do you mean reinstalling over the current installation or installing fresh and recovering from a time machine backup?
In any case I think I'll wait a little bit more before I do any of that, it really bothers me to have to reinstall the whole system to fix something as insignificant as this. It's still a little annoying though.

  • Backup causes DVD player to exit full screen mode

    Hi,
I have recently bought time capsule. Whenever a backup is finished while watching a DVD, DVD Player will exit the full screen mode. There is no error message or anything and it happens when there was no problem with time machine. Since a backup is running every hour this will interrupt every movie. This did not happen when I was using an USB hard disk before. So it may also have something to do with time capsule? (sorry for posting it here).

I don't know if they have forum or not but I couldn't find official forum by just searching around. I found this info and you may want to check your environment:

You may want to check FireFox and Chrome how they work.

  • "Press esc to exit full screen mode" stays on screen, wont disappear, I have to refresh page many times

    Windows 7
    using firefox
    adobe flash player 16.0.0.305
I have tried many things and with this new computer build I did not want to try any of the 3rd party fixes for this issue. I see a ton of posts regarding this issue some referring to the problem as the creator of the game or video, some referring to Why is this still an issue why hasn't this been fixed its been years.....
So I am starting a new discussion as I cant find any relevant in time fixes for my issue all I see is over two years old with no real fixes for the issue. So I hope I am just missing it.
Anyways here is the issue I would love to just disable it make it go away entirely. I know I need to press esc to exit full screen mode. Most of the time it does disappear and that would be fine too but while I am watching hulu videos in my queue and escaping between full screen mode and normal mode to add next show to queue and then going to next show in queue sometimes I have to refresh the page to make the bubble disappear.
Is there anything I can do? and I quote many users before me in stating "Why is this stilll an issue?"

Hmmm lets see well in reply to your answer and comments. I only use firefox. I wrote an app about 6 months which without any user intervention could really mess up chrome. I could download passwords from chrome unencrypted so I do not use chrome I avoid it like the plaugue. Internet Explorer kind of the same issue but in reverse seems to be pretty secure but huge and klunky. So I only use firefox. I just refreshed it which fixed an issue I was having with a sign on issue with swagbucks ext add on not remembering who I am and so on. I will see if this has any effect.
To continue on this issue though if you know hulu at all. If I pick the next show I want to watch manually, which would technically load a new web page as a "refresh" It always disappears, However if I use the queue option or auto watch mode I really don't know how to properly discribe this. If I just let it finish a show and it automatically picks the next show. Then I assume that flash player programming is causing the web page change and so somehow yes the webpage changes but the "refresh" does not occur or inother words the flash player keeps running doesn't get refreshed and over time several things occure. If i watch about 5 shows in this automated matter flash starts to really eat up my memory and then the esc message starts to not disappear.
Also randomly I can not tell which ads cause this of course, I would love to be able to give you or hulu more info but There is an add that gets ready to play during a show. This add causes my antivirus to throw a fit and blocks it, then flash player crashes I would assume because of the failure to load the add and play it.
I understand your description of why it is the way it is and that makes since. But for us wire cutters or cable cancelers, I watch tv through online use and for whatever reason flash is the only option. and having to get off my couch and go over to my computer to refresh the webpage and or reload cause of crashes is getting old.

  • Exiting Full Screen Mode

Can someone offer a legitimate reason why someone cannot figure out how to place a "clearly visible" ICON that you can click to exit full screen mode.
It wouldn't even have to that friggin big, would it.
Where would it be located at. How about right near the point where you clicked to enter full screen mode.
I'd rather get frustrated hunting for it.
And restarting Firefox doesn't friggin help, does it.
Yeh, I found it, hence the post.

Note that the Full Screen button that can be found in the toolbar palette also acts as a toggle.
You will have to accept that you need to have a toolbar visible if you want to use a button to toggle full screen mode or use the F11 key.
*Firefox menu button > Options > Toolbar Layout
    *View > Toolbars > Customize

In Lion, Safari pages hang in full screen mode.  If you exit full screen mode, the next page you intended to view appears.
This happens nearly every time I use Safari.  I will be clicking on links, when it appears to hang.  By exiting full screen mode, upon minimizing the next page I was intending to view appears.  This does not happen on all websites, but many that I visit.

Here's a stupid question, but I'm sure I'm not the only one - how exactly DO you minimize the safari fullscreen mode??  I keep reading about orange or yellow tabs which don't exist, at least on my 27 iMac. Control m doesn't work either. I wish Apple would have a basic 3 or 4 page instruction manual on this. Unless there are major bugs still.  By the way, this is only one of many problems I'm having with Safari.  Occasionally the tool bar just dissappears. And, don't get me started about how the dock in Lion simply stopped accepting some icons, including Firefox. None of these problems happened when I first installed Lion. Each upgrade seems to have more bugs, not less.

  • NB100 touchpad scroll bar stops working after exit full screen mode youtube

I have few Toshiba laptops, satellite, and now netbook100.
All of them share one problem, touchpad scroll bar:
It will stop working after exit full screen mode in youtube.
Here is how to reproduce the incident:
    1. using any mainstream browser, start playing a youtube video, click full screen button at the bottom right corner of the video.
    2. click on the [cross] to exit the full screen mode. (next to full screen button.)
    3. check if you scroll bar still functioning.
    4. a reboot will restore the function.
Currently, Im on vista, I believe in XP you will have the same problem.
Searching in google (touchpad scroll bar stops full screen youtube) will return more people share the same question but no answer.
Environments: win xp all, win vista all.
Windows all most updated driver, touch pad driver up to date.
This is not a major tech problem but for a netbook, this is very annoying.
If anyone have this problem or answers, please share it here.
    Thank you in advance.
    regards.

I had the exact same problem on my laptop and after a lot of searching, I finally found the simplest solution that really works for me so here goes:
Once you exit the full screen video and the scroll pad has stopped working, click once anywhere on the youtube page(just to unfocus from the video) and press the spacebar button on your keyboard twice.
Et voila, your scroll pad should be working again. Beats the hassle of having to log off everytime.
    Hope this helps

  • Full Screen mode and two monitors

I consider this an oddity in Lion. I have two monitors. If I have Mail open in the left one and let's say Address book on the right one, and I put Mail into full screen mode, the other monitor goes gray. So . . . no way to have one monitor in full screen mode and still use the second monitor!

This is Apple's warped sense of humor about how full screen should work.  Aparrently the designer only uses tablets so has no clue how the real world works.
This is totally hated by most  power users but,  alas,  Apple aren't doing anything about fixing this patently broken design,  let alone admitting that they could have made a mistake.
Your options are to either put up with it or back out to Snow Leopard.

  • Lightroom bugs: full screen mode and import

I'm considering buying Lightroom, it's quite impressive for a v1.0. But there are some troubling bugs I've run into on my 2nd or 3rd day of use.
    Platform: Vista Ultimate, Lightroom 1.0, P4 2.8ghz, 1.5 GB mem + 2 GB ReadyBoost.
    - Full screen mode is broken? I switched into full screen mode, and then back into normal mode. But now when I minimize the app and alt tab or click back into it, it's back in full screen mode. So I put it back into normal mode, but it goes back to full screen the next time I return to it. Very annoying. It's not just when I minimize it. If I change window focus *at all*, it sets itself to full screen mode.
    - Import from camera doesn't work. When I attached my Canon 20d and selected Import from 20d, it said "Could not find files" or something. I had to import through Canon EOS Viewer.
Both of these features are a pretty basic part of workflow, so I'm surprised they're broken.

There are know issues with Vista which isn't supported yet. Also import has some issues to be resolved.
The read me has some of this noted.
