I can't find my 22GB SSD partition on my Hybrid disk

Hi,
I have a S400u with a Hybrid disk in it. 500gb / 22GB SSD
After a virus (see my other post, lot of probleme to find my disk in UEFI ), I Diskpart > clean to install a clean win8 on my computer.
Now i can't find my SSD partition except in the boot manager and in the BIOS. I have intel RST drivers installed.
Anyone has a solution for me?

hi there,
Looking at the screenshot, we can conclude that the SSD is not getting detected properly (on diskpart and on disk management). Given that you were able to detect both SSD and HDD by installing the RAID drivers, both drives should show up under Disk Management and on diskpart.
It's possible that the SSD is failing but you need to run a diagnostic test to verify its health. One sure way to test it is to take out the SSD out of the machine and put in an enclosure (like this one) and test it inside Windows
Alternatively, you can try the Expresscache software for data caching (you will need to install Win8 in AHCI mode - this will show both HDD/SSD under Disk Management and you can use HD Tune to run diagnostics on the drive).

  • Macbook Pro can't find my Mac OS partition

    Hello,
My Macbook Pro recently received a software update. When I restarted it, it could not boot from my Mac OS partition. I unmounted and remounted the OS section...same issue.
When I tried to reinstall Mac OS to the partition, it could find the Mac OS partition, but the installation would not complete due to some sort of error. I repaired the partition, and got a message that everything looked OK, but trying to reinstall the OS again resulted in another failed message.
It will still not find the Mac OS partition as a bootable drive, but my Windows partition is fine.. I'm so confused as to what the issue is here, so hopefully someone can help me.
    Thank you!

Hold the option key down while booting, see if OS X appears and select it to boot from, then reset the StartupDisk in System Preferences again.
If that doesn't work, I suspect a hosed GUID partiton table, backup what you can out of Windows to a external drive and disconnect.

  • Bios can't find my new SSD

I have used http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/systemscanner and chose the SSD which should be useable in my laptop
    Crucial MX100 SSD 512GB  2.5" 7mm.
I have used Acronis and backed up my old system to an 3.5 500 GB which I put in an Icybox with esata.
(An alternative method could be to use usb2 and clone the old harddrive to SSD but with acronis and usb2 this would take 5-6 hours and therefore I haven't tried this.)
Starting up Acronis from cd I found both the SSD and the Esata and restored the backup from the old harddrive (from the esata) to the SSD.  It seemed to work well, but when I tried to start without the startup cd I got the message "insert a boot disk".
The I looked in the bios and could not find any harddrive (SSD).  Now I got out of ideas and hope for help here.
My bios heading is: InsydeH20 Setup Utility

Must I have a newer bios version?
How can I upgrade the bios version?  As I already have only the SSD in the laptop, must I put in the old harddrive before I can upgrade bios or is  it possible to du this from a usb stick without harddrive and windows running?

    Hi,
My problem seems to be that the SSD is not discovered by the bios.  I have tried cloning and restore with acronis 2014 with both seems to work and in acronis because I can see both the SSD and the original HDD (via esata) and that the SSD has got the complete data.
I can see that my original bios in F.14 from 10.09.2010 (although the laptop was bought a year later).  And now I have went into http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=no&lc=no&dlc=no&docname=c00042629
updateing bios procedure.  Before completing the update/flash I have one question.  It says in pkt.2.2. that I should write down the prosessor, but can't find any use of that information later.  I suggest it could be very bad to use a bios for intel on a amd prosessor.  I have an amd prosessor.  Please tell me that I'm not wrong.
I have followed every step in the mentioned dokument and it could of course be unessesary to get the prosessor tipe when product No is known???
You mention disable secure boot or enabling legacy support temporarily?   In System configuration (Bios) I have / had USB
Legacy Enabled. Is this the point?  I can't se where secure boot can be changed.
I also very rare that I now with my old HDD back in the laptop can't se the HDD in bios.  I enclose 2 pics of the bios.

  • How can I find where this came from? - start up disk almost full

Hi, my mac began saying this to me today "Start up disk almost full"
So I began deleting files. I deleted a lot via DiskWave.
But now Diskwave says I have enough space but my mac sure doesn't.
What do I do? What's all that 'other' stuff and where can I find it?
    Thanks in advance!

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
              iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
    sudo /Applications/GrandPerspective.app/Contents/MacOS/GrandPerspective
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Can you create a boot Camp partition on a Fusion Disk?

Can I install a BootCamp partition on a fusion disc?
Can I install a BootCamp partition (Wndows 7) on a 1 TB on which OSX mac Yosemite or Mavericks has been installed first? I have a 2012 MacBook Pro, that already has a 400 GB Boot Camp partition, but I am considering replacing it with a fusion disc or an SSD since I shall have to install a windows compatible medical dictation application that could use a speedier disc. Will Mac OS and Windows interfere with each other on the SSDpart of a large fusion disc ( 1 TB) if I switch back and forth from rebooting on Mac OS , then on Windows and vice-versa? Does the SSD part of the fusion disc get confused, and will the fusion disc tolerate the installation pf a Boot Camp partition in the first place, or just give a stretch of plain 5400 RPM disc without the SSD part ?Can I

    1. On single-disk Macs, you can use an SSHD (as a single physical disk), but not an SSD/HDD. There is a no single physical unit which is a Fusion drive. A Fusion drive consists of a physical SSD and a physical HDD. MBPs on which the Optibay has an SSD/HDD and main bay with SSD/HDD will support a Fusion (aka CoreStorage volume). Yosemite supports a Fusion drive, which has an internal SSD and and external HDD (the reverse makes no sense, but is possible).
    2. On newer Macs, with 1TB PCIe flash, you have an SSD as your whole drive.
    3. The two environments, OS X and Windows are self-contained,  on separate partitions. The underlying hardware is common.
    4. On a Mini, which supports two drives, I have a 256g SSD/1TB HDD, in a DIY Fusion drive, with Windows on the SSD part. Bootcamp Assistant does not support this, but third-party tools can be used. The other option is to install OS X and Windows on a SSD, and later add an HDD and include into a CS volume. This is what I would recommend for you.
    5. The 13-in 2012 MBP will allow you use a USB installer, without the need for an Optical drive, so it is possible to replace the Optibay with an HDD, create a Fusion drive. If BCA is used, it will put Windows on the HDD on this specific machine if the Fusion drive is created first.

  • 10.4.6 - can't boot from OS 9 partition or start up disk anymore ??

I have an OS 9.2.2 partititon as well as my 10.4.6 partititon on my main HD, plus a seperate HD which has 2 partitions on it. I have a Digital Audio G4 which has a Powerlogix 1.4Gb 7457 cpu in it.
I use my Mac for music. I want to boot up in from the 9.2.2 partition to run Nortons to defrag my other HD which I use to save all my audio files on. My Nortons will not run in Classic mode.
    I haven't done this for a while, since 10.4.4 I think.
So no matter what I try, I can't boot up from my OS 9.2.2 partition via Start Up disc OR from my Nortons OS 9 start up CD. I just get a grey screen after the start up chime. Start Up Disc in 10.4.6 recognizes the OS 9.2.2 partition...
I really find it difficult to accept that 10.4.6 should stop me from being able to boot up from the Nortons disc but that is what it is starting to look like to me.
I can still use Classic mode in 10.4.6 and run OS9 applications in Classic.
Is it a 10.4.6 issue and would I solve it by downgrading to say 10.4.4 ??

    Hi Murray;
I disagree with your comment; "I appreciate
Nortons is "ancient" but that's not really the
    issue.".
I think it could very well be the issue. > Allan
    src="http://homepage.mac.com/eckertallanp/2313.gif"
    alt="tiger" align="right">
Thanks Allan. With all due respect I can't understand at all how Nortons could be the issue, at least so far as it relates to the bootable CD I have with 9.2.2 on it.
This morning I tried booting from the System disc that came with my G4 when I purchased it. It has a 9.1 System folder on it.
The start up disc preference in 10.4.6 recognized th 9.1 disc as an option but, just like trying to start from my 9.2.2 partition and the Bootable disc with 9.2.2 (and Nortons 6.0) on it, I could not get past the grey screen.
I was able to boot from the Apple Hardware Diagnostic disc or whatever it is called and the test results said that all was well.
I am at the office now (heaven forbid using Windows) but when I get home tonight I am actually going to try zapping the PRAM because I am staring to think it may be that.
Funny, zapping the PRAM used to be a standard tool in my OS7/8/9 days...kind of forgot it as an OSX tool but I have a funny feeling that might actually be the problem.
    cheers

  • Can't Boot neither from Recovery partition or CD recovery disks

Hello everybody, I already purchased Laptopo with the following specifications:
    - HP Pavilion DV6-6160 SE Entertainment Notebook PC
    - Operating System is windows 7 64-bit
    - Error message : an error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data (File: \Boot\BCD & Status: 0xC0000225)
    - After I purchased it I created the recovery CDs, then partition the C drive into two partitions by using EaseUse partition manager, the D partition which is for recovery still as it. after 3 weeks from that the above mentioned error occured while I were retarting the windows. Then I insert the the recovery CD and change the rebooting sequenc to be CD-room first then Hard disk but the error still exist with the same message, also I tried to count on the recovery drive which on the hard disk as I power up the device and press the F11 to boot from the recovery drive also nothing happened and the error message still exist.
I don't know how I can solve this problem the device still under warranty, Have recovery CDs, Recovery drive (D) is still exist but nothing can solve this problem
Finally I would like to inform you that I can access the windows 7 from safe mode, and I uninstalled all programs I have installed on it and try to restor factory setting but the device reboot with the same error
    Awaiting for your kind support
    Regards

Try booting into Safe Mode and use Disk Management to delete the extra partition you created.Reboot at least once before trying  F11 again to see if it will work.
If no joy, you might also enter BIOS by tapping away at the F10 key immediately after powering on.Reset BIOS to Default settings then F10 to Save & Exit.

  • Can't find new drive when looking for start up disk

I upgraded to a new SATA HD on my G5. The process that I took was to copy the replaced drive via Super Duper. I moved the copy to my internal back up drive and then swapped out the old drive for a new drive. When I booted up, I did so from the back up drive and had no issues. I then partitioned the new drive and moved the files from the back up drive to the new drive. I then went into prefs to change the start up disk to the new drive - however, it is not showing up. The drive does show up in system profiler and I can navigate through it. However, nothing it is not picked up in start up??? Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Turner100-
If you did not clone the drive onto the new one, then you must install OSX on that drive in order to have it boot the Mac.

  • DOWNLOADED THE LATES ITUNES BUT NOW I CAN NOT FIND THE BACKUP  OPTION IN THE LIBRARY. BACK UP TO DVD, SO HOW IS THE BEST WAY TO HANDLE THIS?

I DOWNLOADED THE LATEST UPDATE TO ITUNES AND NOW CAN NOT FIND HOW TO BACKUP MY LIBRARY

The backup to disk option was removed as of iTunes 10.4. If you want to back up your tracks to a CD, you can as a workaround put the tracks in a playlist and then use the Burn Playlist to Disk command and select a data disk as the format. If you want to back up your tracks to a DVD now, you'll need to use other software. Unless your library is pretty small, though, it's probably a lot more effective to just copy the entire iTunes folder to an external hard drive or USB flash drive.

  • How can i run Lion, SL and Bootcamp on the same disk?

    Hi everyone,
I have an i7 Imac with Lion preinstalled so first of all i installed windows with bootcamp
and then for many reason i had to make a new partition with Snow Leopard using target disk mode from a mbp.
Now the problem is that i can't see anymore my bootcamp partition at the startup disk (when i press alt after the bong).
Even if i try to change startup disk from system preferences it says that the disk is not bootable.
I tryed to make the bootcamp partition active using rdisk fromt he terminal with no succes :/
I hope you guys can help me
    Thank you

if you have two hard drives the easiest might be to install panther on the second hard drive. this way you don't have top partition anything. make sure the drive is properly formatted it should be formatted mac os extended journaled with APM partition scheme. then just boot from the Panther install disk and install panther on the second drive. note that this will only work if your mac originally came with panther. did it?
to switch between installs you can change the startup disk in system preferences->startup disk. then reboot. alternatively, reboot normally and hold option at the chime. this will boot you into startup disk manager where you can choose which drive to boot from.

    Hi LamboMong,
    just try this:
    http://refit.sourceforge.net
install, reboot twice and choose the Windows-Partition on next startup.
(The apple-bootloader doesn't display all bootable harddisks.
With rEFIt you can boot from all partitions/harddisks on your computer.)
I hope that will solve your problem.

I have a MacBook Pro with a 512gb SSD drive and I'm trying to use Bootcamp to install windows 8 off a flash drive to half of the SSD partition. When I get to the windows installation screen after reboot, it tells me I can't install to that partition that Bootcamp created and that my hardware might not support booting aff that partition. I tried deleting it and reformatting it but that didn't work.
Does anyone know a workaround for this?

How did you create the Bootcamp partition and how did you delete it in your attempts to install Windows?

The 100GB that I intended to create my partition on are lost and I can't find them anywhere. The option to merge two partitions doesn't even appear and I don't tend to restore my device.
    Greetings

I'm guessing you mean Backup and not Restore so I guess you'll start backing up your files now, eh?
From what i've read, unfortunetely, if you bugger your partition then about the only thing you can do is reinstall the Mac OS again and start over. So now is a good time to buy a cheap external drive and start backing up for things like this.
If you down load the Boot Camp Installation Guide and look at page #12 I believe, how to delete the Windows partition or something similar, it will walk you through it step by step or if you can watch one of the video's on YouTube on how to Restore the partitions back to one for further information.
    Good luck..........
