I can't find my time capsule or primary network. How can I recover it and connect to it again?

I can't find my time capsule or primary network (only have access to my guest network)..it's simply not showing in Airport Extreme... I don't want to reset time capsule because I already have important data there.

You must reset the TC to factory and start over. The TC simply remembers too much from the previous setup to work in the new one.
If your new router is going to take the router role, then the TC will have to be bridged and you will lose your Guest wireless.. the way around this is to use the Verizon router as your guest wireless and the TC as your main wireless.
The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
Factory reset Gen 5
Hold in reset for about 5sec until the status light flashes quickly.
If your AirPort Time Capsule still doesn’t respond, do a similar reset to the Gen1-4.
Unplug your AirPort Time Capsule .. hold in reset and power the TC back on.. without releasing the reset.. wait until status led flashes rapidly.

I installed a new (and supposedly better & stronger) router from my ISP provider (Verizon) and now I can't find my Time Capsule or "Guest" network.
My Mac is not backing up because it can't find my Time Capsule network & my "Guest" network has also disappeared.

  • Moved my iTunes library to my new 2TB time capsule, now iTunes can't find the Time Capsule.

Had my iTunes library on my older 1TB Time Capsule. Just bought a 2TB Time Capsule. Moved all the music from the old to the new. But, iTunes tells me now it can't find the server. I've checked the location of the library on the iTunes preferences, to point iTunes to my server. I keep getting an error message that iTunes can't find my server. I've already added the folder on the server to my login preferences, like it was with the older Time Capsule.
I did everything exactly as before but now iTunes can't find my Time Capsule.
Should I have just pointed the login to the server and not the exact folder? I've been working on the solution for an hour now.. Please, can someone here help me?

  • HT1218 Macbook Air can't find my Time Capsule!?!

Bought a new macbook air, it can't find my time capsule for some reason utilizing airport utility.  It was originally set up with another macbook almost three years ago.  Anyone know why this is happening?  I want to set it up to back up my files (macbook air) as well as take advantage of the extra storage/hard drive space for photos and music, etc...

Nevermind, I figured it out myself.  I had a WiFi network and a guest WiFi network.  The timecapsule was on one and my mac on the other.  Once I adjusted them to be the same it fixed the problem.  Thanks for all your help...Not!

  • Mac can't find my time capsule

Macbook can't find my time capsule.  Has been working fine for a few years but now it isn't.  I can connect to the internet but it won't do backups and can't print to printer wirelessly (hooked up through time capsule).  Did a hard reset on the TC.  Light is green but still no luck.  Any suggestions that might keep me from having to go to the Apple store?

When I activate Time Machine and have it do a backup it'll get sSotuck on "preparing backup" with the little clock icon spinning backwards.... and never start the backup.
That could be an issue with the computer hard disk corruption.
    Or corruption in the backup.
Did you turn off wireless whilst this was happening??
That is important to stop double connection.
Do A4 full reset of TM .. and A5 verify of the source and backup disk.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
    Perhaps the other way around.
    The model number is A1302.
So, I'm kinda stumped at this point.
You do know your TC is old.. well beyond the normal useby date..
The power supply may well be on the way out.. this can cause multiple issues as they go flakey just before dying completely.
I recommend you get a USB drive and do a full TM backup to that. If that works fine, and you have nothing in the old backups you want.. (there should not be as TM is not an archival storage system). Wipe the TC disk and start over. You can also archive the existing backup to a USB drive if you want before deletion.
TC is waving the red flag to you.. be thankful you got a warning and take steps.

  • I have used Airport Time Capsule with my iMac for several years. I recently purchased a MacBook Air and when it tried to backup to Time Capsule it couldn't because Time Capsule is full. How can I now use the 3TB Airport Time Capsule to back up both?

I have used Airport Time Capsule with my iMac for a couple years. I recently purchased a MacBook Air and when it tried to backup to Time Capsule it couldn't because Time Capsule is full. How can I now use the 3TB Airport Time Capsule to back up both the iMac and MacBook Air? I don't mind losing earlier backups. I have excluded some items from backing up, but since the Airport Time Capsule is full, I can't even begin to back up the MacBook Air.

    On your Mac.......
Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click on the Disks tab at the top of the window
    Click Erase Disk
On the next window that appears, select the Quick Erase option, then click Erase
The operation will only take a few minutes.
Now you are ready to start new backups of both Macs.  Back up one Mac first, then back up the other.  Do not try to back up both Macs as the same time.

  • My time capsule is full.  How can I delete older info?

My time capsule is full.  How can I delete older info?

You can enter the Time Machine restore interface and find files that can be removed from the backup disk itself to conserve space. To do this, select the file(s) and from the Action pop-up menu (gear icon) in the Time Machine Finder window choose "Delete All Backups of...". Be sure to only delete files you are sure you won't need or want to restore later.

Best way for the first set up is to connect the Express via LAN cable to a computer.
Then enter the setup of the express and choose "Join a existing network"
After the setup is done, remove cable and you will see the Express in the Airport Utility

  • AirPort Utility can't find my Time Capsule

Used to use the TC as both router and for Time Machine, and everything worked fine. Recently switched to a different router, but I'd still like to use TC for Time Machine. But after I told the Mac to use the new router (which is running a different network name), it does not 'see' the TC.
When I run System Preferences > Time Machine > Select Backup Disk > Set Up Time Capsule, the AirPort Utility scans for a short while and comes up with the error, "Airport utility was unable to find any AirPort wireless devices."
None of the support documents I've found online seem at all helpful, so I suppose I'm stuck. What should I try next?

    Thanks for the info.
Hold in the reset button on the Time Capsule (TC) until you see the amber light begin to flash more quickly and keep holding another 4-5 seconds when you see this occur, then release the reset button. The TC will restart in 25-30 seconds and the amber light will be flashing slowly.
+This reset will not affect any of your current backups+
Connect an ethernet cable from one of the available LAN <-> ports on your new router to the WAN (circle of dots icon) port on the TC
Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup. You may need to "switch" networks for this to occur so you can configure the TC.
Click the Base Station tab located below the row of icons to assign a name to your TC (you can use the same name you had before) and a device password (use the same password as before if you wish). Adjust Time Zone settings as well
    Click the Wireless tab
    Wireless Mode = "Off"
    Click the Internet icon
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Click Update to save your settings and the TC will restart and you should have a green light in 25-30 seconds.
Now, power down all devices on your entire network, order is not important.
Wait a moment, then start your modem/router first and let it run a moment.
Then start the Time Capsule the same way
Start all devices the same way until everything is powered back up
You'll need to reset Time Machine to get backups going again
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Time Machine
    Click Select Disk
Click your Time Capsule to highlight it
    Click Use for Backups
You will be able to backup using the wireless network or connect to the Time Capsule from your Mac using an ethernet cable.
You should be good to go.

  • New non-apple modem/router can't find old Time Capsule

I've been using a Time Capsule for both backup and wifi for years. But now I have a brand new modem/router (non-apple). I wanted to turn off the wifi on the Time Capsule and just use it for backup. I found instructions on how to do that and did it, but when I went to update to the new settings there was an error and now my system cannot find the Time Capsule, even though it is plugged in, connected and showing a steady green light. The TC is connected to the modem via ethernet and did show up long enough for me to change the settings so I'm confident I have the right physical setup. I've tried restarting both my computer and the TC, but Airport Utility still can't detect a device. What do I do now?
    Thanks!

Full factory reset on the TC..
Then plug into it directly with ethernet and do the configuration.. bridge mode.. off wireless if you want.. although there is nothing wrong with still running the wireless and the 5ghz is much faster than using wifi usually on a Mac at least from close range. Update and plug the TC back into the modem.. this is usually necessary whenever you move things around.
    The Factory Reset.
    Power down the TC.
Hold in reset. and keep holding it in. Be Gentle! It is a tiny surface mount switch with a plastic lever.. Attempting to push it out the other side of the TC will not make the switch turn on better.
(I fix TC and have several reset levers bent over and jammed or broken off).
Power on the TC.. remember with the reset held in.. this needs three arms.. a friend or power switch you can get to with your feet..
Keep holding in reset for about 10sec until the front LED flashes rapidly.
Release reset and wait .. the boot will be slow as it deletes previous setting.. only from router side and pulls out the factory defaults. No files are deleted on the hard disk.. but the name of the TC may change.

  • I've just changed my modem, and I can't find my time capsule

I've just changed my bigpond modem, and have joined all my other hardware to the new modem (Apple TV, iphones, iMac etc), but now my time machine can't locate my time capsule which was used as a back up.  it just doesn't appear in Airport Utilities.  Have rebooted everything, and the internet connection is fine, but that **** amber light won't stop blinking.

I'll guess that "bigpond" unit is either a router or a combination modem and router.  You can probably get AirPort Utility to "see" the Time Capsule if you connect your Mac to it with an Ethernet cable.  Then you can see why the Time Capsule isn't happy.  If the two devices are too far apart to make a cable feasible, then do a "factory default reset" of the Time Capsule and reconfigure it.

  • New MacBook Pro Retina can't find new Time Capsule.

I have a new MacBook Pro Retina, for which I am trying to set up a new Time Capsule.  The Time Capsule is attached by Ethernet cable to my modem, and I have opened Airport Utility.  The Time Capsule is continuously blinking amber, and Airport Utility says "No configured Airport base stations have been found." Has anyone else had this problem?

Thank you for your prompt reply.  Yes, I am running OS 10.8.2.

  • Time Machine/AirPort can't find my Time Capsule

I have a Time Capsule; I have had it for a year or so working fine with Time Machine backing up onto it. Abruptly it stopped working: the light flashing amber slowly, and Time Machine saying "could not complete backup". I tried disconnecting the Capsule from the power supply and turning off and restarting Time Machine. At this point Time Machine and AirPort Utility stopped being able to "find" the Capsule. I tried soft- and hard-resetting it; after a hard-rest it would show up in AirPort Utility again but when I went through the setup and it tried to restart the Capsule it lost the connection again. After another hard-rest, Time Machine could find it as a nameless Capsule but when I try to back up to it Time Machine asks for a password and the one I'd previously set up no longer works. I've tried several times now. Connecting the Capsule via Ethernet cable or wirelessly makes no difference. Please, can anybody help? ...Thanks.

What role and how does it connect to your broadband??
If you did a hard reset you cannot use it until you complete the setup.. and the previous password will be wiped.. so you cannot use it anyway.
Isolate the TC completely from the network.. plug in ethernet LAN port to a single computer.. which is also totally isolated from the network. Press the reset and start again..
Are you using Snow Leopard as per your list of products or have you updated recently to ML.. this is a common issue after an update.
