I can't find startup disk in Mac OS X Lion window

While performing the following instructions, I coudn't get through step 4 since there is no startup disk appearing in the pane ??
OS X Mavericks: Reinstall OS X
Use the built-in recovery disk to reinstall OS X while keeping your files and user settings intact.
Important: You must be connected to the Internet to reinstall OS X.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Once your Mac restarts (and the gray screen appears), hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys.
If you’re not connected to the Internet, choose a network from the Wi-Fi menu (in the top-right corner of the screen).
Select Reinstall OS X, then click Continue.
Follow the onscreen instructions. In the pane where you select a disk, select your current OS X disk (in most cases, it’s the only one available).

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011)...
Since your MBP came with Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.x) and you're referring to the Mac OS Lion window in Recovery Mode, do you have Mavericks currently installed or Lion? If you boot and hold down the Option Key after the chime, you'll invoke Startup Manager and you should see a row of bootable partitions. The Recovery Partition should say what the operating system number is (e.g., 10.7.5, 10.8.3). If it's 10.7.x, which is Lion, and you've already installed Mavericks, the issue may be that you can't install an older OS (Lion) directly over a newer OS (Mavericks).

  • How can you find serial number on mac mini running bootcamp Windows 7?

I am using a Mac mini and it is running bootcamp Windows 7, and I want to be able to look for the serial number using the Windows 7 side without booting up to the Mac OSX partition. can anyone help me out with this?

I don't think there is a way to get the Mac serial number in Windows. You could carefully lift up the Mac and look at the printed serial number on the outside of the Mac without having to turn off the computer, otherwise it would be necessary to boot in to Mac OS X.
If you still have the physical packaging the Mac came in the serial number would also be printed on that.

  • Leopard can't find startup disk, or HD

    Hi,
My MacBook (installed Leopard on it about a month ago) hung last night as I was using Firefox, so I powered down and then restarted. A folder with flashing ? icon showed up, so I searched the forums and found some other people who had had the same issue, and tried the suggestions of booting in single-user mode (no luck) and also resetting the PRAM (no luck either).
I then inserted the install disk, and from the Install screen tried to repair my disk using Disk Utility. Unfortunately my HD is not being recognized, so there's no way for me to repair it. Also, when I tried to just reinstall Leopard, the install disc does not recognize any place on my machine where it can be installed-apparently my HD is invisible/missing there as well.
Any ideas? Also, I cannot figure out how to get the install disk out!
    Thanks

your hard drive seems to be completely hosed and needs to be replaced. to eject the install disk restart and hold option at the chime. at the startup manager screen press "eject".

  • Can't find a disk to install OS X Lion

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro (late 2011) with OSX Lion.
My HDD crashed 2 months after my guarantee ended (obviously). I have a backup for all my personal files, but no reboot disk.
I have replaced the HDD with an SSD (Samsung SSD 840 Pro 256gb) and did an internet recovery.
When installing OSX Lion, I am asked on which disk I would like to install, but there are no disks in the list.
Did I miss anything? Looks like my computer doesn't recognise my SSD.
I have launched Disk Recovery, same problem: the SSD doesn't appear in the list.
    Would appreciate some insight here!
    Thanks
    Damien

You have to format the SSD before installing Mac OS X. Start in Internet Recovery holding Command, Option (Alt) and R keys while your computer is starting.
Then, open Disk Utility, look at the sidebar and see if the SSD is listed. If so, choose it, go to Erase tab and format it with "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". Finally, close Disk Utility and install OS X.
If you don't see your SSD in Disk Utility, make sure that everything is connected properly. If everything is connected properly, you can try connecting the old hard disk and see if it's detected. If not, it's possible that you have damaged something, so take your MacBook Pro to an Apple Store or reseller. If it's detected, I recommend you to return your SSD and get a different SSD

I can't find iMovie on my mac any where though it says on the app store it is installed I can not find it to open and use, someone help ?!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Open a Finder window, select Applications in the sidebar and look for iMovie. Make sure there are no external disks connected, and if so, disconnect them, open the App Store and install iMovie.
You can also use Spotlight to look for iMovie, so press Command and Space keys and type iMovie

I accidentally deleted garageband and I can not find the disks how to recover it?

Replacement System Discs can be obtained from Apple's Customer Support - US (800) 767-2775 for a nominal fee. You'll need to have the model and serial number of your Mac available.
If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number - http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/intlstoreroutingpage.html

my mac can't find time capsule, my mac can't find time capsule

I listed the commands.. that is how you manually mount the disk.. follow exactly the commands I gave you.
In finder use top menu, go, connect to server.
    Type in the following.
AFP://TCname or AFP://TCIpaddress (obviously you replace with the actual name or the actual IP address).
    If that fails..
    try
    SMB://TCname
    Here is the screenshot.
tardis4 being the name of my TC.
It should then ask you for your credentials.
And it should remember them in the keychain and be able to then get TM to connect.

  • Can't update daisy disk from Mac App Store

Can't update daisy disk from Mac App Store!! What can i do? AppStore wrote You must login in to @@@@mail, but I login to my account!

You must sign in to the App Store with the Apple ID you used to install the app. If you don't recognize the ID, see below.
You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store notice. For example, if the App Store says you need to update "Twitter," the hacked app may be "Angry Birds" or something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you have to carry out a systematic search.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
In the Finder, press the key combination command-F to open a search window, or select
    File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
    Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu initially showing Kind. From that menu, select  Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select Raw Query and click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of popup menu. Click in that box and paste (command-V).
The search window will show all the App Store products you've installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the items listed in the search window is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Test.

How can I create a start up disk for a old intel core duo running 10.5.8.. Computer works fine, but can't find install disk. Want to use internal disk drive or USD flash drive.

Try calling 1-800-676-2775.  Give the serial number and thy *may* still burn you new install disks designed just for the hrdware in your system (for a fee, something like $160 per disk).  *May* is only because they may not burn disks for Leopard anymore.
If they do not burn them for you, you can buy Leopard disks off Amazon or eBay for about $200.
Have you considered Snow Leopard?.  Those disks only cost $19 (single user) or $29 (5-user license) through Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE.

  • I can't find the "on my mac"folder in mail.

I can't find the "on my mac" folder in email.  I created all my folders there and now can only find the emails if I search for them, but still don't see the folders.  There were on the left side under my email accounts before I had to convert to ICloud.  Can anyone help me find them?

Thank you of the quick reply and I kind of now have more info.
Since posting my question I "exported" the mailbox and voila, 2.6GB of info.  So I think I have some solution.
"Are you desiring to Archive mail older than six months and remove that from Mail?" Not from Mail, but the iCloud, but when I did remove from icloud, I want to make another back up, even though I have time machine.  I want to basically burn a DVD or put old email on other storage media.
"With a better understanding of your goal -- I can help you to a solution." Okay great, appreciate it! I hope I made/make sense.
"If you haven't done a Rebuild lately, I'd highly recommend you start there:"  Ummm  I've never rebuild.... so I also wanted to back up the data before I rebuild I think, right?  I have no other copy, these emails were removed from the iCloud, and put in a mail folder on my mac (which I can't find the mailbox (mbox) on the mac, user name--->documents---> mail folder---> there is no corresponding mbox that I just created, this folder/get info says circa 2012), so the mail on my mac is not copied from iCloud. Technically I do have the time machine backup.... but you never know if that gets corrupted.
So my thought prior to rebuild is to export, as a back up, then rebuild?  As to mailbox naming, since I have no idea where the corresponding folders are on my mac, exporting first, might be best option.  If I rebuild, will that break or possibly lose data?
    Thoughts?

  • Hi, how do I download acrobat professional 7?  I can't find a link for Mac. I reinstalled CS2 (as my old G4 Powerbook needed reinstalling), but it didn't install instal Acrobat or Distiller.  Adobe don't seem to have any contact mechanism.

Hi, how do I download the replace CS2 acrobat professional 7?  I can't find a link for Mac. I reinstalled CS2 from adobe (as my old G4 Powerbook needed reinstalling), but it didn't install instal Acrobat or Distiller.  Adobe don't seem to have any contact mechanism.
I put my old acrobat back onto my machine (from a backup made before reformatting) but it wants the box serial number.  when I did that however, the replacement CS2 photoshop, etc, wouldn't work, so I had to install it again, but then, you guessed it - acrobat won't work again.

    Hello Alan,
Acrobat 7 is older version. Refer below link for more information and how to download.
Error: Activation Server Unavailable | CS2, Acrobat 7, Audition 3
Adobe has made earlier versions available for customer's convenience.
Hope all will go well !!

  • Can we find ASM DISK on which a DB datablock exists ?

Can we find ASM DISK on which a DB datablock exists ?

    Hi,
Yes in some cases I think, its not easy though - it would also be dependent on how your disk group is configured, for instance if you have variable extent sizes then it will be much more difficult.
Why do you need to do this?
    Thanks

How do I sign into messages?  I can't find it on my mac.  I just want to send photos like I used to and it's been changed.  Argh!

Care to share which OS you are using as well as which version of iPhoto?
It would help us to know which computer model you have, which OS & version you're using, how much RAM, etc. You can have this info displayed on the bottom of every post by completing your system profile and filling in the information asked for.
This will help in providing you with the proper and/or correct solutions.
