I can't free up space on MacBook Pro. Please Help.

I'm trying to free up space on my hard drive by deleting files but they do not go to the trash bin and they are not freeing up space.

In the sidebar of a Finder window, select the house icon that represents your home folder.
Open the Info window.
In the Sharing & Permissions section, click the lock icon and authenticate as an administrator.
You should have read & write access. If not, make it so. You can delete any other permission entries.
From the action menu (gear icon), select "Apply to enclosed items."
Close the Info window.
Try the file deletions again.

I used cleanmymac for clean up files, always worked fine before maverick, now i used it yesterday and i can not open any kind of programs except google chrome , my last time machine back up was yesterday but according to him he can restore just complete back up and the last one is in october 2013, i am desperate .

The Hardware Test detected a RAM problem. Take out the chips and make certain that the connections are clean and reinstall them. Make certain that they are well seated.
If the problem occurs again, test with one chip at a time. Also swap bays if necessary.
Please indicate if you have installed new RAM and if so what brand and the specifications.

Unable to free disk space on macbook pro.

I have this weird problem. I have deleted some big files (In GB) to free up HD space, but my Mac HD free disk space stays the same, it is not increasing as it should. I had like 3.7 GB free space. I deleted 4GB files and it still shows 3.7GB free space. I deleted everything from 'Trash' and even tried restarting the computer. What seems to be the problem?

It seems to have something to do with a backup and/or FileVault. Also, do you have any third party apps for backing up, cleaning your Mac, AV protection or anything like that installed?

I can't transfer Macbook applications and files to new macbook pro - Please help!

I have treated myself to a Macbook pro. I have had a macbook from 2008 it has Lion on it. I can't transfer all my information and applications from the old one to the new one...I have logic Pro 9 and Final Cut express, which I bought from apple but haven't got the disks anymore after a fire. What can I do? Tried the ethernet connection and the firewire thing...it's not seeing the old machine. Please help!

I tried to use the migration assistant and had the old Macbook in Target mode but there was no reaction at all. It didn't recognise that there was anything attached. Tried time machine but it won't recognise that there is old backups at all - just starts it as a new time machine.

Unsuccessful data transfer onto my new macbook pro- please help

I have just upgraded to a new 2.16GHz core 2 duo macbook pro and tried last night to transfer my data via firewire using the apple start up set up from my previous 1.83GHz core duo macbook pro bought in March 2006. Unfortunately there were errors in transferring my user folder. I subsequently used migration assistant with the old macbook pro in target disc mode and the same error occurred. I have now manually transferred my user folders by dragging them from the target disc old macbook pro drive into my new user folders in the HD of the new macbook pro. Please can anyone advise me whether this is all I need to do to have my user files on the new macbook pro ie are there any other files I should move over from the old to new computer? The applications transferred in the initial set up and several folders in my HD and it seems only the user folders didn't.
Can someone explain why this happened also please? I have checked the new HD with disc utility and it has no errors.
I have transferred files from several powerbooks in the past using the initial set up or migration assistant and haven't had problems like this before? I wonder whether the new computer is faulty? Please can anyone advise? Thanks

You can only sync the iPhone with one Mac or PC, so your Mac is asking you to erase the device because you synced it with another Mac or PC. To avoid this, I recommend you to copy the "iTunes" folder of your old Mac or PC (in Music folder) to the Music folder of your Mac, so you'll have the same data on your Mac as the data you had on the PC.
To transfer contacts, notes, etc., I recommend iCloud > http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/

Spilt tea on my MacBook Pro, please help!

Im really upset with myself for letting this happen, I learnt the lesson of not having liquids by electronics the hard way....
Basically, I placed my cup of tea (with milk and sugar in it) next to my MacBook Pro and accidentally knocked my cup over to my Mac. I had it plugged in charging as well while this happened.. I quickly ran to get a towel and turned my Mac upside down to get the liquid out. However, I noticed that before I turned it upside down, my Mac turned itself off and the light on my charger stopped working... About 10 minutes later, the fan turned on on my Mac even though the laptop was off.. What does that mean?
I called apple and was advised to not turn it on for at least 72 hours. I've been reading forums and it states that basically my Mac is ruined. I have so many files on it dating back to 2010 and i really don't want to lose them. If I get it fixed, how much would it cost me? can it be salvaged?

That will be because there are short circuits on the logic board, it will continue to happen until the battery dies.
You need to open the Mac and remove the hard drive. It is probably fine. Then you can put it in an external enclosure (or connect with an adaptor cable) and get to your stuff.
You'll need a new Mac as well I'm afraid. Is it insured? (check your homeowners insurance)
And do not plug the Mac back into the charger (but you knew that )

I have a middle 2009 Macbook Pro, and want to connect an external monitor as primary monitor. My budget is around 300-400, and hope to find a relatively perfect one in that price range. I'm really care about brightness, and don't like dim/dark ones. I mainly use the monitor to watch movies and play a few games. 27 inch would be perfect....well, if it has to be smaller.

What if I don't what 2 displays and I only want to support the external monitor? Can I be in extended mode and have only 1 display?
The reason why I ask is because I am going to buy a dock for my MacBook (2012). The dock forces the MacBook to close thereby rendering the internal display useless.
I think what I am after is some sort of "extended to external" mode.

Connection timeout error keeps on occurring on my new Macbook Pro, please help?

I recently bought my Macbook Pro and the software version is OS X 10.8.2. I keep on having "Connection time out error" and I can't use the internet, while my old laptop and iPhone can use it without a problem. This keeps on occurring and I am new to this software, I have searched the internet but the solutions did not solve the problem. I restarted my macbook and still the same thing. I have tried the "Diagnostics" and "Assistant" in network preference but it would keep on rejecting the Wi-Fi's password even though it is correct. I'm trying so hard not to dislike my new laptop and Apple products, I pretty much trust them but this continuous problem is letting me down .

Yes the internal drive can be removed and a IDE/SATA to USB adapter used, provided the drive still works mechanially.

I'm not sure about the iPhone, I think you need to have the same named user account on the new machine + be authorized/logged into your itunes account. but double check that over in the iPhone forum.

If Apple thinks it's a hardware problem, it's not something simple. Take it in for service.
Next time you buy a computer, don't do so until you're ready to open the box and use it as soon as you get it home. If you had had this problem within 14 days of your purchase, you could have exchanged the machine for a new one with Lion preinstalled, no questions asked.

Yes. The Mac won't be able to write to it if it's formatted as NTFS, but there should be no problem in copying from it.

That is impossible to answer, because it depends on the files and what's in them.
MS Office 2011 Mac will have the highest compability with MS Office Win docs. But that doesn't mean there can't be problems, Some docs may be re-paginated if fonts don't match; some Excel macros may not work; there's no Mac counterpart to MS Access; pivot tables may not work as expected, while OLAP cubes will probably not work at all; the Mac version has little or no support for RTL scripts (Hebrew, Arabic, Urdu, etc); and so on.
The rule of thumb is that, the more advanced and sophisticated your use of MS Office Win was, the more likely you are to run into problems when switching platforms.
