I can't get e-mails on iPod touch 1st gen. Error message that I have eithermy password or username is incorrect.  Checked settings both are correct.  Can get e-mails on iPad

Try deleting the account from the iPod and reentering the settings.  It is easy to make an error and notbe able find it.

    You have to restore the device within iTunes. You want to use the same computer that you always sync with so that you can restore your app data and settings. You can restore with any other computer, but you will lose everything on the iPad.

    I have an Ipod touch 1st generation, and I've updated it as far as i can, but when I try to download anything on appstore it says that I need iOS 6.0 to download any program... This kinda means that I can't use Spotify or anything that I want to do with my ipod. Is there anything I can do to make it work? idk what to do.

    Its been months doing research on how to fix my iPod Touch 1st Generation, I always get error 6 and if I try using a different firmware (downgrade) I get error 20. I subscribed to Itunes Match on my computer (Windows 7) I have not been able to get Itunes on my computer to recognize the Ipod Touch therefore I purchased the Itunes Match to get my songs onto the Icloud to then transfer onto my Ipod. When I try to turn on Itunes Match on the Ipod it tells me I have not yet subscribed to Itunes Match, use the computer to subscribe. Please help. Step by step notes would be greatly appreciated.

It has the 2.1.2 ios on it, but after I paid for the upgrade to 3.1.1, I keep getting an error message (8288) saying there was a problem with the network connection. I have called customer service, and they suggested I try on a different computer, and if that didn't work, try connecting to a different network, and then trying the update. None of this has worked. It seems that tech support is clueless with this issue.
      I have installed and unistalled iTunes 10.5, 10.3, 10.4, and now I am back with 10.5. I have tried looking up the issue from several search engines but no one  seems to have a universal solution and I have tried several.
      I really want to have this thing updated for himw hwne he opens it, but I am starting to worry that my purchase was a bust. I know this is the oldest version, but I don't want to buy a newer, more expensive iPod and him still not be mature enough to really take care of it. As I said, this one is a starter.
      Can anyone help? Please?!

    Yes, I have contacted them. They are who told me to try a few of the "fixes". They actually said they had never heard of this error, or any problems relating to his download. Also, when I was talking to them, they came here to this forum to find the answer...:/ This is why I am asking here. I was hoping someone had an idea I hadn't tried already.

    Hello I have an iPod Touch - 1st Gen with iOS 3.1.3.  After each update of iTunes I get this same problem... I'll connect it to the PC and then iTunes will see it and start to sync up.  After a min or so it will say that it can't sync because it can't find the iPod...  Can someome help please?

    Now, there seem to be a lot of different ways to solve the 8288 error, none of which are universal. Best of luck getting yours upgraded!

I’m not trying to bash, it just bothers me that he put up this whole story and finally, at the very end of his blog post, posts his solution.

    Your only hope is to contact a data recovery company. When it shows the connect to iTunes screen the iPod is essentially deleted.

    You do not need Snow Leopord (10.6.X), but you do need Leopord (10.5.8) and iTunes 10.x for iOS 4.3. You need iTunes 10.5 for iOS 5

    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
    How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
