  • Can't get iWeb to publish properly.

I have just spent 4 hours on the line with a Yahoo tech establishing the fact that my problem isn't throughthem but with iWeb.I have two websites, a domain and a subdomain.  The original one publishes all right now after I created an additional FTP userin the Yahoo Password Manager but the second deson't publish changes.  If course this is the most importantone right now and of course it's the one which isn't being updated. The tech ran all the filesl through Filezilla and it said none of them weren't being published. I also downloaded the latest version of Cyberduck so that should be up-to-date.  I am getting desperate because I need this website working properly.  I make changes, save them, click "publish Changes" and it goes through the motions but when I check the website, they aren't there.  Any suggestions?

There's nothing wrong with your website.
    So what's happening.
    You have a website :
    http://www.tonivsweeney.com/
    with a folder tonypaul :
    http://www.tonivsweeney.com/tonypaul/
Where you publish an iWeb site with name tonypaul :
    http://www.tonivsweeney.com/tonypaul/tonypaul/
    with a Welcome page :
    http://www.tonivsweeney.com/tonypaul/tonypaul/Welcome.html
Then you use URL forwarding with masking to :
    http://www.tony-paul.com/
    which hides :
    http://www.tonivsweeney.com/tonypaul/tonypaul/Welcome.html
    and all the other pages.
And http://www.tony-paul.com/ is not a subdomain of yours. It's a domainname.
So configure your domainname/websserver properly to make it look like :
    http://www.tony-paul.com/tonypaul/Welcome.html
That you see the sitename in the  URL, just like this :
    http://www.tonivsweeney.com/tvsweeney%40tonivsweeney.com/
is the way iWeb does it.
There are solutions to hide the Sitename. The ones I use are rather technical (htaccess and mod_rewrite), so I leave it to others to explain the easy solution. Gives them the opportunity to display their skills.

  • How can I get iWeb to visit the proper published site?

I originally set iWeb 2.0 to published to a website for my business (www.globaltradeexpertise.com) and since then, I changed that site's host to another hosting company. I decided to use .mac for my personal website, www.jenniekessinger.com - and have changed .mac to publish to that domain name - which it has just fine. However, now, when I update the site and publish it, iWeb tells me that it is published and to go to www.globaltradeexpertise.com - which is not the right site. The published changes are made to the proper site, www.jenniekessinger.com - so how can I get iWeb to reflect that address after if finishes publishing and when I select "visit published site" from the file menu?
    Any help would be appreciated!

Maybe you could let me know which hosting service you are using so that I can add them to my list of those NOT recommended for iWeb users!
I just dealt with one today who claimed the iWeb sites were incompatible and that the first line of code should be deleted from every HTML file before upload to their server.
They didn't even offer the information that it would be a lot easier to modify the .htaccess file never mind offer to do it for a customer.
Nobody should expect to pay for service like this and the answer is to dump them and go to a company that gives you some value and support for your money. If the ones on this page don't meet your requirements for cost and service...

  • How do I get iWeb to publish just the files to my root directory

Hey all, when I publish my site to my hosting server via iWeb it's just copying the entire folder into my root directory instead of copying the files to the root directory. This is causing my site url to look like this: www.mysite.com/myfolder/ how do I get iWeb to publich the files in the "myfolder" to my server instead of the entire folder?

I needed to do this while keeping ftp publishing inside iWeb, and so I developed a sneaky solution. I just figured this out, so there may be some extra steps in here. Here goes:
Find the iWeb application on the computer you are publishing from.
Control-Click on the application and choose "Show Package Contents".
In the window that appears, open the folder "Contents".
Control-Click on the folder "Resources" and choose "Get Info".
In the window that appears, open the "Sharing and Permissions" drop-down.
Click the lock in the lower-right corner and enter your password.
Where it says "Read Only" across from "Everyone", click the arrows and choose "Read and Write".
Close the "Info" window and open the "Resources" folder.
Find the "defaultPublishConfiguration.plist" file and change the permissions (repeat steps 4-7 but with "defaultPublishConfiguration.plist" instead of the "Resources" folder).
Open the "defaultPublishConfiguration.plist" file in TextEdit.
    Find the line "<string>/Web/Sites</string>".
    Change it to "<string>/Web</string>".
Save and close the text file.
    Restart iWeb.
Go to your publishing settings and enter the information for your server. Point the "Directory/Path" to the folder above your server's root web folder.
Set "Site Name" to the name of your server's web folder.
Make sure that none of the files in your server's web folder have the same name as those iWeb would upload.
    Select File>Publish Entire Site.
It should now publish your site to "http://www.yourdomain.org/Home.html".
    Hope it works!

  • Why do you force us away from genius iweb? Where can I get iweb to my mbook pro with Lion? Upgrade and loose iweb?

    Hi
I´m new here so I don´t know if theese questions are reacheing the Apples staff or only for the community useres..
But I put my frustration out here anyway.. :-) (and sry for my norwegian/eng)
I have like 12 differerent wen sites that I manage, very simple made, but working, thats why I like iweb cos it´s simple and it works.
I have now finnaly taken the step away for PC laptop also, so I went buying a brand new macbook pro weith Lion the other day.
Wanted to work on the websites while and travelling, so I copied all the domain info from myc stationary mac to a USB, ready to put into my new friend..
    What????
    No iweb in the programs..
So there goes that plan into pieces... How to I fix that case? Buying an old ilife and try to intall it?
Then I wanted to upgrad my stationary mac... but reading forums before I do so... DO NOT UPGRADE IF YOU ARE USING IWEB!!!!
Well, thats enough said for me to cancel upgrading for me..
WHY ARE YOU FORCING US AWAY FROM YOUR IWEB???
WHY NOT MAKE A PROGRAM THAT CAN COVERT OUR IWEB INFO TO ANOTHER PROGRAM?
I THINK YOU APPLE GUY´S NOW ARE FORCING US TO DO MOORE AND MOORE STUFF... AND I DON´T LIKE IT ONE BIT!
YOU ARE FORCING US TO LOOK OVER OUR SHOULDER AND BACK TO WERE PC IS AT THE MOMENT.. HAVE THEY IMPROVED SO I CAN GO BACK??
So, as you can understand here, I don´t like the direction that where Apple is going, it´s very roude and to much business now a days..
Not taking care of it´s customers I think..
If you take my point here in basic norw/ eng...
Ok, that smy frustrations, have a nice day all!

That will work.  The latest version of iWeb does run on Lion (with a couple of quirks).
But be aware that iWeb is clearly a dead end;  fixes/updates/improvements are highly unlikely, and it may quit working with new versions of OSX (possibly even future updates to Lion).
If you're using MobileMe as a host, that will stop in June of 2011, so you'll have to move your site elsewhere.  You can still use iWeb with it; a few changes are required on the Site Publishing Settings page, of course, but they're pretty simple.  And a few features won't work, but there are workarounds for them.
I recently moved my iWeb site from MobileMe to GoDaddy, and it was relatively painless.

  • Just bought the new mac book and iweb isn't on it but ilife is how can i get iWeb?

I just bought the new macbook and it has garage band, imovie, iphoto but doesnt have iweb. How can i get it now?

iWeb and iDVD are no longer. If you have a DVD with iLife then you can install iWeb from that DVD. There are other applications like iWeb such as RapidWeaver and SandVox. Otherwise, you will need to purchase an iLife boxed set from a third-party vendor such as amazon.com.

  • How can I get iWeb legally?

I am trying to get iWeb, but I cannot find it in the Apple store. If the program has been abandoned in Maverick, what is the name of the substituting one?

Did you have iWeb on your Mac when you got it initially?  If so then use the disks that came with your Mac to do a custom install of iWeb from the Software Install disk.
Otherwise Iif iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Get iWeb to publish as .htm to non-.mac server

    Hello,
I've created a website and now need to publish it to my university server to simply saving it in a folder. The problem I'm having is that the pages all need to be .htm not .html for some reason and I can't find a way to make iWeb do that...
Has anyone else had experience of using iWeb to publish in this way?
    Cheers
    James

That could be tricky. Simply renaming the files would not be an option, since you'd then have broken links pointing to the old .html filenames.
Are you sure you need to have the file extensions as .htm? In other words, have you tried uploading a test .html file and confirming whether or not it can be viewed via web browser? Older versions of Windows (like, *way back* in the day) required filenames to follow the 8.3 naming convention, but I can't imagine your university server is running something that old.

  • I can't get iWeb started. It does not complete the starting procedure

I can;t start iWeb. It does not complete the startup procedure, and then becomes frozen. I've installediWeb 3.04, but same results. What can I do?

    Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • HT1338 I've updated my web page in iWeb, but I can't get it to publish

I have updated my website in iWeb, but when I go to publsih the changes it seems to take very long and although when I try to quit it asks if I really want to because it's publsihing it doesn't appear to be doing anything.  The last time I updated, it didn't take long to publish, just long for my changes to actually appear on my website.  I am publishing to my own URL, not through mobile me.  Any advice?

You need to post the steps you took, exactly what is happening, what OS version are you running (32 or 63 bit).  No one can begin to help you unless we have more information to try and figure out what is happening.
It sounds like you got iTunes to upgrade and are trying to download the ios5 upgrade for your iPad.  Correct?  First things to try:
    1) reboot your pc
2). Turn off firewall and anti-virus
3). Try again and post the results with any error messages you may get.
    Good luck

  • I can't get iWeb to STOP working.

I uploaded a published iWeb site to my existing web server, under a add-on domain. It was accessible through http://mydomain.com/Photos.html
I noticed after doing this, though, that going to http://mydomain.com/ automatically loaded the iWeb page by default, not the index.php file there. So my domain would go to http://mydomain.com/Photos.html by default instead.
But I deleted everything from that directory — completely empty — but yet I still get a redirect to http://mydomain.com/Photos.html. Even though it doesn't exist!!!
The most frustrating part is this: when you reload that page— the browser acknowledges that it's no longer there, e.g. 404 Not Found.
So how is it that the page comes up in the first place? Where is the data from this page coming from, if I've deleted it from the directory, cleared my cache, loggedout and restarted my computer? And if it exists somewhere, then why then when I refresh the same URL does it come up as a 404?
I can't make heads or tails of this and right now I'm blaming Apple and iWeb for this stubborn behavior because I can delete/add files from other domains/parts of my site and they will break/work as you would expect.
What did iWeb do to make this happen? How I can STOP iWeb's silly page from loading!?

    Okay, I figured it out.
I would clear the cache while the page was still being viewed in a window, and for some reason that didn't actually clear the cache. So that's the browser's being a good little browser, but it's annoying because it should clear everything.
iWeb also has a problem in that is tells pages to cache forever, so the browsers are only doing what they're told.
Close the window, clear the cache, good to go.

  • How can I get iWeb to regenerate my rss.xml file

I use Leopard/ iWeb to create a podcast. When published to the web, the podcast consists of two pages - a home page and an archive page. The home page contains the last 5 or so postings, and the archive page contains all the other postings. Both the home page and the archive page have "Subscribe" icons/links enabling folks to subscribe to my podcast (both icons/links point to same address). So far, all pretty standard stuff.
The focus of my problem is subscribe icon/link, or more accurately, the rss.xml file that it links to. In the past, the rss.xml feed would contain all my postings in the correct date order. Then I entered some new entries retrospectively (i.e. with dates a long time in the past) however they appear in the wrong place in the RSS feed. How can I force the RSS feed to show entries in correct date order?

    Hi,
I've asked for this post to be moved to the [iLife > iWeb Forum|http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=188] for you as that is where you are more likely to get an answer.

  • Created a new site, but can't get it to publish. . . arggh!

I'm a newbie to iWeb but created a site in no time. Trouble is, now that I'm ready to publish, it won't work. I'm trying to publish to an ftp server and seem to have all the info correct.
I'm getting the error message "404 File not found" when I click thru to view the site. I downloaded Cyberduck and see the files there, but they're not visible online.
    any ideas? thanks in advance!
    jenn

    Jenn:
Try publishing to a folder on your hard drive and using Cyberduck to upload the files to your server. Many users have found this method to be more reliable than using iWeb's built in ftp client. Cyberduck can also upload only the new/changed files on subsequent edits and republications.

  • How can I get EDGE to publish audio correctly?

    Hi there,
I'm new to Adobe EDGE and any sort of HTML5, so please forgive my general ignorance. Also, I've looked through all the open questions on the forum about audio and not found any that relate to my issue
I'm trying to work out how to include audio in my EDGE animation that I want to use within iBooks author. I've got the audio to work when I preview it through a browser by using the following code as an on click action on a symbol
    var  track = new Audio();
    track.src = "sound/flute.m4a";
    track.volume = 0.5;
    track.play();
But whenever I actually publish the file as either an html file or as a widget for iBooks (which is what I want it to be ideally) the audio funtion no longer works. Am I missing a check box or simple step here?
If you can help it would be incredibly helpful as I've been struggling with thie for the best part of a day, I've seen other people's widgets with audio in and working, so I know it must be possible!
Oh yeah, I'm right in thinking that .m4a files are teh best for use in iBooks author aren't I?
    I'm on OSX 10.7.5 running EDGEanimate 1.0
    Thanks for looking/helping

    Hi,
I was given a tip only yesterday and haven't actually tried it yet but here it is .. have a look inside the widget package and see if the audio folder/file is in there, if not then re-add it manually.
The tip I was given actually was to create the source link, publish the widget and then add the sound files, the reason I say have a look is because I have noticed that Edge can sometimes leave files and folders out of the widget ..
And not sure what audio is best now iBooks has started accepting a variety of media files since the last update so we are no longer restricted to m4v/m4a ... whatever you put in seems to get optimised anyway ...
    Hope this helps!
