I can't get mail to work behind proxies
I am trying to get to my exchange mail to work behind another company's proxies.
I proxies set-up in system Prefernces/Wi-fi.
Outlook connects fine as there are some preferences for entering your proxy settings. Mail states that I have the passpord incorrect (wich I dont).
I am no proxy expert, but sounds like mail isn't using them.
Any ideas??? THanks!
It might - thanks. I should add, though, that I can't get safari to work on the iPod, either. So it could be something to do with the wireless. The iPod touch is supposed to have wireless capabilities - honestly, it wouldn't matter much to my parents if it didn't; they never touch email, but I would love to be able to mail them!
Those steps at the link are pretty much what I've been doing. I'll try again when I have a stronger wireless connection. Then I'll let you know what happens.

Can't get Mail to work - I get the spinning wheel and Mail freezes. I have to Force Quit Mail . How do I fix this problem?
Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. -
After installing IOS 5 can't get mail to work...
I have been having trouble installing IOS 5 on my Ipad and part of the problem may have been with my home computer... In any event, I finally was able to get it on but the result is a bit discouraging. All my apps are there, but I lost everything on them... not that there was much... but my main concern is that I can't get Mail to work... I go in settings and when I click on mail... it just goes back to the page with all the icons... I have tried reinitializing and all... but nothing works... Any idea what is the issue and how to fix it ?
First try rebooting your iPad. Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time for at least 10 seconds (ignore the red slider to shut down) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will restart. If that does not help, you may need to restore your iPad in iTunes. You can restore from a backup (assuming you have a backup to restore from).

Hi-
I'm trying to set my "mail" up but can't seem to get it to work. I took all of the connection info off of Entourage for connecting to my mail server (charter.net) but when I go to set up the account, it gives me an error that it can't connect via an SSL , Would I like to try without it? When I say yes, the little "thinking wheel" just keeps spinning and never connects. I must be doing something wrong but @@!!### if I can figure out what it is.
Thanks-
DMitzelfeldtI have my SSL on. Here are my settings for Comcast. Maybe you can just use this as a guideline. It's working fine for me.
First go to Settings and choose Mail.
Under accounts, click on the account name you created to edit it.
Under POP Account Information:
Name: Your Name
Address: Your e-mail address.
Description: Your name for the account.
Under Incoming Mail Server:
Host Name: mail.comcast.net
User Name: [email protected] (your full e-mail address)
Password: password for the account
Under Outgoing Mail Server:
Host Name: smtp.comcast.net
User Name: [email protected] (your full e-mail address)
Password: password for the account
Then click on Advanced
Under incoming settings:
Use SSL On
Authentication - Select "Password"
Delete from server - I selected Never
Server Port 995
Outgoing Settings
Use SSL On
Authentication - Select "Password"
Server Port 587
You may have to ask charter.net what your server ports are for incoming and outgoing, if these don't work.
I hope this helps. -
HT2954 Can't get mail to work on Lion. Just died.....
Works fine on all iOS accounts and iCloud. Get following message on set-up:
The iCloud IMAP server “p03-imap.mail.me.com” is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server might be temporarily unavailable. If you continue, you might not be able to receive messages.
I have added and deleted account numerous times. My husband's account works just fine on the same iMac. Can't add Mail account via Preference Panel/iCloud either. His server setting is 'p04' and I can't change mine.....Solved. It was happening on husband's account too afterall. Ended up being firewall settings on FiOS router. All good now, thanks.

HT4929 OS 10.5.8: Can't get mail to work using the recommended icloud settings
Grandma has a G5 imac running 10.5.8 and a .mac account under my master account. Moved her to icloud today, and can login via icloud.com and can see her mail there. Read the article, and using 'Mail' (Vs 3.6)on her mac, deleted her old .mac account, and tried to set up a new account manually, using the settings in the article: imap.mail.me.com, SSL on, her usual user name, and her password (which, btw, works fine on the icloud.com site)
Also, for outgoing, used smtp.mail.me.com, SSL, etc, etc
Tried it 5 times, doesn't work.
Watched a youtube video, where it worked, followed exactly, didn't work! Help, anyone? ThanksI found the answer to this problem on a Nov 2011 posting. Amazing that the current icloud migration notices don't clarify this:
If you were to start a brand new icloud account, they would require at least 8 characters, upper and lower cases, including numbers. If however you are migrating a .mac or .me account to icloud, your old password may not meet those requirements. So, icloud keeps rejecting the attempt to set up an account via the 'Mail' app.
You need to go to http://appleid.apple.com to sign in with your old password, then change to one meeting the new requirements. Do not use http://iforgot.apple.com
Thanks to DendeNYC!!!! -
Can't get mail to work on new iphone
i have two accounts, yahoo and comcast, neither is working on my new iphone 5. the phone accepted the setting for the comcast account, but still no mail. the yahoo account keeps asking me for the password, despite me entering it the mail settings various times. it then tells me the yahoo server is unavailable, try later. has been happening for quite some time.
Did you ever get this to work? Did you have to delete your comcast account and setup new account? My Iphone 5 is doing the same thing - asking for password and then never connects to server - times out

HT4972 can't get mail to work on ipod with iOS5
Updated my iPod to iOS5. Set up all the iCloud details. Settings seems to indicate that mail is on and that all is working well, but my apple mail account is not coming up. It asks for my Apple i.d. and password, but then tells me iCloud is already set up when I enter it. Help! Just want to be able to check my mail on my iPod!
Did you set up the Mail app as follows:
Mail
If you want to check your iCloud Mail, you can do so by visiting icloud.com from a Mac or PC (as long as it meets the browser requirements for icloud.com). Alternatively, you can configure a mail application that supports IMAP via SSL for use with iCloud Mail. More information is available here.

Can't get mail to work. 127.0.0.1 refused
The server I had for mail died, so I am trying to get my companies mail over to the server we use for hosting our web sites. At one point before I worked here this server hosted the mail as well as the sites, so I thought this would not be such a daunting task. The overview in SA shows my SMTP, POP is Enabled, but I get error "connect to 127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1]: Connection refused". I can't figure out the problem.

Can't get mail to work with SSL certificates
I'm setting up a 10.5.3 mail server and wanted to enable SSL for SMTP and IMAP.
It all works fine if I use the Default certificate that the server generates automatically. But if I want to generate a new certificate with a pass phrase it stops working.
You start seeing errors like the in the system log:

Anyone know how to fix this?I still think there's something wrong with Server Admin in 10.5 that's stopping this from working.
I've checked the certificate I'm using on my 10.4.11 mail server and it's key file is encrypted but SMTP mail works fine over SSL. I imported the certificate using Server Admin, I didn't edit the config file manually.
How would the system be decrypting the key before postfix uses it in 10.4? Any why doesn't this work in 10.5? -
I can't get mail to work after complete re-install

So in hotmail it finally lets me select if I use POP to download Hotmail messages to another program, that program could make it so I can't read my messages on Hotmail. (For example, this might happen if you use Mac Mail or Mozilla Thunderbird).
I have the "Do what my other program says-if it says to delete messages, then delete them." box selected.
however my mail on my it mac says
"There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “[email protected] ” or try again. The server returned the error: The connection to the server “pop” on port 110 timed out."
yet it works on my itouch with mail and hotmail. what is going on? how can i get mail to work with hotmail on my mac?By doing a Google search for their phone number and their support website.

Have entrourage and want to use Mail. Can't get it to work.
I had a macbook and purchased the Microsoft office for Mac which included Entrourage.
I have now purchased a new macbook Pro and want to begin to use Mail rather than Entrourage.
I have Entrourage on my new computer but i can't get it to transfer my information to the the Mail program
I am on Charter.net at my office and sbcglobal.net at home.
How can i get this to work. I can receive on Mail, but i can't send.check your outgoing port settings and make sure it's using a specific port and not the default port, also you might want to check to see if it is using SSL, TLS or any other encryption. Verify the setting from your old machine setup.

Can't get Mail working properly
I just got my new MacPro this week, and it's really great except for I can't get Mail working right. I've set up my accounts and a few emails come through, though not many, and because it's been a week since I've been online, there should be many more than that. Also, I can't send any emails at all, no matter what I do. They will eventually go into my Sent box, but I've been sending them to myself to see if it's working, and they never come through. I spent an hour on the phone yesterday with the tech support for my ISP, and they told me that I'd have to talk to the Apple techs because they didn't have current info for *Mail 3.1*, the version I have, that the latest they had was for 2.something. So I called the Apple tech support and spent 2 hours on the phone with them, and they weren't able to help me get it going correctly either. It keeps giving me error messages such as Connection Failed, or Unable to Receive Mail, saying "there may be a problem with the mail server or network" and that "the connection to the server on ... port has timed out." I'm on DSL and am always online, so I know it's not the internet connection that's the problem. Can anybody give me some advice on what I should try? Any help will be gratefully appreciated!
Is your ISP Verizon, Demon, or Glocalnet, then it might be Apples biggest Leopard Bug in conjunction with these ISP:s POP-servers.
The one that randomly changes the settings in "advanced" from "password" to "APOP".
The visual result of this bug is that you will get a popup-box where Mail asks you to enter your password. (Which is useless entering, since the preference settings are changed.)
My advice counts only when you are supposed to use "password" as the correct setting in "Advanced" and in conjunction with some ISP:s.

Can´t configure secondary e-mail. That is I have the icloud account and earlier bought an account för my wife. Now she can´t get it to work. Where the h--l do I configure this?
Welcome to the Apple community.
If you are referring to adding a secondary account, to a single device, then you can do this at system preferences >mail, contacts & calendars.
