I can't get my 4:3 clip to not be squashed by the 16:9

I have a screen capture movie from my iPad that I am trying to edit in iMovie, but it insists on importing it as a 16:9 and squashing it.  I've read through all the threads here about going to Adjust -> Crop -> Fit to put black bars around it, but when I choose Fit, nothing happens.  It's the same squashed 16:9 ratio.
Why did Apple remove 4:3 from iMovie, anyway?  I don't understand why they would take functionality AWAY from a product... sheesh.

No, your new camera is not yet on the list of supported cameras, see this link:  Apple - Aperture - Technical Specifications - RAW Support
In the past, Apple has regularly included raw support pretty quickly for new Nikon and Canon Cameras, and other cameras, that professionals are like to use.
And you are right, the RAW support has been built directly into MacOS X for the recent AW support releases. The last list for Mavericks is here: It might give you an idea about the frequency of RAW support releases: OS X Mavericks: Supported digital camera RAW formats
Is my understanding correct, that the Nikon D 750 will be supported by OS X?
We really do not know, and can only go by past experience. Apple never announced in advance, which cameras will be supported and when.
Use the software that came with your camera to develop the RAW images, while you are waiting. Or import RAW&JPEG pairs and work with the JPEG as original  for the time being. You can switch to the RAW original as master, when the RAW support will be available.
