I can't get my 6th gen nano to stop shuffling songs in a playlist.  I turned off "Shake to Shuffle", to no avail. Extra annoying when the playlist is an audio-book. Can anyone advise?

Many of my playlists are audiobooks that I have borrowed from the library on CD and downloaded, not the ebook type. It is, of course, extremely annoying to have the tracks shuffled.  Is this something I am doing, or a problem with my nano?  I do have the latest version of iTunes.

I finally exported my music to a DVD and moved it to another computer that I just bought. When I plugged in the Nano, I tried restoring the settings again. Even though I had just restored a few days before that and updated the Nano software on the other computer, it told me new software was available for the Nano! So it went thru the restore process and I loaded the music again. Same problem with the unwanted shuffling. When I checked some of the songs, shuffle was ON. I turned it off on a couple of songs, and now it's back to normal. No shuffling. Go figure.

My 6th gen nano doesn't shuffle.  It just plays the same song over and over.  How do I fix this?

Make sure the Repeat setting hasn't been enabled.  See your iPod's User Guide for more information.

  • My 6th gen nano has started relaying song info over and over again through the songs, any ideas?

The nano just interupts each song with the title and album of the song, and then more obscure stuff. Almost as if some deaf-function has been turned on, is there such a thing?

Seemed to be working properly this morning.  I think the real problem was when I tried to skip forward/back some tracks, it lost its place and then kind of "fell into" the shuffle mode.  But it's playing the tracks in order now, as it should be per the settings shown on the screen.  As long as it's doing that, I'll be happy and will deal with any other issues as they come up.
So I guess another question is - if I have it in "continuous" play mode (oval arrows highlighted in blue) and then navigate to the "albums" screen and call up the album being played, should it show the "continuous" play mode at the top of the track listing?  Because currently, it shows the shuffle mode at the top of the track liting - "X" arrows, but *NOT* highlighted in blue.
I think that's part of what confused me - I expected that the current play mode would display at the top of the track listing, and if I tapped that, it would toggle through the options until it got to the one I wanted.  But of course, with only shuffle mode displayed there at the top of the track listing, when I tapped it, it went right into shuffle mode and started shuffling the tracks on that album.
    Hope this makes sense....
    Thanks.

  • Does anyone know how to get a 6th gen nano to just play a single podcast and then stop?  My old 2nd gen did this, but its slicker replacement has this annoying habit of just ploughing through the whole list.

I like to listen at night, but it's still playing by morning.  My old one just played one and then stopped - I liked it much better, thanks if any solutions

My 6th gen nano ipod stopped working. I figured it was because it was next to my sweaty body, so put it in rice. I sought help from internet and tried all of the troubleshooting steps; i.e pushing down the power button and the volume down button consecutively, plugging it in to a power source, waiting 10 minutes and pushing the buttons while it was plugged in. Nothing has worked thus far. Is there anything else that I can try?

  • 6th Gen Nano and Car Adapters

Anyone know if the new 6th gen Nano will work with automotive iPod adapters? Specifically, I have an after-market Sony deck in one car, and the other is a Cadillac CTS with built-in iPod connector. My old 4th gen Nano works, but it seems these car kits only work with the click-wheel style of iPod (something about the way the file structure is done on these devices).
My iPhone 4 gives me an "incompatible" message in the Cadillac, but it does seem to have limited functionality through the head unit.

    No, it does not.

    Hey there larkandwarbler,
It sounds like you are experiencing multiple issues with this iPod Nano 5th Gen. From what you are describing it seems we can isolate this to either the software or the hardware on the device with a couple of simple steps assuming you have tried another set of headphones. First, reset your iPod with this article:
    How to reset iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
How to reset an iPod with a Click Wheel
iPod models with a Click Wheel include:
    iPod nano (5th generation)
    iPod nano (4th generation)
    iPod nano (3rd generation)
    iPod nano (2nd generation)
    iPod nano
Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. Try resetting the iPod while it is connected to power.
If you are able to reset it, but the issue persists, or you are unable to reset it, I would next attempt restoring it with iTunes:

  • HOW do I get the "watch" to stay on and not shut off on my 6th GEN  NANO?

After purchasing a $70 cool watchband for my new 6th GEN NANO, I'm very disapointed that I can't get the "watch" function to stay on more than 15 seconds.  AppleCare says that it isn't meant to stay on, it would run down the battery.  Then why put on 16 watch faces, and show it as a "watch" on everything you publish?  Doesn't make sense you can watch TV shows and movies, but doesn't have enough battery to run a watch face.   BAD design, and shame on APPLE for selling a dozen different watchbands in their stores.  Now don't you think the store salesman would say "are you thinking of wearing this as a watch, or to hold your NANO while you are at the gym"?   15 seconds is often not enought time to get setup and take someone's blood pressure.  I don't think I need to offer an explanation of WHY a watch should work more than 15 seconds without pushing a button, do I?

This is getting silly, but I'm not too young to remember the early digital watches.  The difference is that we knew what we were buying .  jThey were upfont about the FACT that the watches didn't stay on.  And how well did they sell as watches?  Hmmm    I don't think any of us said that Apple was pushing Nano primarily as a watch.  That said, this is not a third party "app" either .... 18 clock faces come with the Nano as a "feature" of the product. It's not a "digital time read out"... it's made to look and act like a watch.   Apples own website touts that you can change its face "to match your mood or your outfit".... The  bands they sell range from $20 bucks to like $150 bucks....   This is a HUGE money maker for them.   It is THESE KINDS OF FEATURES that brings people back buying new ipods, because like I said, without them, I have plenty of devices that already "record music", or "store pictures".    And your other points have zero merit.  Go to the Apple website to the Nano 6 page where Apple touts all of its merits. This is where Apple explains the features of their product.  There is a whole section:
    http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/features.html
Clock faces. Time to match your mood. Or your outfit.
    (copy below)
    It’s all in the wrist.
Do you wear your iPod nano on a watchband? With 18 different clock face designs to choose from, you can have a new watch style whenever the mood strikes you. Sport an analog face for a formal event, go digital for a retro feel, or choose a whimsical, animated character like Mickey Mouse or Kermit the Frog. There are also color options so you can match the color of your iPod nano. iPod nano watchbands are available in a range of styles and colors from theApple Online Store.
And last, for the record Sir, I have probably purchased 50 Apple products for myself, my business, and as gifts in the last 10 years.  I have had my manufacturing issues which Apple always responsibly took care of.  But I have NOT ONCE complained in this forum about ANYTHING. I am a HUGE Apple fan.  I felt strongly enough, that this issure warranted warning others about.  Mostly, I wanted APPLE to understand the gaff and perceptual problem which was created. Perhaps not to all (like to you), but certainly to some (obviously like me). Let's face it, we BOTH represent groups of the public, like it our not.  Especially, since I rarely talk to Apple staff, I'm an early adopter, and for some reason, I hesitated on this product and did talk to a couple staff members when I was in the store FOR OTHER THINGS. I bought one for myself, and three for gifts.  I've already returned the ones I bought as gifts, because when I showed my neices and nephews MINE, and the disfunction of the watch, they all lost interest in keeping theirs, and opted for other Apple devices instead.  And if you still don't think they are marketing this Nano as a watch more than  iphone, touch, pad, or classic, then I throw up my arms, and say Happy New Year.  You are Apple washed and whipped beyond repair. NOBODY is perfect, not even Apple.  Or, you.

  • Is there anywhere I can still buy a 6th gen nano?

    Hi there,
My 6th gen nano was recently stolen. I'm desperate to replace it as I found it perfect for exercise. Does anyone know if there's anywhere I can buy another one? I've been looking online, and there are ebay options, but I'd rather buy one instore somewhere.
I'd really appreciate any feedback or guidance.
    Thanks!

I don't know of any store that is selling the 6th Gen and Apple has not offered refurbished models for a few months. You could try pawn shops, outlet stores, etc.

  • Can I somehow teach my 6th gen Nano to tell me how far I've walked in miles rather than "steps," by telling it how long each of my steps is?

Using the pedometer in a 6th gen Nano:
Currently, it (very accurately) tells me how many steps I've taken when I go for a walk. Works fine.
Meanwhile, on my own, I carefully calculated how far each of my "steps" is (2.231 feet/step, in case you're curious).
Thus, after each walk, I multiply the number of steps I've gone by 2.231 to get the number of feet I have traveled, and then divide by 5,280 to get the exact distance I've traveled in miles.
While this system works fine enough, I'd like to avoid having to do a bunch of arithmetic after each excursion. So I ask:
Is there any way to input into the Nano the exact distance of each of my personal steps, and then have the Nano automatically display to me the distance of a walk in mile units of measurement, rather than (or perhaps in addition to) simply the number of "steps" I've taken?

I am working with the very same concept for my project and the auto fade in and out has messed everything up. If I hear or a fix I'll be sure to reply here to let you know!

Can the voiceover utility on the 6th gen Nano be accessed with headphones other than the Apple earphones?

No I have tried and they don't also my iPod touch 2nd generation doesn't work with voice control unless it has apple earbuds plugged in. I guess apple doesn't want 3rd party brads interfering with their company. Thanks please like
