I can't get my brand new iMac to find my Time Capsule

Hi there,
I wonder if anyone can help me because I am pulling my hair out.
My old iMac recently died. It had been working merrily, connecting to my old Airport Extreme happily, but then had a major problem and needed to go. So after five years I bought a new one.
So I bought a 20-inch: 2.66GHz iMac.
All great but it couldn't pick up the signal from the Airport Extreme. While my old iMac always had 4 bars signal, this one struggled to have one.
I didn't mind too much. I'd also bought a Time Capsule.
Set it up. My old PowerBook G4 found the Time Capsule and set it nicely. My Mac Book Core 2 Duo found it and stayed connected with 4 bars right beside the iMac (on what I'm assuming is the g network).
The iMac can't find it. It can't see the g network and it can't find the n network.
I've checked Network Interface and the 'n' capabilities are enabled (it says 802.11 a/b/g/n under Model Wireless Network Adapter.
The 2.4 Ghz network is on channel 6 and the 5 Ghz is on channel 36
The Radio mode is automatic
I must admit, I'm not that techy but I've tried to follow all the support I can see.
Can someone help?

Welcome to the discussions, cavscott!
I'm sure you've tried numerous things to try to connect like restarts, turning the wireless off and on, checking for the right password, etc.
Have you considered the possibility that the wireless card in the iMac is either not installed correctly or may be defective?
Severe wireless inteference could be a cause of poor connection quality, but it's unusal to have no signal at all. If it's convenient, can you temporarily move the iMac to a few other locations to see if it gets a good signal? If you move it close to the Time Capsule and still see no signal, or very little signal strength, I think you have confirmation that the wireless card will need to be checked out.

I use Time Machine to back up my entire computer with my external hard drive. I am getting a brand new iMac this month and was wondering what is the process of using this back up to restore my new computer exactly how my old computer was? I want to make sure I will still have various important files on my new computer, like my songs in iTunes, my photos in iPhoto, etc, etc. Thanks so much in advance!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
When you turn on the new iMac for the first time, Setup Assistant will ask you to restore a backup, so connect the external disk and follow steps to restore all your files to your new iMac. Your new Mac will have the same settings and programs as your old computer.
In other cases, I would recommend to restore the whole backup without using Migration Assistant or Setup Assistant, but a Late 2012 iMac uses a special OS X build, so the OS X version that you're using on your old Mac won't work on the new one. • I can't get my brand new mac mini to start up.

The screen goes black after showing me the applie logo. It does talk to me, but without the screen, that's not much use. Any suggestions? I tried restarting several times, incl. while holding the ALT key down. Same [lack of] result.

I've tried all suggestions and the MBP is not recognizing my Onkyo TX-SR705 which is only 3 or 4 years old.
Could this be a HDCP problem ?
You have 14 days to return the computer w/no questions asked.  Plus you have 90 days of FREE phone tech support on top of your standard 1 year warranty unless you also purchased AppleCare which gives you an additional 2 years of coverage plus FREE phone support.
Strongly suggest that you take FULL advantage of the above before it runs out.  Let Apple deal w/the problems.

  • How can i get a brand new case for my iphone

I NEED TO GET A BRAND NEW CASE FOR MY IPHONE BECAUSE MY IPHONE IS DENTED ON THE BACK AND SCRATCHES ALL OVER THE PHONE, IF SOMEONE CAN HELP ME I WILL APPRICIATED.

You can start by not using all caps - using all caps on the internet is considered as SHOUTING and hopefully you didn't intend to be shouting at all those who read your post.
When you say case, do you mean the iPhone casing itself?
If so, you can contact AppleCare for a quote to repair this damage which won't be cheap. I believe there are some 3rd party repair facilities available that will do the same won't be cheap but maybe somewhat less than what Apple will charge.
Or purchase a case for the iPhone to cover the dents and scratches and to protect it from additional damage with future drops.

  • How can I get a Brand New iPhone 3GS as a warranty replacement phone?

    4/26/2011
Does anyone how I can get a brand new iPhone 3GS as a warranty  replacement for my iPhone 3GS? I already had the phone replaced once with a refurbished phone that has a problem with becoming frozen and unresponsive. This occurred ten times since I got the phone on 4/16/2011. I have tried doing a hard reset and have also restored the phone as a new device. I have an Apple Care plan. I am concerned that the refurbished phones will not be reliable due to my experience with the refurbished  one that I got as a replacement.
    Thanks!

Thanks very much for your reply! I have a Genius Bar appointment today maybe they can test the phone to see if they can determine whether or not it is defective.
    Thanks Again!

  • Where can I buy a brand new imac g5?

Hi do any of you know where I could purchase a brand new imac g5 from  many thanks

This is is the iPad forum.  Perhaps posting in one of the desktop computer forums may be a better option.
In any case  an iMac G5 is the 2006 model of the All in one.  Don't think new versions of those exist anywhere.
If you mean the Last gen Mac Pro (looked like G5 Power Mac) which is the predecessor to the new Mac Pro black cylinder: since apple no longer makes that version, but instead is making the New Mac Pros now, its probably going to be difficult to find a new G5.  Unless a computer store happens to have left over inventory.
Price would tentatively be lower, but again finding one is going to be very difficult.

  • Brand new iMac: The Finder disappears; "clicking" on Finder won't open it

Something weird happened to my wife's new iMac today after being asleep since yesterday: my wife wakes it up, launches safari, participates in a family dialog at Facebook, then quits safari and proceeds to turn off the computer. But the Finder menu at the top of the screen is not there, so she calls me to show me what's happening.
I try to find the Finder menu, but it's nowhere to be found (the entire menu at the top of the screen is missing), so I click on the Finder's icon at the left-bottom corner of the Dock, and the following appears on a window on the screen: "The application Finder can't be opened -10810."
I then press the three keys to force quit whatever application may be causing this problem, and the "Force Quit" screen is completely blank; not even the Finder is shown on this window. The only option I had to turn the imac off, was to hold the power button for a period of eight seconds. After it was off I restarted the iMac with the power button, and the iMac is now working like the problem never happened (the Finder menu is there).
By the way, while the Finder menu was not there, we could still use Safari, Mail, and every application in the computer. This iMac was purchased a couple of weeks ago from Apple, and the OS as well as every application installed on the hard drive has been updated. An Apple technician is scheduled to call me in the morning (Sunday).
Has any of you experienced such thing?

Boot the Mac from the OS installer disk that came with it. Insert the DVD and reboot holding down the 'c' key until you see the spinning cog. Select your language and then from the menu Utilities select Disk Utility. Select the Macintosh HD from the left side column and then select Repair Disk. Post back.

  • Brand new iMac, and the load time for internet use is very poor

Brought my new iMac home today. 2.7 GHz intel core i5
Got it set up with my wireless and i am very unimpressed with the internet and loading speed. My phone, 1 lap top, and 1 ipad use wireless in our house along with the iMac. i have a cisco linksys E2500 is that sufficient enough all of my usage? No gaming more than what a todler would play on. Basic internet use and editing pictures.
My question i guess is, is it my router or are iMac's just not that fast?

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • Can't get iTunes to attach to external HD through Time Capsule

I have copied my Itunes library to an external HD (My Book studio Edition). My external drive is connected to  my Time Capsule via USB.
I restarted Itunes holding down the Option key and selected the HD as the new location. However, when I check using Show in Finder it still shows old destination. DId a check by deleting a single song, emptied trash and song did not play so I know Itunes ahs not attached to external drive. Any help would be much appreciated.

I do realize I'm talking to myself here haha. Well, now it seems to be even weirder because I juet kept trying and trying and it finally recognized the iphone but then after I start syncing, it cuts out after about a minute or two and I get an error message saying there was an "invalid response recieved from the device". So I hooked it back up and it recognized it again (after several tries) so I hurried and manually tried syncing some of favorite songs and then it cut out again, when I checked the phone only the ones I added the second time were there, the first round of syncing had been erased. It's a vicious cycle I'm in here! I had this phone for a day and I HATE it!! I'd rather have my dinky little razor phone that at least had video and zoom capabilities. So far all I want to do is take this thing and chuck it into the street!

  • How can i get an xbox 360 to connect to my time capsule via WIRED connection?

I have a Time Capsule and i need to connect my xbox 360 to it because my stepdad has the network in this house set up crazily. He gets mad if i ask him to change anything because it is how he wants it and it works with EVERYTHING ELSE. I do not have a wireless adapter so i need to connect the xbox to my time capsule via a wired connection
    Thanks =]

Here is what I would look into.
Use iCloud and photo stream to upload pictures taken with the iPad.
Find a remote log in utility, or web based app to then remote to your computer.
Download the files from photo stream to your time capsule.
As far as recommending a remote log in utility. I have not experience in that area and would need to do research my self.

I have the old machine backed up onto an external firewire disk but can't hook that up to the new imac as I'm waiting for delivery of a firewire 400/800 adaptor - therefore starting the old machine up as a slave is also subject to the same delay.
I was hoping there might be some way to create a network between the 2 machines (and 2 different versions of the OS) to be able to transfer data across immediately but perhaps I'll just have to wait for my firewire adaptor to arrive.
I don't understand why you're buying a Firewire adaptor, since AFAIK both of your computers have Firewire already built in.
All you need is a firewire cable. Connect the Firewire socket on the old machine to the Firewire socket on your new iMac.
Then start the old machine in Target Mode (i.e. by holding down the T key on its keyboard, while it's starting up, until you see the three-legged T icon hopping around the screen of the old machine.)
At that point you will also see a new icon on the screen of your new iMac. This is the hard drive of your old machine.  By clicking on it you can navigate through it any way you like, just as you would normally.
Just drag across whatever you want from the old computer to the new one. This will leave everything on the old computer untouched.
    - or use Migration Assistant but in my experience, Migration Assistant isn't very reliable and fails to migrate large amounts of stuff.

  • I can't get my iChat to work on my brand new iMac.

I am trying to use my iChat on my brand new iMac intel. It looks like I have an account, but it is disconnected. And I can't seem to connect it...or find any resources online to explain why. Any ideas?  Cheers, Erik

    Hi,
So in iChat > Preferences > Accounts you list something in addition to the Bonjour Account ?
If you click this account to Highlight and then make sure the account Info tab is the active one - is the "Use this Account" check box ticked ?
What message to you get if it isn't and you tick the box ?
What sort of an account is it ?
It will list AIM whether it is AIM, @mac.com or one from MobileMe.
    Pic of Check box
    Notes:
Apple allow passwords over 16 characters in registering for a MobileMe account and @mac.com names.
However the AIM servers can only make use of passwords up to 16 characters in length  so you may have to shorten it.
In the pic you can see my Screen Name does not have a @something.com (it is a plain AIM name)
However at AIM you can also register Email address as Screen Names
    GoogleTalk
If you have a email account with Google you can Enable Talk as an Option of your Google Account page.
This will let you chat in the Google Mail Web page.
You can also use this name in iChat.
However you must enter the name as it appears on any Google page when you are logged in.
So if you are [email protected] it should be entered that way.  Same for an @gmail.com ending. (The Mail app does not seem to mind but iChat does - well the Talk server does)
    Other Jabber accounts/IDs
Like AIM valid Names you have to have registered from a Jabber ID with a server before you get to enter it in iChat.
With these Jabber accounts the iChat app will presume the server name is the last part after the @ (they look like email addresses)
So in this case if you are [email protected] iChat will extract the aJabberServer.Com to Move to the Servers settings tab info.
(The exception is Google which is also a Jabber server).
Presumably you did this through the Start Up Screens as in these pics
http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/versions/ichatvers4/howtoStartiChat.html  (iChat 5 is exactly the same at this point)
If none of this makes any sense or does not match what you remember doing could you detail that as much as possible.
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link
There are in fact over 360 pages here on iChat.

  • How do I uninstall Mavericks and recover Lion?  I have a brand new iMac and web pages stall or freeze since I installed Mavericks.  I can't get it to download software for my printer when I connect it.

I have a brand new iMac.  It was working fine until I downloaded Mavericks.  Now I have web pages that freeze while trying to load.  The blue in the address bar stalls and freezes.  If I try to load from page 1 to a later page, or reverse that, I also have the same problem.  I tried to connect my printer for the first time, and again, the blue progress bar froze.  Then I got the yellow  triangle telling me there was a connection problem.  My internet connection is via an Air Card as that is my only option where I live.  I packed up the whole new iMac and took it to my Air Card provider, where they also have very fast Wifi, and they had the same problem with Wifi.  I use my Air Card with my MacBook and it works JUST GREAT!  I really want to return to Lion.  HELP.

The only way to retutn to Lion is to format your drive (erase, lose all) and either:
    1. clone back the clone copy i hoep you have, or
    2. first backup your files, then format and install Lion again
But really, mavericks works great. You have a problem. Find out why. First, what unusual software do oyu have installed that may be conflicting with it? Virus, system modifiers, etc?  Second what OLD software do you have that might be the problem.  finally, you might need to do a re-install if something errored during install.

  • Can't partition HD with Bootcamp Assistant on brand new iMac

I just got a 27" 1TB brand new iMac three days ago. After copying over all my files from my previous computer (PC), installing some software packages and configured the Mac the way I want it, yesterday I wanted to partition 80GB out of remaining 330GB with bootcamp assistant to install Windows 7. After one hour it stopped with an error message that it wasn't able to move some files and I would need to re-format the HD and start again.
Is there really no other way? It took me two days to get to where I am.

It should only take less than a minute.
So just use OS X software to clone what you have to another hard drive, then do an erase and restore.
And backup before starting is at the top of the list of things to do to prepare.
http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp - re-read the pdf guide linked at the top and other tech articles.
And you really do want bootable clone image of Mac OS anyway, in addition to or in place of TimeMachine, so no loss in doing so. It isn't as if you will lose or have to redo.
It needed contiguous free space and no files at the end of the disk. But installers and updates do scatter files and fragment free space a lot and can leave files locked where they can't be moved.
    SuperDuper
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    iDefrag
    iPartition
    Apple Disk Utility Restore
And you can have OS X on multiple hard drives, plus it really helps for doing the type of maintenance and repairs needed for updates and proper running.
