I can't get my hp office jet pro 8500 A910 printer to print in color when I want to .

When I want to print a page from the internet in black & white it prints in color.  When I want to print an excel file in color, it prints in black & white.
This is a new problem.  My printer use to work just fine.
My operating system is Windows XP.

    Printers all in one

Hi @Curved , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you're having issues with your ink output. I'd like to help!
I would recommend removing the cartridges, and performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.

  • New hp Office Jet Pro 8500 A910 will not take printing from computer to printer

My new HP Office Jet Pro 8500 A910

    Hi Acepvteye,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you cannot print with your HP Officejet pro 8500 A910, and I am happy to help you with this
    issue!
For further assistance, I will need to know:
If the printer is connected, Wireless, or USB.
If you are using a Windows or Mac Operating System, and the version number. To find the exact version, visit this link. Whatsmyos.
If the printer is able to make copies by itself.
If the power cable plugged into a surge protector, or directly to the wall outlet. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
Hope to hear from you, and thank you for posting!

  • HP Office Jet Pro 8500 A910 using ink too fast, black missing intermittingly

If the XP Experts can help me, I'll be eternally grateful.
I've only printed a total of 932 pages from my printer that was purchased nearly two years ago in June of 2012. The yellow cartridge ran out a couple of months ago, so I replaced that ink cartridge (with genuine HP 940 XL) and printing has been an issue ever since.
At first, the black was very faint and there were lines through all of the colors on a test page, so I went through the print head alignment and print head cleaning procedures and then seeing that the levels were low on the other inks, I replaced those cartridges as well. I cleaned and aligned, and cleaned and aligned, resulting in the creation of the about 30 of the total of 932 pages that were printed. I did the printhead cleaning procedure, removing the printhead, etc. as recommended in the forum and it did nothing. I haven't moved the printer and I have it plugged into a dedicated outlet (not a power strip).
I gave up on it and used my faithful, B&W stand-by Samsung laser printer in the meantime.
Then one day, a couple of weeks ago, I decided to try to print again from the HP. It worked! It was a miracle, but it didn't last. It printed a couple of pages correctly, then it printed very faint colors and I got a message that my yellow cartridge needed to be replaced. WHAT! I had replaced it with an XL cartridge only about 30 pages ago. Really? The original cartridges lasted for nearly 900 pages.
So, I dutifully bought new ink and replaced the yellow cartridge. Still not printing with deep enough colors. I noticed that the other cartridges, except for black were very low, so I replaced them as well. That seemed to do it. I printed a perfect page right after!!! However, my excitment was short lived as the next page I attempted to print failed to show any black. I cleaned and aligned the printheads, and even replaced the black cartridge even though it was still half full. Still not able to print. The test page that I printed that shows the number of pages printed in magenta.
I don't know what to do now. Probably need to replace the printer, which is a pretty crappy solution. The warrenties should be based on the number of pages printed rather than the purchase date.
If the XP Experts can help me, I'll be eternally grateful.

Hum. I'm not surprised that this advice, but I am extremely disappointed in HP. This is my 2nd inkjet printer from HP and up until this printhead issue, I was very satisfied.
I wish I hadn't invested so much in ink (two sets of XL cartridges) trying to get this printer to work. Does a bad printhead explain why the ink was used up after 30 pages? I don't know where the ink went, because the test pages didn't have much on them. High capacity ink cartridges are a joke. Twice as many pages, really?
Based on the numerous problems with printheads as evidenced by other forum posters, I think it would be foolish to spend another dime on this printer. 930 pages and I need a new printhead is unacceptable. I  will search for a replacement printer, and not necessarily HP.
If another expert has a solution, like HP extending my warranty or providing me with a free printhead, or providing me with a special rebate, I want to hear from you!

  • Office Jet Pro 8500 Offline Will Not Print

Please help! I cannot get my Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless to print. I have had this printer since early September and have not gotten it to work wirelessly on my laptop with the exception of using the USB configuration.
I have a Dell laptop that I had issues in the begining to recognize the printer, but it does now. But when I go to print I get an error message that the printer is "offline" and I'll get another error message  "document failed to print". I have made sure that the printer is on line by going through the control panel, printers etc sequence. I have shut off the printer and unplugged the router, too which is a Linksys WRT350N Wireless N. But to no avail. I  have a Dell desktop which is wired through the router works fine as does two other wireless laptops which are HP and a Sony Vaio which print wireless. The latter two running Vista, while the Dell laptop in questions runs XP Professional and the Dell desktop runs XP. I have the same issue with a HP C4500 wireless which works fine with all the computers in my home except the Dell laptop. Any help is appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    DeeDubb

  • AnyConnect VPN and HP Office Jet Pro 8500 A910

I can print from my IBM T400 laptop running Windows 7 64-bit. However, when I log into work AnyConnect VPN, I cannot print. It says the printer is disconnected from the network even though it is connected. IT support at work says it cannot change or adjust any VPN settings. The only way I can print is to disconnect from VPN. Is there anything I can adjust on the printer software or printer itself?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi,
In order to print over the local network while connected to a remote VPN network might be possible by modifying the VPN split tunneling configuration.
However, it is depands on the VPN capabilities and might not be allowed due to security requirements of your IT department.
Anyway, there is no way to configure such a thing by the printer or the printer software.. it is directly affected by the network configuration, and therefore require to change the VPN settings.

    Moe,
This is a fix - you need to update the printer software with the new Full Feature Software for Windows 8.1:

  • Hp Office Jet Pro 8600 A910, suddenly can't send fax. Reveiving faxes are ok.

We can't send any fax, but we can still receive a fax. This happened suddenly without any changes (on device or our telephone line) When sending a fax it dials and gives a busy tone. After that we get a error sheet pointing out Error 388, communication error. Following things we did:- Tried sending fax on our other phone line to rule out broken phone cable/connections.- Called to phone and from phone to fax which worked.- Printed out T90 testsheet. All tests passed.- Tried faxing with ECM off or in other words turned off the error connection mode.- Tried faxing with lower connection speed setting.- Checked other settings to see if there was anything wrong, but all okay.- Powered off, disconnected power cable for at least 15 seconds. Is the fax broken or anything else we can try?

Hi , I see you have been troubleshooting an issue with your Officejet Pro 8600 no longer able to send faxes, and I think I may have found some more information for you. Can you specify your your exact printer model for me? In your post title you say it is an 'Office Jet Pro 8600 A910' but and A910 is an Officejet 8500A. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? Seems like an odd question, but the printer make a copy? It could be an issue with the scanner mechanism.
Is the printer connected directly to a wall outlet or is it in a surge protector or a power bar? We want to connect it to a wall outlet just so we can eliminate the power source as the root cause. See this document for more information about Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector (Note: This document is not limited to Laserjet printers.)
HP regularly releases firmware updates that may also correct the problem you are experiencing. You can click on this link to;Get Printer Updates for HP Officejet Pro 8600 (N911), Officejet 6600 (H711) and Officejet 6700 Premium (H711) e-All-in-One Printer SeriesGet Printer Updates for HP Officejet 6500A, and Officejet Pro 8500A e-All-in-One Printer Series Have you tried to run the Fax Test Report? It's usually located in the setup menu, under tools. The fax test report will let you know if it finds any problems and how to correct them. Once everything passes on the fax test report, you can Test Your HP Fax Machine with the HP Fax Test Service.  I reviewed the error code you provided from the Interpreting Error Codes in Fax Communication Error or Fax History Reports document.  Error 388: There is too much noise on the line for a valid connection between two fax machines to complete. The noise problem might go away over time. Retry the fax reception when telephone line conditions have improved. Call the telephone provider if line conditions fail to improve. Have you touched base with the phone company to make sure they have not changed anything on their end? Does this same error occur with every number you try to dial?  You could see if anything in Fax Sending Fails Intermittently or Fails for Only One Recipient is helpful as well.  Please let me know if these steps resolved your issue, or if there is anything else I can do to help.  I look forward to hearing from you!   Thanks,

  • HP Office Jet Pro 8500 Wireless carriage jam message.

I have an HP Office Jet Pro 8500 Wireless.  It is on a home wireless network and I am using a new HP laptop with Windows 7 (64-bit).  I am getting a carriage jam message that I cannot get removed.  Leading up to this, my son did have a paper jam and probably didn't get all the paper removed the first time around.  But I have checked thoroughly with a flashlight and there is now no paper anywhere in the carriage.  I have followed the video online and still have the same message and I can tell that the carriage is not moving side to side.  It stays over on the right side.   When the video talks about manually moving the carriage, I can move it very easily manually after I wiggle it a little and move it to the right a little.  Then it will move back and forth easily by hand.  I have tried to see if something is blocking it, but can see nothing.  But then when I try to print a test page, no luck.  I have reset it according to the video with no results.  I cannot print a test page from the touchscreen or from my computer.
I really like this printer and hope you can help me.
