hi Cheryl!
while the ipod is plugged in, check to see if it's showing up in "My computer".
if it is showing up there, see:
iPod for Windows: Fast user switching in Windows XP is not supported
iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes
but if it isn't showing up there, see:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear
iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes on Windows

You did install the latest iTunes (10.5) right?  If the problem was that iTunes does not see the iPod try:

  • How can I get my ipod to work with itunes?

When I connect my ipod classic into my new computer it seems that itunes does not recognize it. How can I get my ipod to work with itunes? I'm afraid to disconnect my ipod because the display is saying Do Not Disconnect.

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
4 Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

  • How can I get my iPod to work with its updater?

Hey all, I have a 4G iPod, and it isn't recognized by iTunes. I connect it to its dock, and open the updater. The updater freezes and won't work UNLESS I leave it alone, after a few minutes the updater recognizes an iPod, but not any information about it (like the serial number or software version). Knowing this, I have sucessfully restored my iPod, only to find that the same problem is still there. The iPod shows up in "My Computer", but I can't get into it. Also of interest, whenever I connect the iPod, AutoPlay immediately starts, and asks me what I want windows to do every time I connect the device, but it doesn't show me a list of options...perhaps AutoPlay is messing the iPod-iTunes connection up? Can anyone help? Tried tons of thing on the site already.

If you have Find My iPhone enabled, you can use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
Otherwise you need a working dock connector and computer wither iTuned and internet connection
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • Can't get video iChat to work at all

I have never been able to get the video going with another person. My built-in web cam works just fine on Yahoo!Messenger, but I can't get it started on iChat/AIM. The "invite to video chat" is not highlighted even though my buddy has his camera on and it works. There's no camera icon next to his name.
What am I not doing/doing wrong? The text chat works great.

For the No Sound issue try Repairing Permissions.
Also run the Cron scripts Cocktail or MacJanitor will do this. (it is in fact all MacJanitor does and it is Free)
This may help sort the camera issue.

I can't connect my ipod touch to a docking station.  The ends stick up on the docking station connection piece.  I believe that is what is preventing my ipod from sliding down all the way.  What am I doing wrong?

  • Can't get my iPod to work with iTunes

I have an iPod Touch 2 generation, and had to recently restore it, after it had done that I turned it on after it had been reset and it has the picture saying connect to iTunes, when I click to go onto it in iTunes it keeps saying Accessing iTunes store at the top, but does that for ages. Then I get the message after about 2 or 3 minutes saying Network session has times out. I've tried the obvious; rebooting, changing leads and ports and my network connection is fine. But still no luck
Any tops would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks, Harry

  • Can't get my IPOD to work like I expect

I've just bought an IPOD being an MP3 player user before. The IPOD is not working how I expect.
If I create a Playlist in ITUNES, from my MP3 library. I must download my whole 'My Music' library to the IPOD first.
This cannot be right all I want is a Playlist'
Basically do I have to 'Sync' my whole library onto my IPOD'?
I'm sorry if you think this is a stupid question but I cannot create Playlist's without downloading my whole library.
    Someone please put me right!

*Basically do I have to 'Sync' my whole library onto my IPOD'?*
No you can choose to the option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" instead of all songs and playlist or you can "Manually Manage songs and videos" and drag and drop what you want to the iPod:
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
    Managing content manually on iPod
*cannot create Playlist's without downloading my whole library.*
You can create the playlist or playlists you want then use a keyboard shortcut to prevent the iPod syncing, once you are connected you can then change the setting to selected playlists and select the ones you want to sync. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
When the iPod is connected click on it's icon to bring up the preference tabs, go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist(s) you just made from the selection and click Apply.

  • How can i get my ipod to work properly?

My ipod is not charging at all when connected to the adapter or to my mac. when i connect to the charger either the battery sign comes up with the connect to power symbol. or the apple sign keeps flashing on and off. it doesnt charge. I already tried to reset it but it doesnt let me. I need help?

I'm assuming from what you have said that your iPod is in recovery mode. This is the logo that says connect to iTunes. Hold the home and sleep button down for 10 seconds and the device will be in recovery mode.
Try plugging the iPod into a different computer with iTunes installed and you might be able to restore your iPod. If this doesn't work take it to an Apple store and they will be able to help you.
