  • Screen Recordings in QT won't quit. Can't get rid of them.

    Hi,
I tried out screen recording with QT. Now I have a couple of videos that I can't get rid of. They always come back no matter how I shut down QT. If I just press the red circle, QT stops working and this dialogue appears off screen:
(I can get it onscreen by playing with screen resolutions)
I however can't do anything from here on. I have also tried to export the files before quiting, but that only make QT crash.
How can I make these videos disapear? The machine I'm using is a video edit, and the videos include images from videos for our client, that I don't want to pop-up incase were in the edit with another client.  Were running a Mac Pro with OSX 10.8.3

I had a similar problem as I had gotten a hand-me-down 8130 that had some nice prismatic scratches in the screen.  I myself tried clear coat car polish (quite similar to toothpaste in abrasiveness) with no success.
Luckily I found a solution.    I bought Quixx Acrylic Scratch remover.  It was about $9 for the kit. I found the stuff at my local walmart in the automotive section, but I understand stocks vary greatly store to store.  Using the included cloth, I applied it and with lots of elbow grease removed the scratches.  Any prismatic/distorting effects are completely gone, and there is only the tiny smoothed out remnants of a few of the deeper marks.  I believe the product has both a micro-abrasive as well as chemical compontent that dissolves the plastic on a microscopic level to smooth out any corners that cause light refraction.
You will have to follow the instruction, and literally polish vigorously for 2-5 minutes with the included cloth and heavy pressure to get results.   I mean don't bear down with all your weight, as you don't want to break the housing or pop the screen cover loose, but don't just wipe lightly either.
And be sure to use the cleaner only on the transparent part of the screen.  It didn't seem to harm the painted sides of the display area, but I didn't actively polish them.    On the plastic surfaces (like the battery door) I found the clear coat polish worked fairly well.
I didn't have any need to use it, but I would avoid the sandpaper included in the kit.  If your scratch is deep, try the polish anyways first, and might need to polish more than once to get results.

  • Kmail2: can't get rid of an not working entry

    Hi,
after backing up my mails with offlineimap I tried to import the folder in Kmail2. I selected maildir at the access tab in the settings and chose the folder. I now have a folder called "akonadi_maildir_resource 01" but it contains nothing. I then deleted the maildir entry but the folder is still there, evena after rebooting.
    Questions:
    1. How can I get rid of this folder
    2. Why doesn't maildir work?

    Hmm, not really.
You could consider starting fresh... If you're up for it, make a backup of everything stored in akonadi somewhere, log out of kde and do this from a console:
    rm ~/.kde4/share/config/akonadi*
    rm -r ~/.local/share/akonadi
    rm -r ~/.config/akonadi
The first is the KDE configs directory and akonadi stores the setups of all failed and current resources you set up in the form of rc files. You'll be deleting any file that starts with akonadi there. Leave the other rc files untouched — all your kde settings are here.
The second directory is where akonadi stores its database and things like your emails. There are other directories in ~/.local/share like contacts, notes, local-mail that store various other info. You may or may not delete them. Calendars are stored in the old location (~/.kde4/share/apps/korganizer/), but you may have changed it to something else manually. These directories are optional. If you want to delete them, sure. If you don't, that works, too.
(I almost forgot this. If you want to really start fresh, you probably want to delete anything that starts with or contains "mail" in ~/.kde4/share/apps and ~/.kde4/share/config. These files will be kmail2's way of storing your identities and outgoing email accounts. They might cause some trouble later on, or they might not. I haven't tested without deleting them.)
The third directory is where akonadi stores its specific configuration files. With this done, akonadi should start at square one when you log in.
Now, you can carefully add each resource and hopefully, you won't have weird things happen.
When I had a rocky start with akonadi, I went in and deleted everything I could find that had anything to do with akonadi or its member applications. I deleted the config files and app directories of kmail, kmail2, kjots, korganizer, knotes, kabc(?) and everything that mentioned akonadi, emails, contacts, calendars, whatever in its name. I only did this once and the clean start did the trick for me.
Bonus: You can disable the nepomuk-akonadi nexus by deleting the nepomuk email feeder (usually, this is what people get irritated with) in akonadiconsole. You can re-add this resource at any time from there. Be careful with it as it's meant to be a dev tool and not for end users.

safari has installed shopping widgets that i can't get rid of-----things like pasta leads and flash shopper.....they are driving me crazy and i cannot find them on my computer or in safari to delete....please help

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. I don't recommend running it on older versions of OS X. It will do no harm, but it won't do much good either.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.
You may have started up in "safe" mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    PATH=/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/libexec;clear;cd;p=(1299 ' 0.5 0.25 50 1000 15 5120 1000 25000 6 6 5 1 0 100 ' 51 25600 4 10 25 5120 102400 1000 25 1536 475 40 500 300 85 25 20480 262144     Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:
    [Process started]
Part 1 of 8 done at … sec
Part 8 of 8 done at … sec
The test results are on the Clipboard.
            Please close this window.
    [Process completed]
The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it and go to the next step. You'll have incomplete results, but still something.
    12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak for themselves, not for me. The test itself is harmless, but whatever else you're told to do may not be. For others who choose to run it, I don't recommend that you post the test results on this website unless I asked you to.

  • Can't get rid of a TX - message keeps appearing and being processed by OSB

I have some sort of a poison message or TX I can't flush. Every 10 seconds I get a log message like the second one below, and the number of pending messages in multiple places and OSB proxy service messages processed keep climbing - all without producing any new messages on my part. I've tried deleting the default server store on the OSB managed server and the filestore for the JMS server. No luck.
When this first started happening, the error messages looked like the first one below. Something I did caused the change, I assume. However, it's the same TX ID throughout.
So, first, how can I get rid of this thing? It's driving me nuts and keeping me from closing out a POC.
Second, why is it happening? I have one suspicion - could it be because that somehow we configured mutiple domains with the same name for a distributed application? It's not my normal practice but it happened. These domains don't communicate directly, but there are domains that need to communicate with both. So I'm guessing the name ambiguity may be hurting us. Just a guess, though.
In this case, the sgosb domain's proxy service (this domain name is unique) is receiving messages from a queue resident in the pega_domain in Singapore and another proxy service is putting a message to another queue in the pega_domain in the UK. This is not in a single TX; the first proxy service forwards the message to a queue in the sgosb_domain, the second proxy service gets that message and puts it into the other pega_domain. It's an XA TX for each proxy service.
Just to make it more fun, the sgosb_domain has another proxy service reading from a different queue and forwarding it to a queue in the third pega_domain in the US.
TIA for any help or insight.
Oh yes, the OSB domain is WLS 10.3.4, while the pega_domains are WLS 10.3.2

    Tom,
Thanks! Succinct and easy to understand as ever.
Yup, that covers it - I had also just seen this in the docs after looking at atheek1's earlier response (thanks to him/her as well). It's covered almost as clearly there as you state it here (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11035_01/wls100/jta/trxcon.html).
While the ESB domains meet all of those requirements (except for cross-domain security configuration), each of the other two sets of domains (3 in each set) do not meet the naming uniqueness criteria for domain and server names; they do for JMS server names. I saw the store names in the TX identifier string as included resource, and assumed they might play a part - that's why I changed them. As you say, an unnecessary change. Oh well - it was an easy one.
My normal practice has been for unique names in the past, due to problems I had years ago with cross-domain JMS traffic in an earlier WLS version. I guess it's the wrong time to have forgotten that lesson.
Does anyone know of a quick way of changing a domain name quickly without rebuilding the domain? In the past WLST resulted in incomplete copies for me, is that still a problem? Server names are easy, just some global search-and-replace in the config.xml file (and in the management scripts, too)
    /Steve

    Hi there,
It sounds like you may need to hide these purchases in the iTunes Store in order to prevent them from displaying on the Apple TV. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • My friend's apple ID shows up when I want to update my Apps. How can I get rid of it and see my own instead?

On my iPhone I see my friend's Apple ID when I want to update my Apps and can't seem to login with my own. What's wrong? How can I get rid off my friend's ID and login with my own when I want to update or download apps? I went to Itunes Store in Setting and checked if my ID was still there, and it is so I have no idea what's wrong.

Just used her MacBook to unlock my iPhone as I was away from home. So she backuped my phone and restored it to allow the unlock to work. That's all.
I'm still not clear about what you mean about unlocking your phone. Normally, "unlocking" means entering the password if the phone is locked, which you should be able to do from the phone itself. If you want more help with this, you really need to take the time to furnish all the relevant details.
I have a MacBook Pro, and yes when I connect my iPhone on it it shows up in the devices list.
When you do that & click on the iPhone in the list, then click on the "Apps" tab at the top, do you see the apps you can't update listed there? If you click on the "Store" menu item does it show near the bottom that you are logged in with your own Apple ID?
As wjosten said, it sounds like one way or another, the apps you cannot update were obtained using your friend's Apple ID. You need to delete them from your phone & try buying them again. If they were in fact paid for with your own Apple ID you won't have to pay again; otherwise you will.

    Hi Sister Kate,
If you change the Apple ID you are using on an iPhone or other iOS device, there are several places you need to change it on the device. See this article -

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Error message can't get rid of

When I turn my itunes on I get a error message that reads the registry used by itunes drivers for importing and burning cds and dvds are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other cd burning sortware, please reinstall itunes. I did reinstall and it didn't work. Every thing works just fine but can not get rid of this error mesage.

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)
