I can't get rid of thanks for updating firefox or add-ons at start-up

Every time I start Firefox, in addition to my home page, I get "thanks for updating" pages from Mozilla, Colorful Tabs, No Script, and Undo Closed Tabs Button. I have tried all of the usual methods for getting rid of them (resetting home page, et al) and nothing works short of removing the add-ons (and that doesn't work for the Mozilla page!). It's not only annoying but it significantly slows Firefox down.
I love Firefox and have been using since its early days and I don't want to stop now but this inability to control it is frustrating and, frankly, disappointing. I do hope the trend to become more like other browsers does not gain speed; for many users, the very fact that Firefox was not like the others is what drew us to it in the first place.
I'd appreciate any help to solve my dilemma.

hello, this might happen when firefox is not able to properly save preferences in its profile folder. please try this: Click the ''menu ''button and then click ''help (?) > troubleshooting information > profile folder - "show folder"''. then a new window will open up. in this window look out for a file named '''user.js''' (it might be used to overwrite your custom settings). in case it is present , delete or rename this file and restart firefox afterwards.
for more information and other steps please also see: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]]

The voicemail system used for the iPhone is different from the voicemail system used on the rest of the Verizon Wireless network. When you activate the iPhone, you lose your saved voicemails from the other system. When you activate a non-iphone, you lose any saved voicemails from the iPhone voicemail system too.

  • There are several login keychain items I'd like to get rid of. I've deleted them but they come back after several hours. How can I get rid of them for good

There are several login keychain items I'd like to get rid of. I've deleted them but they come back after several hours. How can I get rid of them for good.

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select
              Change Settings for Keychain "login"
In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
    If the box marked
              Keep login keychain unlocked
    is not checked, check it.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

  • I can't get rid of firmware for WRT54RS flashed on WRT54GL router

Today I tried (unsuccesfull) to reset my router back to factory default.
Unfortunately I found that the IP address did not reset to factory default.
But I still can ping the device.
So I checked the firmware by logging into the device.
B.t.w the admin account credentials changed back to factory default.
First I checked the model of the router and compared that with the firmware within the device.
Then I found the mismatch, the device specs say it's a WRT54GL and the installed firmware says it's WRT54GS.
This seem to be some custom made firmware of some kind.
In the administration section, I found that the firmware update tab is missing.
I then googled for some methods trying to flash the device with the appropriate firmware.
At first I tried the 30/30/30 reset procedure, after reboot still the same settings, so no luck here.
Next I tried tftp with the appropriate firmware version.
After specifying the location of firmware, entering the device password (which happen to be the default due to earlier reset), I then hit the start button.
Some leds start to flicker, then after about 20 seconds the error text occur "unable to get a response from the server".
So I can't get rid of this mismatch firmware here.
    What do I do next?
    How about jtag?
Assumption is the cause of all misery

Hi wrtlinksys-user, you can try to do a funny reset on the router. To do it, just press and hold the reset button on the device for 30 seconds and when you reach 20 seconds while counting, simply unplug and replug the power adapter of the router. Update us if this will help you.

  • Can not get rid of cannot verify server identity pop up, how can i get rid of it for 3rd gerneration ipad?

how can I get rid of cannot verify server identity pop up on my new 3rd generation ipad?

A [http://www.google.com/search?q=Brookwood+Internist+Birmingham&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a Google search] shows the website, but it still doesn't load - it shows the Go-Daddy '''Want to buy this domain?''' page.
Using a DNS Lookup for that domain - http://68.178.232.100/ doesn't load that web site either. It shows '''This site is not currently available.'''
Might be a server problem where that website is hosted, a DNS problem, or an expired domain name ''(but when that happens the message is usually '''expired registration''')''.
Call your doctors office Monday morning and tell them that their website won't load. It's something that their webmaster needs to look into, along with their web hosting service ''(which I guess is Go-Daddy)''.

  • How can I get rid of a stuck update which will not install or cancel?

I asked for updates to add-ons. One update turned out to be for McAfee Site Advisor. I restarted the computer but after restarting the update shows as "This update will be installed when Firefox is restarted" even though it had just been restarted. I tried restarting again, twice, but there is no change. I tried to cancel the install but clicking on Cancel does nothing. So I cannot install the update and I can't get rid of it. What now? The other updates were OK.
    Firefox 3.6.20, XP Home/SP3.
    Thanks.

If files already have been downloaded then you need to remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.<br />
You can delete active-update.xml and updates.xml as well if present.
    C:\Documents and Settings\&lt;user&gt;\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
    (%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox)
If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 6.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Can't get rid of an unwanted update...

Since upgrading to Yosemite, I had the usual updates in the App Store for Keynote, Pages, etc.
But Apple Remote Desktop also showed up as having an upgrade even though I have the latest version.  I did not purchase ARD through the App Store, it was a boxed software with a license code.
I cannot get the badge to go away showing that ARD has an upgrade.  If I click on "Upgrade", it tells me that the software is either already installed, or was not purchased by this user ID.
How do I get rid of this annoying badge and indicator in the app store for an app that is already the latest version and doesn't need anything done to it?

    Welcome to AD!
You can't get rid of it, but you can ask iTS support to remove it from your download queue.
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/browser/
It might just be easier to let the thing download and then delete it, quite frankly.

  • Can I get rid of a firmware update?

I just downloaded the iMac G5 Sleep Light Updater and now there is a constant buzzing noise. I have just had to have the logic board replaced, and my iMac was finally quiet as a mouse, now I have this buzzing. Is there some way to get rid of the firmware update?
Any suggestions would me much appreciated!

    1.8 GHz iMac G5, 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   30gb iPod w/video

    Hello Kate:
I do not know of any way that you can 'uninstall' a firmware update. For that reason, I am super-cautious abput applying them myself.
A suggestion - take your Mac to the place that did the repair and tell them about the buzzing - it is possible that the firmware update is coincidental.

  • How can I get rid of Browser hijacker in Firefox and Chrome please?

I was on a website today and it was full of pop up ads. I think I might have clicked on something by mistake and all of a sudden my webpage was being redirected every time I tried to do something. The last one led me to a blank page with something about adcash.com in the url - it was just a url in the toolbar in a blank page. can anyone tell me how I can get rid of this? I have a Macbook 2011. I am new to Macbooks so I will need someone to explain the help simply. Many thanks in advance.

The pop up is likely due to malware ..
Run the removal tool here >    The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide
Very easy to use, it's safe, and only takes a minute or two.

  • Can't get rid of white bar in firefox

For the last few versions, I seem to have an annoying white bar that won't go away, in the tab section of Firefox. It is theme-independent, and won't go away no matter what theme or option I change. It also doesn't appear to be a plugin. Any idea how to get rid of it?
Here is a screenshot of it: http://i49.tinypic.com/11s2f5u.png
I should note I have a custom theme on windows, but it used to work fine for previous versions of firefox. The bar is also still present when firefox is started in safemode

Well, when tabs are in the title bar, the tab bar background changes to a gradient fill that appears to create a gap at the bottom:
    <br>background-image: -moz-linear-gradient(center bottom , rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.4) 1px, transparent 1px), -moz-linear-gradient(rgba(128, 128, 128, 0), activecaption 85%);
    <br>background-image: -moz-linear-gradient(center bottom , rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.4) 1px, transparent 1px), -moz-linear-gradient(rgba(128, 128, 128, 0), inactivecaption 85%);
It's a little too late here to experiment with a fix, but hopefully another forum contributor will be able to recommend a solution.
(When the window is not maximized, the background of the tab bar is transparent.)

  • Can't get rid of US English in Firefox

I downloaded FF 26 recently and although I specified the UK English download I still have US English as my default language when I switch away from German. I downloaded the UK dictionary but now it is only one of the three languages.
So, HOW do I get rid of this pesky US language (pack or dictionary), and how do I persuade FF to take UK English as my preferred language? I have had this problem since FF25.
I live in Thailand, by the way.

Well, yes, only problem is that US English isn't there, it is somewhere in the Mozilla register and I don't know how to get there. That's why I posted.

  • Can't get rid of Perian software update window in the center of my screen.

When I woke up my computer this morning, there was a Perian software update window right in the center of my screen.  I cannot get rid of it and don't want to install it.  No matter what I push...it won't budge.  My choices are Skip this version, remind me later or install update...as I said I don't want to install it...how do I get rid of it ?

Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
    Click on "Skip This Version."
If that doesn't get rid of it, hold the power button down until the MacBook shuts down. Then start up again.
