double click on it, highlights icon for a moment, and then nothing happens. not an internet connectivity issue. identical mac next to it does not have the problem. any ideas???

Can you open Safari in a different user account? (that will help to determine if it is a corrupt install or something systemwide).
Do you have any 3rd party add-ons for Safari? Try disabling them.

Lightroom opens fine initially, but when trying to open a different catalog it will go through the process but never reopen again. I can't get it to open at all until the computer is reset.

No error messages. It acts totally normal but just never reopens when I try to reopen a new catalog. I create a catalog for each of my clients....I have done this since I started using lightroom as it seems tidy to me. But, I have never had this problem until now. I have a Powerbook GR at OS 10.4.11. I can't get Safari to open!

I've tried downloading different versions with no luck. How can I get it to download and function? What version do I need and how do I get rid of the old one?

Only Safari 4.1.3 will work with Tiger 10.4.11:

If your Safari won't open, one or more of the following procedures should fix it:
1. Go to Home/Library/Safari/ folder and remove the following two files:
history.plist
lastsession.plist
(Safari may not load properly If these two files are corrupted.)
and also go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete the file com.apple.Safari.plist
2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari/ and remove the [i]contents[/i] of that folder.
(These are just webhistory files and are not required for Safari to run. However, similar to preference files, problems can arise if they have become corrupt.)
3. Locate the cookies.plist file that's located in the Home/Library/Cookies/ folder and remove it.
(Again, faults in stored cookies may interfere with Safari's launch.)
4. Check whether any of your third-party internet plug-ins may be interfering with the launch of Safari by carefully moving them to the desktop (do NOT delete them at this stage). You can find these in two places:
Home/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ folder, and Global plug-ins are located in the Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/ folder.
Also look in Library/Input Managers where other third party add-ons may lurk. If you find a SIMBL folder, please note that some SIMBLE.bundles may require updating or possibly removal. More information on third party add-ons here:

Restart Safari and place them back in the correct folders, one at a time, closing and re-opening Safari each time. If you discover that one of them was causing the problem with launching Safari, trash it and download and install a fresh copy.
Note also that Safari does not accept any third party tool bars not supplied as part of authorised extension. If you have installed any of these, delete them, or post back for instructions on how to do so.

Can't get safari to open with home page

I have set google as my homepage in Preferences, but Safari invariably opens with the last page I had used before quitting. I've tried both "Set as Current Page" (being on google, of course), as well as typing in google's URL.
Any suggestions?

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, copy and paste the following:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the Trash
Try resetting your home page.

Do you have the latest FaceBook app version installed?
If so, try a reset which is similar to a computer restart and is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release.

Software update, and now I can't get Safari to open.

I have a 15", late 2007 Macbook Pro. I'm running 10.6.8, and I believe the update was to Safari 5.1.1. Last month, the same thing happened. Luckily, I was staying near an Apple store. They had to reinstall the OS. I haven't tried that yet, because I have the discs for Leopard, but not Snow Leopard (I was upgraded to SL at the store another time, because they did not have Leopard there). I've spent the entire morning do all that I can think to do, as wells as suggestions from other people on this board. I've tried reinstalling and restarting, I've installed the security update, tried checking folders for 3rd party plug-ins and such with no luck. If anyone could offer any help, I would greatly appreciate it! The closest Apple store is an hour from home & I don't typically have the time to get there before they close. Thank you!

Reinstall Safari 5.1.1
If that doesn't help install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo. It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.6.8.
Restart your Mac after installing software.

I can't get Firefox to open at all. Anybody else having this problem?

FF just won't open when I click on it. In task manager, it shows up in background processes only. I am running windows 8.1 on a laptop. I have tried restarting the machine, I have (several times) tried to uninstall and reinstall FF. When I look in the support section, I keep running into help that is predicated on having a FF window open, which is not happening at all, so there is not help there. I'm at my wit's end and I am sooo not fond of IE or chrome. Thanks for any help you can provide!

I can't get firefox to open at all. I can't get it open to do anything on the firefox window such as open it in the safe mode.

A small screen tells me firefox was shutdown and windows was looking for a solution. I deleted Firefox and downloaded another Firefox program and installed it. The same thing happened. What do I do. Windows said it could be a DEP problem. I have no idea what that is. I can open Windows Explorer and use but I don't really like it. Help!!!

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.

*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

I can't get iTunes to open at all!

when i click on itunes, a window pops up and says "itunes has encountered a problem and had to close"
what does that mean?
i've tried re-installing and it doesn't work, it's been like this for a day or so.

I jacked my computer at one point and did a couple system restores in one day and for whatever reason, after I'd reinstall iTunes, it still would not load. So what I did was use the search feature and found all the iTunes files -- they are scattered all over your hard drive. Uninstall iTunes using the add/remove programs through the control panel, then do that search (click on start, then use the search feature), then download iTunes again. I don't know if that will work, but it's a good place to start. I would NOT do a system restore if you can avoid it.

How can I get Safari 5.1.2 to automatically open pdf files on web pages by using Adobe Reader?

Safari 5.1.2 always opens pdf files on web pages as a single frame and thus it will not print properly. How can I get Safari to open all pdfs with Adobe Reader 10.1.1?

Alas, I have tried that. I have also done this complicated uninstall and reinstall process. I have figured out in my battles with iTunes today that it will open when I am not connected to the Internet but as soon I turn on the wifi and go the iTunes store, iTunes crashes again.
