I can't get Wifi on my iphone 3g - but I can't back the phone up
Ok, this sounds like a problem that only a complete numpty would have (hands up, that's me).
Here is my issue: I have an old iphone 3G that a friend gave to me - (primarily to use for Wifi as I don't have a computer and I needed to access the internet). For a while (a week) it worked FINE and then all of a sudden my phone will NOT connect to any wifi network. It just brings up a message that says 'cannot connect to this network'.
I have turned the airplane mode on and off
I have restored network settings (several times)
I have turned the divice on and off
and I have checked for new software updates on my friends computer - but apparently we're all good there *(even though the muppet in the apple store was like ' oh, you've got old software we're up to 5 now just update it - given that she couldn't find itunes on an ipad, I'm inclined to think she knows not much more than me).
I know the natural thing would be to reset the phone but I DONT want to lose all my contacts / photos / messages etc.
I don't want to Sync the phone to my friends computer cos it would mess up all her contacts etc. as she syncs her phone to her computer.
I'm a bit stuck.

An iPhone 3G can only be updated to iOS 4.2.1...that's the end of the line for that model iPhone. If that's the iOS already on your phone, there are no further updates available.

Hi thanks for your reply,I go to settings and touch wifi which says not connected.Then the screen changes to wifinetworks,at the top of the screen.The on/off box shows blue ON.the choose a network search spins for about 3 seconds but never finds the wifi house network.the ask to join networks box show blue ON.I have tried entering my wifi details in this box but no joy,a dark blue box appears saying could not connect to this network.

I was always able to get WiFi on my iPhone through my home computer. Then all of a sudden it went out (uses 3G network instead of WiFi). Sometimes it would connect back to WiFi for a few seconds then back to 3G. I then decided it was the modem so I got a new modem. Well, I have no problem getting internet on my home computer but cannot still get WiFi on my iPhone from my computer. What do I need to do - HELP!!

Yes, it worked. First, I just replaced the all info. as before, the router IP also (Stupid) , not success.
So, I created the new network, then, the Router IP automatically showed up .
I think the old setting still there under my Airport station (so, 2 setting right now)?
Anyway, my iPad and iPod touch works well with the new wi-fi network.

no what I meant was I have read through what information it gave me when I asked the question and other than checking my wifi or checking my iMessage is on or checking my number and email address was correct I didn't think that the information applied to my specific problem so that is why I asked the question? I asummed it would be something simple and silly that I am doing wrong. I have not spoken to any technicians, I am new to this site and you can probably tell I'm not that knowledgable with technology so I apologise if I have put you out, I don't feel your rudeness or your sarcasim towards me was necessary. Don't worry I will go into an apple shop and ask instead.

Can you get wifi hotspot with iphone 5
i would really like wifi hotspots but the problem is i cant find it on my setting menu, how can i get it and also i am on tesco mobile uk lol
You mean "Personal Hotspot" ?
If you do not have the setting menu then the Hotspot is probably not supported by your Telephone company or by your Data Plan.
Or your phone does not connect to WiFi ? -
I can't even switch the wifi button to try and connect to my wifi at home but my iPad still uses the wifi just fine.
Thank you, I am trying to last option now. Resetting my network settings and if that still doesn't work ill have to go in to the apple store. Hopefully I won't need a new phone because I'm already at my limit with replacements on my AppleCare even though the issue with the phones 3 out of 4 times wasn't my fault and I can't afford to buy another phone.

I have bought a Idjay system and I have the App on the 4S phone however the phone is not aknowledging the system. After googling we found that their is an issue with IOS7 for this system. So we tried an Itouch, its on IOS6 but doesnt work. Then tried an Ipad but the first version. Thought we had success when the Ipad seen the system connect to it. However I then went to download the App onto the Ipad but it needs IOS6 onwards and as its the first model of the Ipad the latest version is 5.1.1 so I cant download the App...
Any suggestions? do you know how to get the 4S phone to work with it as that would be the ideal scenario?

Start by setting it up as new device, without using the latest backup to restore your settings: How to back up your data and set up as a new device
If your "other" section is bigger than 1GB, there have been problems during the sync process and some data got damaged. Only a restore can reduce the size back to normal again. -
I remembered it after a while and got in to my phone, but it was already deleted and won't activate I tried with and without iTunes what should I do now? Please help my, I need help fast!

Someone gave me a airport express router. it works great with my macbook but when i try to connect via wifi to my iphone it says it can't be set up by "this software". Where can I download whatever software my iphone needs so I can get wifi?
Per chance is your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) an 802.11g model? If so, that is why you are getting this error message from the AirPort Utility running on the iPad. You would need to use either version 5.6 or 5.6.1 running on a Mac or a PC to administer this base station.

I am having trouble with my wife's new iPhone 5s. She can receive her telus email but can not send any email what did I do wrong in setting up her account on her iPhone? I tried to just copy the info from her old iPhone.
The sending of email is accomplished via the SMTP server. Take a moment to get back into Settings>Mail, contacts, calendars and select the account. Go to the SMTP server and check to make sure that username and password are entered in all of the appropriate places. If you cannot get it to work after trying to just change those settings, remove the account from the phone and recreate it. When recreating, make sure you enter the username and password in every location, even if the phone says optional. Make sure you have the settings from either the email provider or from the other device. Make sure that SSL is on or off as necessary.

I can't get WiFi sync to work - connected to university network

I have a MacBook Pro. My mac can detect wifi. But will not connect anywhere. I did get connected via TCP/IP settings but I can't connect to any wifi anywhere. Network diagnostic has a green light for wi-fi and wi-fi settings. Red light for the rest. (Network settings, ISP, Internet and server.)

Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like the computer wont connect to networks. I see you have used network diagnostic. I would recommend that you read this article, there are a lot of other things you can do in this article that may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

I was trying to get the iOS 8.2 on my iPhone 5 but then it stopped and my phone is now on recovery mode I have pictures I need and they did not all fit on iCloud how can I use the phone again with ALL my pictures and videos without restoring it?
Contacts are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.
Pictures taken with the device are designed to regularly be copied off the device to a computer as would be done with any digital camera.
If you have failed to use the device as designed it may be too late to recovery anything.
Is the device regularly backed up to a computer via iTunes? If so, the most recent backup (when restored to a replacement iOS device) should contain all contacts and pictures as of when the backup was created.
