I can't hear my calls. My phone is stuck on headphone mode
I Have an I Phone 4 S and it is stuck on headphone mode. i don't have headphones connected, but I'm unable to hear my calls. How do I turn the headphone mode off?
Hello, Hethmarti
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that your iPhone indicates that it is stuck in headphone mode. Try connecting a set of headphones and removing them. You may need to repeat this procedure multiple times. If this does not resolve the issue try the additional troubleshooting steps in the attached article below.
If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker

Dropped phone and stuck on headphone mode
Ok I dropped my iPhone while listening to pandora but I didn't have my headphones in. When it fell my speakers got a little wet and now I can't hear anything because my iPhone is stuck on headphone mode. Can anybody help me get off that mode????
If no change after inserting and removing your earbuds or headphones several times in a row, your iPhone has hardware damage from the drop and from getting wet.

Can't hear my caller after I remove my iphone headphones
Has anyone else had this problem?
you are listening to your music using th iphone headphones, then you remove your headphones from the iphone, when you get a call you can't hear the caller and they can't hear you. I discovered that the only way to fix this problem is to re-insert the headphone and click the mute button on the headphone! It seems that when you use the headphones and click mute and then remove your headphones it remains stuck on mute, not allowing you to be heard on an outgoing or incoming call!!!!!
What's up with that this? is my second iphone and it has happened to both my phones. It's a good thing I had my headphones with me, otherwise my phone would be useless or worse yet if it was an emergency I would not be able to call 911!That is the solution so far other than a restore.
FWIW It worked with a Belkin audio cord as well. I tried it a few times in and out with no luck.
Here's what worked for me:
1. Start ipod and pause on a song.
2. Insert cord or headset.
3. Hit play.
4. Hit Pause.
5. Remove cord or headset.
6. Hit play....
After (6) it didn't do much but then I noticed the volume slider grab a life of its own. When it settled down... all was working again.
What a pain in the rear.
Apple if you reading this fix it. I happened to get stuck at work after listening to music the night before... when I tried to make a call, guess what. All day without audio.

My phone is stuck in headphone mode and nothing is working! Help!
My IPhone 4S is stuck in headphone mode. I have tried everything from putting my phone in rice overnight, blowing and sucking air in the headphone jack, and hard resetting it but nothing is working! Please help!!
Hello manhay,
The following article provides some additional troubleshooting that can help restore audio to your iPhone's speaker.
Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, follow these troubleshooting steps.
Restart the iPhone.
If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
If the issue is not resolved after restoring the iPhone software, please contact Apple Support.

I am trying to raise the volume on my phone, but it is saying that the headphones are attached when they are not attached. How do I fix this?
I tried everything there was. I tried to plug and unplug, I tried to clean it and dry it, and I really didn't want to put my phone in a bag of rice for 12 or 24 hours because I wasn't very patient. So what I did was; I put my phone on headphone mode and put it on airplane mode, then I left it there for 5 minutes and turned airplane mode off and it was working!!!! Hope this helped.

Can anyone help me with my phone being stuck in recovery mode? I have looked all over the internet and have had no success. I have not tried to restore it with Itunes, because my data is not backed up and I don't want to lose it. Tinyumbrella would not work and the apple support website is completely useless!
Thanks, I figured that out, so I went ahead and restored it, which also didn't work! It gave me an error 3194, which I also can't figure out.

my phone is stuck in headphone mode and the headphones are not plugged in
Try inserting and removing the headphones several times in a row to release the mechanism that is stuck indicating the headphones are inserted when they are not.

Any idea why I can only hear a caller when I'm using speaker phone?
Does anyone know why I can only hear a caller when I am using speaker phone?
Hi goodferg,
The troubleshooting steps below may help you with the sound issue you are having with your iPhone 4:
iPhone: Can't hear through the receiver or speakers
Resolution
Verify that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack, including headsets, headphones, or adapters.
Make sure the Ring/Silent switch is not switched to silent.
While on the Home screen, adjust the volume buttons. If you see the icon below, indicating that headphones are attached, there may be debris or an object lodged in the headset jack:
Check the headset jack. If there is an object lodged in the headset jack that is not easily removed, have the iPhone serviced to remove object.
For Original iPhone: If there is light debris, such as lint, in the headset jack, try connecting a pair of headphones to the headset jack and then remove the headphones. Repeat this several times to remove the debris.
If you have installed a protective film on the display, either ensure that the receiver is not covered or remove the film completely.
Check the receiver mesh (which is on the top front of the device, above the display). If it appears blocked, use a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush to carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If you have paired with a Bluetooth headset that is nearby, either use the headset or turn Bluetooth off (chooseSettings > General > Bluetooth).
Restart the iPhone.
If restarting the iPhone doesn't resolve the issue, try restoring the device.
If the issue persists, go to the Service Answer Center - iPhone for information on service.
Hope this helps!

Hi saintmary82,
If you are having a hard time hearing people through the receiver, take a look at the article below for some suggestions to get it sorted out. Start with cleaning the receiver and making sure your iPhone is up to date. If you continue to have issues, then you may want to contact Apple Support for further assistance.

Does anyone have Suggestions on improving my earpiece? Can;t hear the caller when I call someone or they call me?
I have had this happen to me on 3GS, 4 and 4s. Usually the solution is one of the following:
1- If your volume indicator says headphones even though they are not plugged in, then:
Stick your headphones into the headphone jack and then remove quickly.
2. If that does not work Power your phone off. Then when restarting Reset the phone by pressing the home button and the power button at the same time until the apple logo appears.
3. Make sure you have not chosen to send audio to an Airplay device such as Apple Tv.
Hope one of these works for you -

My earpiece turns on and I can't hear the call I just placed. I am not sure what I touch that activates this crazy earpiece. It is driving me crazy.
Hello to you Wildone007!
Let's get this earpiece away from the looney bin! SuzyQ asked some phenomenal questions (thank you!) Waht type of earpiece are you using and what phone model do you have?
We can figure this out together!
Thanks,
