I can't input foreign language on MAC OS 9

Hello all. I need some help, my boss has a G4 originally running on 9.0.4 in Icelandic. he updated to 9.2.2 and then we decided to upgrade to OS X (10.3.9) but we have a problem. at First classic environment wouldn't start displaying a window that said "Classic doesn't have the translated versions of the files it needs to update in System Folder" i looked for help on this issue but I was very unlucky, couldn't find any answers at all. Therefore, what we ended up doing was copying the Entire System Folder from antoner MAC running OS X where classic did'n have a problem to start up. But now, we've encountered a series of problems, the most important one is that when we run OS 9 applications, the original icelandic fonts are not loaded and what's worse you can't even input icelandic text onto the applications anymore. BUT if you restart the computer on 9.2.2 you DO get the little Iceland Flag and are able to type and manage icelandic fonts with no problem. My question is, is there anyone out there who could give me a hint on how to solve this. I have tried every search engine and returned emptyhanded.
Thank you very much.
Please reply!

It is possible that it actually doesn't work.
As far as I remember, to type in Icelandic in MacOS 9 you had to install some sort of a hack which only was available from Apple Iceland.
It could be that this modification of the OS is not compatible with Classic mode of MacOS X.
However, if it really isn't possible, I think the guys at http://www.apple.is/index.php?option=com_contact&Itemid=3 would be able to tell you so.

    Hi....Found this info.
    1) Choose any application which 'has to slim'
    2) Option-Drag the application to any location you like (in order to create a backup copy of the application in case anything goes wrong)
    3) Control-Click on that program's icon
    4) Select 'Show Package Content'
    5) Go to Contents -> Resources
    6) Remove '.lproj' folders related to languages you don't speak (e.g. 'Dutch.lproj' or 'Japanese.lproj' folders)
    You are done. Now double click the application: in case it doesn't run, you can restore the application from the location where you saved it before (step 2).

  • How can I input Japanese Language into Curve 8330?

    Please teach me how to do this...
    I have been trying to install this since I bought Curve 8330 last year.
    Please somebody,,, please...

    You're in luck!  Out of the 20 RIM hosted sites (and Verizon), only Reliance has "East Asian" for the 8330 - both v4.3 and v4.5!  Download it from here.
    Once you've downloaded and installed it, and assuming Reliance is NOT your carrier, rename or delete the file
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\Vendor.xml
    Also, if you're using Desktop Manager v4.7 make sure you have NOT installed the update module.  If you have, disconnect your network connection or DM will download an updated Vendor.xml and not allow the Reliance OS on your device.
    You should find Japanese Language support when you install the OS.  NOTE: If your device already has OS v4.3.0.124 or v4.5.0.66, use that.  You'll avoid actually installing the OS and just install the language packs.

  • Problem with charsets for foreign languages

    hi
    i have a problem with a webapplication
    in my webapplication i have some code that gets data from a webpage of another webapplication. This other web application can use many foreign languages
    the problem is that those foreign languages contain some special characters, and those special chars aren't displayed the right way
    this is the code to get the data from the other webapp
    private static StringBuffer getContent(String sUrl) throws MalformedURLException, IOException  {
            StringBuffer content = new StringBuffer();
            URL url = new URL(sUrl);
            HttpURLConnection httpURLConn = (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection();
            httpURLConn.setRequestProperty("charset", "utf-8");
            BufferedReader buffReader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(httpURLConn.getInputStream()));
            String inputLine;
            while ((inputLine = buffReader.readLine()) != null) {
                content.append("\n" + inputLine);
            return content;
        }as you see , i tried to set the encoding to UTF-8 but that did not solve the problem

    my adobe illustrator is in a foreign language. how can i turn it into english?

    First please remember this is a public forum.  If you are going to respond to the thread via e-mail please remove your signature prior to responding.
    To resolve your difficulties you will need to go to the Language & Text preference pane.  Once there click on Edit List and remove all languages besides English.  You will then likely need to remove and reinstall the trial as the language setting I believe is set during the installation process.

    Composite is analogue with one connector. That is why it is called composite
    Component is analogue with three connections. I think one for each color
    Here is the one for component. I misread composite for component

  • How can I remove a Input device from my Mac?

    Hello, I would like to know how I can remove a input device from the Sound area in System Preferences. I installed Wiretap Anywhere a sound input program for my Mac and did not realize It was not supported for Moutain Lion. I put the application in the trash and then emptied the trash can. Now whenever I try to start GarageBand or a program like that it crashes my computer. In the Input tab of Sound (System Preferences) It is listed as Wiretap: System Audio.
    I would like to remove this from the Input tab so I can use my Mac reguarly. Any Ideas on how to fix it?
    Thanks,
    Justin

    Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
    Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
    Here are some general guidelines. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickYourMac.” First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickyourmac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickYourMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickYourMac.” If not, open “BrickYourMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.
    You may have to log out or reboot in order to complete an uninstallation.
    If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase your boot volume and perform a clean reinstallation of OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
    Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" that purport to remove software.

  • Why can't Preview search in a foreign language?

    I have a long .pdf document in Russian but find, as in the past, that words placed in Preview's search bar always get no hits.
    If Preview can display a text in a foreign language, why can't it search for words in that language?

    Try Adobe Reader instead of Preview.
    The basic problem is that the pdf format is not reliable for searching, and sometimes even copy/pasting non-Latin text.  Depending on how it is produced, the internal representation of the text can easily become useless garbage.

  • How can i set predictive text to a foreign language

    I'm new to apple and iPhones. I've got everything setup in English but I frequently want to send text and/or email messages in French. When I do this predictive text jumps in and changes things to what it thinks I want in English. e.g. if I type tous it predicts I want toys and inserts it accordingly. How can I set predictive text to a foreign language.
    (p.s. my wife's iPad works fine as it has a button to press for alternative language but I don't see anything similar for iPhone)

    Add the French keyboard.
    Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add > French

    (1) My iBooks Author help resources are in a foreign language. How do I change it to English? (2) Is there an iBooks Author pdf manual I can download?

    There is no PDF available. I sent a link  to a page full of links and info not much different from the help files.
    There are many Free books in the iBooks store which will take you through the basics of iBA.
    I  like "Create your first Interactive book using iBooks Author"   its created by iBook-Widgets.com - who also  supply widgets at a price.. but the book is very free and very good.. search the iBooks store for their title.
    You cannot use iBA on an iPad, however, I also use the iPad app --  "Book Creater"   ( redjumper.net ) its very low priced around $3 or so. The people who  create it are helpful and friendly. You can distribut your books to friends and family  using  Dropbox or other cloud storage. If you want to creaet an ePub file and then upload to the iBooks store, its not difficult.  You create the book on your iPad. It is no where near as good as iBA for functionality.. but it spossible to  make really good eBooks.
    I think Applecare shoud come into effect with the language problems if it can be  found to be a glitch on the computer.  Applecare is product based and does not apply to software.
    Take it stage by stage,   visit your Apple store and   ask if they can solve the help files in langauges first, then  react to the answer, it could be they can solve the issue which leave you a clear path with iBA.
    Also you can  gather more indormation about how to use it with the help files.
    Try the info I have  included and   see how it develpops... any problems get back here and we can look for alternatives.
    try this... https://itunes.apple.com/app/id661166101?mt=8&&referrer=click%3Da63089e4-e3d4-49 e9-896a-58e0cfd50acf
    its the free version... if you like upgrade later.

  • How can I filter or block foreign language emails or email addresses

    How can I filter or block foreign language emails or email addresses??
    TIA
    C

    Most email clients have a provision to create a 'rule'. The rule examines the email as it is received. In generally you can search for specifically senders, recipients,subjects, or specific content words in the body. Based upon the findings of the rule, you can do something with the email (such as end it directly to the Trash).
    For example if you know where all of valid you emails come from, you can create a rule that checks the from field for an acceptable sender and sends those email's that to the inbox, while sending all emails from other senders to the trash or spam folder
    Keeping out foreign language emails is often difficult because because often it is difficult to come up with a rule that will catch them on the basis of language they are written in.
    There are also commercial products that can scan incoming email and 'score' the email based upon content, and you decide at what 'score'  you want the mail sent straight to the trash or spam folder. Verizon's spam filter does this based upon Verizon's scoring system, and actually does catch a lot of spam. It also occaisonally catches things that are not spam however....
    Hope that is helpful

  • Foreign language input on "Solaris 10"

    Hello.
    I installed "Solaris 10" via 5 CD's (minus the 6th, Languages CD).
    My question is in what way can the GNOME desktop present an indicator of a language other than English?Via Preferences>Keyboard Layout I added Serbian, German and Bulgarian (it seems tha under my configuration four is the maximal number of languages I can add).The system did not reported any failure or error.
    However, I do not know how to enable the keyboard to make inputs in Cyrillic alphabets (Serbian and Bulgarian) or in German latin.
    There is no indicator present in the bottom panel, neither is one to be founded under items that may be added to the panel.
    As you all know, even the feeblest of Linux distributions and all Windows distribution do provide a multilanguage support, available usually via icon that may be swithched or expanded into menu.I would be most surprised that a serious OS like Solaris would fail to provide such a simple solution to the needs of its users worldwide.
    Thus I believe that the mistake is on a me: did I made a mistake by not selecting all those languages , or some of them (thinking that these are only files for regionalization of the GUI) or is there some other way, with or without the sixth CD, to establish an easy method for prompt switching among languages for keyboard input on the Solaris's GNOME-like desktop?
    Can anybody of you could kindly explain me what is the issue here.
    Thank you.

    Thank you.serveral questions -
    did you choose to install the locales you are referring to ?
    if so, can you login to the terninal and choose one of those locales
    and when you are in the gnome session, in the terminal if you
    type echo $LC_ALL, it shows you the value for those locales ?
    when typing xset q - what are the results - part of those results
    shows the font path, and that is needed to be set for the fonts
    to be found, though if locales are installed and you login to the
    locale, that is set for you.
    from that terminal can you input the characters of that locale, using
    the key combinations that are needed ?
    or could it be the 6th CD is needed, that it might have the locale info
    and fonts for the locales you are referring to ?
    Please send this addtional information when you can.

  • HT2242 I can't read which is Edit or Preferences!!! duh! its in a foreign language!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

    Can someone please help as apple itunes support would not accept my serial number which I entered correctly.  Why does everything have to be sooooo difficult?  I downloaded itunes and unistalled and installed several times with the same problem.  Agreement comes up in a foreign language.  I must have clicked the right one but now I can't work out which is Edit and Preferences or know how I click on Australian english from the language on the screen. Please helppppppppp...................

    "Edit" is the second menu counting from the left.
    "Preferences" is the bottom item in the Edit menu.
    In the leftmost preferences tab, go down to the drop down menu at the bottom of the tab. Counting from the top, English UK is the 8th entry in the list.
    Click the leftmost of the two buttons in the bottom-right-hand corner of the tab. (That's the OK button.)
    Now restart iTunes. Are you back in English?
