I'm pretty sure I got it in early 2008 ...  Here's the Hardware overview, without the serial number:

    Yes, you can.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements

             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later

  • Can I install a SSD in a Mac Pro 1,1?

Is it possible to install a SSD in a Mac Pro 1,1 2 x 3GHz Dual core?
    On reading this:
    http://macperformanceguide.com/Mac-InstallingSSD.html#Installing_MacPro
it seems it is, but when I contacted Crucial memory they didn't seem to think it was.
I was hoping to install in my second optical drive.
    Have you tried it?
    Any advice gratefully received.
    May thanks

The bays in the Mac Pro 1,1 [and 2,1 and 3,1] are directly wired for ATA/IDE Optical drives.
But there are two connectors nearby on the motherboard labeled "ODD" (for Optical Disk Drive) SATA connectors (no power).
    This kit:
Newer Technology eSATA Extender Cable Adapter for Mac Pro - Add 2 eSATA ports!
provides the required data cables (slightly different  from each other at the motherboard end). Then you need only adapt the existing 4-pin Molex power to your SSD and you are in business.
A 30GB SSD is very tight for Mac OS X alone (no User files) 60GB is okay, 120GB is fine, as long as you are not attempting to use Windows on the same drive and have your User files on another drive.

  • Can't Install Fresh OS X on Mac Pro

    Hi there,
I recently bought a used Mac Pro 1,1 2,66Ghz, running on OS 10.5 (leopard). After buying it i found out there were no installlation discs. Found an original "Mac Pro" pair on Ebay for leopard.
Waiting on the installation discs i already installed my upgrade for snow leopard and my Logic Studio. It all worked fine.
Tonight i tried to do a fresh install for this mac (received the original install dvds'). Inserted the install dvd, selected the requested language and all of a sudden it tells me that "it is not possible to install OS X on this computer". Thats odd !! I checked the startup disc, and opened Disk Utility to see if there was anything why i can't install. Found out there was a partition running on the HD, so i deleted the partition. Tried to install it again but it still tells me i can't install OSX. it can't even locate the HD anymore so the ony thing i can choose from now is to start up from the install dvd (which doesn't work) or through a network.
I've read some topics on this forum about some related issues, but honestly that doesn't say anything to me. I'm hoping somebody can explain to me what's going on.
To make things clear, here is the model and equipment. As far as i can tell it is the original set up as how it came out of the factory (exept for the Ram)
    Model: Macpro 1,1 (MA356LL/A)
Processor: Intel Xeon 5100 series 2x2,66Ghz Dual Core
    Harddrive: 250GB
    Media: Superdrive
    RAM: 4 GB (4x1GB)
Graphic Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT 256MB
As i mentioned, OS 10.5 was on it when i bought it. I've upgraded it to 10.6.4 thru original apple software and it worked well.
    Thanks in advance
    Coen

Would like to have it complete with my Mac.
First, get the serial number of your Mac. One way is to go to the Apple at the upper left and choose "About This Mac". By default, the version number of the installed OS shows up just above the "Software Update" button. Click on the OS version number. It will rotate between that, the build number of the OS, and your serial number.
Then call Apple's customer service and request getting replacement disks for your Mac. Provide the serial number so they can get you the correct set, if they have any left.

  • Can I install bootcamp on my oldish Mac Pro?

    background--- https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4760740
I have an old Mac Pro running OS X 10.6.8 and I want to install Windows. The machine was built 1-4-18 Oct 1996 in Ireland.
from the other thread dalstott of NC said
"I looked up the document you refered to at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3986. It is in conflict with the Installation manual which I copy below. I would suggest to go over to the Mac Pro community and try to get some clarification.
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/desktop_computers/mac_pro"
Any suggestions as to whether it will work?
    thanks

    It . What is it?
Windows 7 Pro does not install off the DVD without extra steps.
The forum and support for Boot Camp are where and worth reading
    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp
Our (mine also) will not boot off Windows Vista or lalter 64-bit without altering the EFI boot routine that requuires EFI64 (Mac Pro 2008+)
It will work, after it is installed and yuou get around the problems and the boot prompt

  • I installed bootcamp 4.0 4033, installed window 32 bit but can't install the drivers for some reason i keep getting error message. i have a macbook pro mid 2011 version. Please help

I installed bootcamp 4.0 4033 so that I can install windows 7 32 bit on my mac.  Everything works fine until I try to install the drivers and I get an error message stating the version of windows does not work with the drivers I am trying to install.  I have a feeling somehow I am downloading 64 bit drivers when I need 32 bit.  I spoke to Apple and they said I can't use 32 bit windows.. but that is not what the support site says (it says I can as long as I use bootcamp 4, not 5).  Also, my bootcamp assistant is version 5.. I have no idea if that matters.  Help please.. been searching online for hours.

  • Can't Launch Illustrator CS6 on my Mac and keep getting message to install Java SE 6

When I try to launch Illustrator on my Mac, it asks me to install legacy Java SE 6 every time. Even after installing Java SE 6, it still doesn't open up and keep asking me to install legacy Java SE6. How can I get Illustrator to open without this message?

i got stuck trying to understand the nuts & bolts of this post too but the answer is here on post #7 link in creating the two folders manually or by the Terminal routines
i put screenshots on my thread of the column views Pls just tell me how - CS6 Yosemite Java
as post #9 said, i am pretty sure you just manually create the new folders in the locations, give them the suggested names, and the OS will do the rest but i did mine through Terminal...
as a final redundant note, u probably don't want to install the legacy JAVA 6 on the Apple link because it's old, go to https://www.java.com/en/download/mac_download.jsp?locale=en  and install the latest version of JAVA (and be sure to update it in the future in case apple/adobe software updates don't find it for u)

  • Installing 10.6.4 on Mac Pro

I have a MacBook Pro running 10.6 and a Mac Pro running 10.5.8.
Can I install 10.6 on the Mac Pro from the Installation DVD that came with the laptop or does Apple require me to buy the software twice?

The gray DVD that came with the laptop is machine specific and will only work with that Mac because it only has the drivers for that hardware on it.
No, you aren't buying Snow Leopard "twice". Each machine came with OS X, just not the same version. Apple still sells Snow Leopard for $29 with free shipping. It's actually the cheapest place to get it.

  • Can't update to newest version. Keep getting message update failed. When I try to install the downloaded version get message I don't have permissions. What's up with that?

Can't install latest version of Firefox. Continue to get message "update failed". When I try to install a downloaded version get message that I don't have the proper permissions. What' up with that?

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder], so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

  • How can i install windows games in my macbook pro

I m a game lover but since i've macbook pro,i haven't played any game on my macbook...so guys please tell me how can i install windows games to my macbook pro.

As eww said, that computer isn't specifically made for gaming. To get advanced graphics in a game, your computer needs what is called a "discrete" graphics processor, or GPU. This means a seperate chip that processes graphics. In Apple laptops, these are only found in the 15" and 17" MacBook Pro. It is not common to find these in laptops in general that are not expensive and high-end. What you have in yours is an "on-board" or "integrated" GPU. This means that graphics processing is done by a small portion of your main processor (the Intel i5 board). This takes away a portion of primary prossessing and dedicates it to graphics. This works perfectly find in most scenarios, but video rendering, gaming, and 3-D graphics tend to suffer. Most high-end, modern games require discrete GPUs to run at full quality these days.
As far as running Windows 7 and Mac OS both, yes you absolutely can. If you install Windows 7 via Bootcamp (this would require you to have a Windows 7 CD), when you turn on your computer it will default to opening up in Mac OS. But if you hold down the Option key (bottom of the keyboard next to the Command button) while the computer is booting up, it will ask you if you want to open Windows or Mac OS.

How can I install my cs6 on my mac without a disc? I lost it, but I do have the codes.

Download the trial from here and activate with your serial number.  Be sure to following the Very Important Instructions:

If you have already activated on two computers, then you’ll need to call/chat with Adobe to have them deactivate one.

    Kerrse,
    ...and it's content?
While your method will get the app itself across.. the content will present a possible problem, though once it is updated to 9.1.8 the OP could try the "in menu' option to download content but the essential stuff normally gets installed from the DVDs initially with LP9 Boxed set... so it may not be as easy as simply copying across the app only.
    However, worth giving a try.....
