I can't install FCS2...

I'm trying to install FCS2 in a friend's MacBook Pro that have already install FCP5 with all its components (DVD Studio Pro, Compressor, etc).
When I inserted the FCS2's DVD and it prompted to the intallation component's page, I have all but Color turned into gray. When I put the curson over one of the dimmed items it say that I have to make a upgrade for all the programs before install FCS2.
But, for example, when I open FCP and go to Software Update to search for any component, the apple software update tool says that all programs are up-to-date...
The version of FCP installed is 5.0.1

Eduardo,
Your post apparently got sent down the list fairly quickly as others posted after you. This is the first I've seen it and I'm certain that it passed by other viewers as well.
The first issue may be that your friend had FCP 5.0.1 install on an IntelMac. FCP 5.1 was the first version of FCP to be compatible with IntelMacs. So the current installation could be screwing things up. Try uninstalling FCP 5.0.1 first - you can do a search here to find methods to do that.
Once you've uninstalled it, only then try the install of FCs 2.
A much better method would be to do a totally clean install. Make a clone of the boot drive for backup purposes (you can use Carbon Copy Cloner) then reformat the boot drive as Mac OS Extended with Journaling on. Next, install the OS. Run Software Update to get it (and QuickTime) to the proper level required by FCS 2. Repair Permissions.
After you've installed and updated the OS, then you can begin installing the applications including FCS 2.

  • Can I install Premiere CS5.5 on Lion?

Just got my MBP with Lion installed on it already.  Some of you may know you can't install FCS2 on Lion... I want to purchase Premiere CS5.5 and get the 50% off, but need to make sure that it will install..... I'm sure it will, but don't want to be out of luck.  Thanks for any help.

As Joe points out, there are a couple of issues (most notably with eyedroppers and text overlyas of a couple sorts), but in general Premiere Pro CS5.5 works on Lion.
See this page for information about the CS5.5 (5.5.1) update as it relates to Lion.

  • Can't install FCP 5

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro and was getting ready to install FCP 5 (and later upgrade to 6),
but when I click on the installation icon I get this message:
" You can't ope the application Final Cut Studio.mpkg because the PowerPC applications are no longer supported. "
I was not expecting this since I had FCP installed in my old computer which is also an intel based MacBook Pro (2007).
Why am I getting this message? My system requirements are good.
    Any way around this?
    Thanks!!

You don't need to install FCP 5 before FCP 6. Everything you need is on the FCS2 install disc. All you need is the serial number from FCP 5.
That said, you still can't install it on Lion unless you install Rosetta from a Mac OS X 6 Snow Leo disc first.

  • Can I install the same copy of FCP X on my MacBook Pro AND my MacPro?

The license agreement for FCS2 allows me to. Does the agreement for FCP X allow the same? If so, how does one go abaout installing on two different machines?

If purchased through the Mac App Store then it can be installed on up to five authorized CPUs. Otherwise, it's controlled by the license that came with the software.
To install on another computer copy the downloaded installer application to the other computer.

  • I Can't install my NEW Final Cut Studio 2

I Can't install my NEW Final Cut Studio 2;During the initial installation process the applications are dimmed and it tells me that I have to upgrade the previous version, but my "previous" version is Final Cut Studio "ACADEMIC" (FCP 5) which doesn't allow upgrades!. When I enter the previous version's serial # it refuses it and the serial # of the new one doesn't allow me to install. I paid full price for the new FCS2 because I am not elegible to upgrade from an "academic" version... Anyone with a solution... Urgent. I am to start a new project/new client on Monday am
    thanks in advance

Did you uninstall the 1st version with AppZapper? Gotta be some registry type files still lingering around.
    Thanks for your response.
I installed using the conventional DVD's sent by Apple. I installed them on my previous computer a MacBook Pro and it was copied with the rest of its contents when upgrading to my new MacPro.

  • Complete hd erase and reinstall of OS, BEFORE installing FCS2...necessary?

i've read that wiping your hard drives clean and doing a re-install of your OS disks is necessary in order to have a proper installation of FCS2, meaning minimal bugs and problems. does anyone have any experiences regarding that?
ALSO, it has been well documented that Quicktime7.3 doesn't play nice with FCP6. if i decide to re-intall my OS and clean my Mac, will i be able to still use Quicktime7.2?
hope that all makes sense. and as you can see, i'm a newb to these forums and glad to be here.

I'm starting to wonder the same thing. I have FCP 3 on my mac, and I just bought FCS2. I just upgraded to Leopard. But I'm having the hardest time installing FCS2.
I added ram and I am at 1.5 GB now. How long is a normal install time for FCS2? The first time I tried, it got more than halfway done, then the **** power goes out. Does it start the install all the way over? Cause some of the apps (DVD Studio, motion, etc) are on there, but the install never finished. The second time I just tried, I got an error message that said the install disc was damaged. I'm becoming exhausted messing with this and need some help.

  • How many computers can I install my Creative Cloud apps on?

You can install the apps available in Creative Cloud on your primary computer and one backup computer, as long as they are not running at the same time. You will have access to both the Mac OS and Windows versions, so if you have a Mac at home and a PC at work, for example, you can install your applications on both. See the product license agreements page for more information.

    Jeff,
Here is a concern I have.  I called sales support yesterday and asked the following questions.   I have 3 computers (1) PC tower, (1) iMac and (1) MacBook Pro.   When I first started using Adobe all the way through CS5 Master Collection I always owned the Windows Box Versions.  I have been waiting for months for this to come out so I could move my workflow over to MacOS X.    Since the Creative Cloud supports both MAC and Windows installs the question I asked was can I install it on both my 2 Mac Computers.  Then if I need to use it on my PC can I simply deactivate and then activate on it for use?
The answer your support person gave was "YES"  So the answer in this topic don't even flow with the answers from calling the 800 number!
So now reading this forum topic I am really confused.   I like many others have definate reasons why I may want to flip flop the machine I am using the software on  (1) I have $4500 worth of AE plug-ins.  $2000 worth of these are platform specific.  So they only run on a windows machine.  Even, though I intend on my primary workflow to be used on a MAC there may come a time when I need to use one of these plug-ins and then would have to switch my activation to the PC to use it.
Another scenario,  Let's face it Apple has not been to keen on upgrading the Mac Pro system's.  iMac's are great but have their limitations with graphics cards, drives, and memory.  So if you go a complicated AE render to do,iIt makes a lot more sense to run it on a PC at this time for me.  So my hope here is I would de-activate one of my MAC's activate my PC then render away.
I like many others completely understand that we are only suppose to operate our software on 1 machine at a time.  I am cool with you checking this.  Other posters have asked what if I forget to turn one machine off leave with my MacBook Pro and then fire it up.  Will I be in trouble?  Not sure how you handle this if you don't have a connection.  But Spotify the music streaming company license their software to me the user.  If I fire up one machine,  Then grab my iPhone and try to listen it turns it off on the other machine.  Apps in the app store like MotionX Drive do the same thing.
I am an Electrical Automation Engineer by day and a Graphic/Video Designer Enthusiast at night.   In all the programming software that every vendor provides they provide a licensing server software service that sits locally within the location.  It manages concurrent licenses, without the need for online connections.  Any computer needing to run simply pulls the license from the network connected license server software service.  When the program is done it releases the license.  The only issues with this is if your license server crashes.  It can be a bit of a headache with support to get your license back.   Others simply have an online site (like Apple) Where you simply log in and de-activate devices as needed.  (Heck even Hulu, and Netflix offer this.)
I think if Adobe wants the Cloud thing to take off then they need to re-evaluate this.  The license needs to follow the user not the device.  The user should have a painless simple way to activate and de-activate their license back to their Adobe ID.

  • How many computers can you install software on

I have elements 10 installed on one computer can I install it on another?

I am pretty sure you can put on two computers.  I think after you put the serial number in, Adobe will let you know whether you can put another copy on or not.  It keeps track of how many times you've installed it.  I hope that makes sense.

  • How many times can i install?

Well guys this is the problem, i've got parallels and boot camp and i am looking at getting windows xp home sp2 to run on my mac but then i realized you can only install it on one computer. Does installing it in bootcamp and parallels count as two computers or one? If they count as two, does anyone know a way to install on both?
    hope this makes sense!
    Tom

That is correct, but i am wanting to install separately because there are some features disabled by this.
    But thank you for replying!
Also can i add that i am able to use VM ware if that helps in any way.

If I pay $149 for lightroom 6, how many laptops can I install on? I now have one windows laptop and one mac.
    Thanks for helping.

I selected yours as the correct answer because of the webpage you provided, but I cannot understand that what "only use it on one computer at a time".
If the software is for offline use, how does it know if I'm running it on another computer?

I want to upgrade to Mountain Lion, but I have both an iMac and a MacBook Pro.  Do I have to buy two Mountain Lion downloads - one for each, or can I somehow download twice after paying once?

Actually, having made the same claim a couple of days ago and being proven completely wrong, I have a certain responsibility to correct you by mentioning that there is no limit to how many machines ML can be installed on, as long as you own or control those machines.

  • Can't install printer driver: HP Color LaserJet 2605dn drivers "not currently available from the Software Update server"

I was having trouble printing to my HP Color LaserJet 2605dn from a Mac Pro running Mountain Lion, so I went to System Prefernces -> Print & Scan deleted it and atempted to re-add it.  When I try add the printer I get this message:
Software for this printer is available from Apple. Would you like to download and install it?
After clicking Download & Install (the only option other than Cancel), I get this:
Can't install the software for the Hewlett-Packard HP Color LaserJet 2605dn because it is not currently available from the Software Update server.
What's the workaround when Mountain Lion can't find the driver?
    Thanks!

The 2605dn has dual Network and USB connectivity. Which are you attempting to configure: Network or attached USB?
Printer on, and if networked, use a static IP address
    Print & Scan
    IP
    Provide printer static IP address
Select Printer Software ... HP Color LaserJet 2605dn driver (not sure about that 2600 driver)
    Add
Configure Driver under Options and Supplies
I have a 1994 HP Laserjet 4m Plus set up using these steps and the appropriate driver. I just added another network printer, using the same IP address, but using the above 2605dn driver without any issue other than complaint about a redundant IP address.
Hopefully, you have already sorted this out.
