i have downloaded iTunes 8 from the official apple website, when i click the icon on my desktop which was created from the download it says...
gathering required information but then it says...
your computer must be restarted for any changes to iTunes to take effect.
so i do it and then try and go onto iTunes...
IT DOES IT AGAIN!
this keeps happening over and over, i have tryed deleting all the things i have downloaded and downloading again and the same happens.
its a never ending loop.
also when i click on the QuickTime Player buttons it says erroe46 or someting...
file cannot be found
please help me guys!

ok then, sorry ill get the exact problem typed now in number order...
EDIT:
QuickTime Player:
When I click on the QuickTime Player icon my desktop which was made when I downloaded iTunes 8 from the official apple website I got this...
'Error 46: Could not load or find the QuickTime ActiveX control.'
iTunes:
When I click on the iTunes icon on my desktop which was made when I downloaded iTunes 8 from the official apple website after what seemed to be a normal instalation I got this...
1. Preparing to install
2. Please wait while windows configures iTunes (takes 9 seconds)
3. Gathering required information...
4. Time remaining: 3 seconds
5. Time remaining: 2 seconds
6. (then jumps to) Time remaining: 14 seconds
7. You must restart your system for the configuration changes made to iTunes to take effect. Click Yes to restart now or No if you plan to manually restart later.
*Then this happens*
1. (If I click Yes) Opens the 'Computer' page then restarts my computer (takes longer than usual.
1. (If I click No) Opens the 'Computer' page and does nothing else. (If I restart my computer manually then nothiing out of the usual seems to happen)
2. (After restart) If I click the iTunes icon this happens all over again!
Notes
I have tryed deleting all of the components of the original download and then downloading again three times to see if it helps. But no luck.
Would trying to find an earlyer version of iTunes possibly help? like version 7 or something?
SOON I WILL RECORD WHAT HAPPENS AND POST ON YOUTUBE AND SEE IF THAT HELPS ANYONE THAT MIGHT HAVE A SOLUTION FOR ME.

  • Can't install itunes and quicktime on win7 32bit

    Hi all,
since the new updates from october 2011 i couldnt update my itunes anymore. During the installation it said:
in dutch: kan map C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu niet maken. Er bestaat al een bestand met deze naam. Wijzig de naam of verwijder het bestand en klik op nogmaals.
In english: can not make folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu. There already excists a folder with this name. Rename the folder or delete the folder and try again.
Now the problem is: i deleted my itunes and quicktime to finally install the new updates. When i install itunes it still give this message during the install and i cannot find the folder  C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu  and i deleted everything i could find from itunes.
In my start menu there isnt anything named itunes as far as i can see. how can i delete the folder so i can finally instal itunes again..?

These are the minimums listed for the iPod Classic:
    Windows system requirements
    PC with USB 2.0 port
Windows Vista or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later
    iTunes 7.4 or later

  • Cannot open TIFF files since installing iTunes and QuickTime Player.

iTues+Quicktime is preventing use of Alternatiff, that is a Firefox plug-in TIFF image viewer, from displaying the image. Instead the Quicktime symbol appears but is unable to display the image. I uninstalled iTunes and without any other change, the plug-in works. I installed iTunes, making sure it is not selected as default media player. When iTunes started both it and Alternatiff plug-in functioned correctly. However, Upon exit from iTunes my TIFF viewer stopped working again. Uninstalling Quicktime (leaving iTunes) enables Altermatiff but then iTunes doesn't work
It is critical that I get bot iTunes and a TIFF viewer plug in to work.
    HELP!!!
    [email protected]

    Excellent news, Bulent!
I hope Quicktime does not, later, try to take over again.
Good point ... next time you do a QuickTime update directly from the Website:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
... very near the end of the install, there should be a screen with a "Configure File/MIME types" button. Click the button, go to the MIME types, and make sure that that TIFF image entry is unchecked. That should avoid the problem in future.

  • Can't install itunes or QuickTime updates on PC running Vista

When trying to install updates to the following:
    itunes version 10.5.1
    QuickTime version 7.7.1
I receive the following message in itunes/QuickTime popup window:
The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory:
    C:\Program Files\Quick Time.
The installation cannot continue. Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator.
Does anyone know what the problem may be?
In addition, I can no longer use itunes, or QuickTime. I get the same popup message as referenced above.

I am having this same problem. Has anyone found a solution?

  • Can't install iTunes or QuickTime on Vista.  Vista is killing me. HALP!

I read through all the [million] other posts with Vista problems but mine is a bit different.
Its a brand new Dell computer with 32bit Vista Home Premium which I have learned is a bad idea but now I'm stuck with it and without my music. I hear some people don't have problems with ITunes and Vista at all so I still have hope.
When I try to install iTunes 8 plus QuickTime this is the error:
"the installation of QuickTime did not complete successfully. iTunes requires QuickTime."
When I try to install QuickTime on its own this is the error:
"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2755."
Thanks for any info. Peace in the new year to all!

I am having this same problem. Has anyone found a solution?

  • Can't Install iTunes because QuickTime recognizes an older version.

I tried to upgrade my iTunes from 7.4 to 7.6 but I could not so I completly uninstalled iTunes and QuickTime. When I reinstalled iTunes I got an error message saying "A newer version of QuickTime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed wihle the newer version of QuickTime is installed." I have uninstalled everything apple related. I have downloaded the Windows utility cleaner and I am still having problems. I forgot to add that I am using Windows Vista 32 Bit. I cleared my Temp and had my brother come over and help me open the registry and we deleted every QuickTime related file. I still have this error message and do not know what to do. Any help would be much appreiciated. It is a good thing I backed up my Library on a disk.

Take a look in Task Manager just to see if anything Apple related is running, perhaps iPod or Apple mobile device related. Also right click on My Computer go to Manage + to expand Services and Applications then click on Services, to also see if anything Apple related is running.
One more thing comes to mind. There has been problems with QT instalations when K-Lite & Ace codecs have been installed on a computer. If you go to Search, you may want to look up some of b noir's post on this issue, if in fact these codecs were installed on the computer.

  • Can't Install iTunes or Quicktime Error Code 2356

    Hi!
I cannot for the life of me install either Quicktime or iTunes. I haven't been able to for a long time, which was never a problem, until I got a new iPod and iTunes wouldn't let me sync the two them until I installed a newer version. I have read many posts + looked all over the internet and can't seem to solve the problem. I have run a registry cleaner. I have removed iTunes, Quicktime, and anything related. I have tried to download quicktime as a stand along program. Everytime I try to install these programs I get a message about an error code 2356. Has anyone ever had a problem like this or have any ideas how to fix this? Thanks ahead of time for your help.

Thanks for taking the time to try and help me. I have tried that. The program will actually not even download on my computer (Windows Installer Cleanup). I get this error message...
    Windows Script Host
    Script: C:\DOCUEME~1\User\LOCALS~1\Temp\IXP000.TMP\StartMsi.vbs
    Line: 1
    Char: 1
Error: ActiveX component can't create object: 'Scripting.FileSystemObject'
    Code: 800A01AD
    Source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error
I am sure the problems are connected.... or maybe not. I do not know. I have looked online about this problem and see a few different solutions, but didn't want to try anything, because I do not want to make things worse on my computer. Do you know what this means or how to fix it?

  • Can't Install iTunes 8.1...and i have tried everything!

    Hi Guys,
I received my new iPod Nano this morning and was informed by iTunes that i had to install a newer version of the software (8.0 or later) to use it! I was running 7.5 before i think...
After having several problems installing i kept getting the installsheild errors so i removed ALL apple products and re-installed Quicktime 7.5, then went to go for iTunes (as the combined package wouldn't work)!
It got 99% of the way through and threw up the Isscript.msi error message - so i downloaded the version 8 and 11 .msi files as i was informed on another thread and tried again!
    No Luck!
I have no idea what to do...this Isscript.msi error is just the most frustrating thing in the world!
Any help would be appreciated guys!

What service pack is installed for Windows XP? If you haven't already update to Service Pack 2 or later.

  • After installing Maverick, my downloaded movies will not play in Quick Time.  It gives me the following error "You can't open the application "QuickTime Player.app" because it may be damaged or incomplete."  What can I do?

After installing Maverick, my downloaded movies will not play in Quick Time.  I receive the following error message:
You can’t open the application “QuickTime Player.app” because it may be damaged or incomplete.  So I tried to unistall QT and I get an error that says, You can not delete this application as it is a requirement for the OSX.
Well I did find a way to delete it, by going into the various components and one by one deleting it.  Now I reinstall it and  the message is that this Quick Time is for an earlier version before Maverick 7.  SMH....Now what.?

    Hello, terrygav.
I would recommend processing a reinstall of Mavericks.
OS X Mavericks: Reinstall OS X

  • Can't install iTunes due to Quicktime failing to install

I'm on Vista (sad face) and over the past couple months iTunes has worked on and off...working and then I get an error saying "iTunes has stopped working" and then I have to mess with everything uninstalling/installing to get it working again.
However last week, when it happened I uninstalled iTunes and then attempted to uninstall Quicktime but it would not remove Quicktime off the list even after restarts. Then I ran the newest iTunes + Quicktime installer and it just goes until it gives me and error saying "The installer encountered errors before the requested operation for Quicktime could be compleated" and takes me to the complete box saying try again later. So the problem is with Quicktime because it won't uninstall/install and thus I can not install iTunes.
I have tried using the stand-alone Quicktime installer and have gotten the same error. I have also tried Apple Software Updater and no dice. I am getting very frustrated nothing seems to work and I need to update my iPod! Please help!
    Thanks!

+I finally got QuickTime uninstalled (it wouldn't give me errors uninstalling, it just wouldn't uninstall) via Windows CleanUp Utility.+
After you used CleanUp, did you manually remove any leftover QuickTime program files?
If not, let's run through a CleanUp routine again.
Run CleanUp and remove the QuickTime entry.
    1. On the Start menu, click Computer.
    2. In Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx. (If “Hide filename extensions for known file types” is enabled on the PC, then those two files will appear as “QuickTime” and QuickTimeVR”.)
    7. Restart your computer.
Next, we'll try to get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
Switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
Go into "Uninstall a program" in your Control Panel (assuming here that you don't have Classic View selected) and select itunes. click "Repair" up at the top of the control panel screen.
If the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. Does it launch properly now?

  • New Version of Quicktime installed. Can't install iTunes 9.01

I am trying to install the new version of iTunes but its telling me I already have the newest version of quicktime and can not install itunes. Can I just install itunes without quicktime?

Quit ranting. I am running QT 7.6.4 and iTunes 9.1.1 on my Tiger iMac. It will be ten years old this summer. I have all of you beat I use it to sync a brand new iPod Touch. It works fine, even though it was built prior to even the beta version of OS X.

Virtually useless? Really? Perhaps you're exaggerating a wee bit ?
I've spent almost nothing keeping mine up to date. Until someone can provide a tangible reason to update to Snow Leopard, I have no plans to replace this ten year old computer.
Here are Apple's download sites for QuickTime and iTunes, respectively.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/#quicktime
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
They'll install and run fine on your three year old dinosaur of an iMac (geez!).
I'm reasonably sure Software Update alerted me to the QuickTime update. It was at least several months ago. Perhaps sometime subsequent to that I became unceremoniously dumped by Apple Support. After only ten years. Imagine!
Virtually useless? Wow. Kids today, I swear...

  • I can not open itunes without quicktime 7.5.5 why ?

i can not open itunes without quicktime 7.5.5 why ?

You don't provide us with much background infomation such as operating system version you are using, but usually when I see this kind of question it gets answered by:
    QuickTime 7.5.5 for Leopard - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL27
    QuickTime 7.7 for Leopard - http://support.apple.com/kb/dl761
= New version of Quicktime installed but application reports it needs to have that version installed =
Open Application > Utilities > System Profiler and check the Quicktime version in Frameworks vs. the version in Applications.  I recently helped where the person had re-installed their operating system.  It had kept the newer Player application but had reverted to an earlier version of the underlying support framework files which many applications utilize.  Re-installing Quicktime 7.7 took care of the problem.  Do this manually, not with Software Update.
Installation get stuck at "configuring installation" - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2592979?threadID=2592979  - uninstall Quicktime before installing.
