I can't Install Lion

I have been trying to install Lion but everytime I come to select my HD it won't highlight. I have checked permissions and even did disk repair Please help what am I doing wrong?
Thank You

What version of OS X is installed on the hard drive? To upgrade to Lion you need to have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
Your hard drive must have at least 9 GBs of free space to install Lion. The drive must be using the GUID partition scheme and formatted Mac OS Extended, Journaled. Use Disk Utility to verify your drive's configuration.
From where did you obtain the Lion installer you are using?

You can use Migration Assistant in Applications > Utilities to get all your files from one iMac to the other. If you want to upgrade your older model to MtLion you need to have at least a mid 2007 Intel Core 2 Duo with a bare minimum of 2GB of RAM. Then you need to buy the Snow Leopard 10.6.3 DVD , update with
    Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
at which point you can access the App Store to purchase and install MtLion 10.8 where you would then have access to the iCloud.

  • I can't install Lion. Nobody (include genius bar people) can't know how to resolve this problem. Interesting?

I can't instal Lion. After restart my MBP try start and freeze on silver screen with apple sign. Nobody know how resolve this problem. I talk for 3 hours to Apple technical support, online support. I was at Apple Store on Genius Bar. NOTHING. If in Apple is somebody who know?

  • Can't install Lion from usb to my mac pro!!!

I created a USB boot disk per instructions and when it boots on my Mac Pro all it goes to is the Safari Only interface with no options to install anything. Just to be sure I boot to the same USB on my Macbook Air and I get the OS X Lion install options/interface so the USB key works.
I have a brand new 3TB drive as the install disc. I did boot to a Snow Leopard install disc so that I could format the drive correctly as the USB key didn't give me those options. In any case I can't install Lion for some reason to this machine. Any ideas?
It's a 2.8Ghz Quad Core Mac Pro bought in Oct of 2008.
    Thanks!!

It's not specifically hardware specific. But IIRC the Air computers used a special version of Lion, at least when Lion first came out.
Try this, use LionDiskMaker to create the USB installer.
Serial Serveur » Lion DiskMaker (US)
See if that creates a usable USB stick.

  • Can't install Lion! Can't do anything now!

Can't install Lions as it says disk needs repairing. Can't repair it, can't erase it! Tried restoring from Time Capsule. It finds the backups but then can't find the HD to restore to.
    Now totally screwed! Any suggestions?

Lengthy visit to Genius Bar today. Had to erase disk completely (soooooo glad I have Time Capsule) and reinstall a Known Good version of Lion onboard. Then a 4 hour reload of last backup from Time Capsule. All good now.
Well done to Will @ Cardiff Apple Store!!!

You can also use the OS X Lion installer from the Mac App Store to create an external bootable drive, complete with a Recovery HD partition. See this article for more details. This approach will, at least, create a bootable drive with Recovery HD which you can carry with you in case you need to use Internet Restore or make use of the other utilities Recovery HD provides.

I own two I macs. I bought and installed Lion on one computer. How can I install Lion on the other compute without additional charge?

If it's the same email address Apple registration on both, use the 2nd computer and go to the App Store and find Lion. If different, use the second computer but log in to the App store with the address you used on the first go round. The buy button should instead say install. Then go through the same process again.

  • I can't install Lion, I get the "No Recovery" message.

I can't install Lion, I get the "No Recovery" message. I do not have a boot camp partition. I have backed up and completed a clean install of Snow Leopard. Lion would still not install. Please help?

Did you completely erase your drive when you reinstalled SL? If not, I would make sure that you erase the drive completely. Then install SL and make sure you run Software Update. If you already did all of those, then do it again, but this time make a bootable drive for Lion using the Lion OS X Install App. I believe you can find instructions on how to do that by searching this community or doing a google search.
Once you have a bootable drive of Lion, then shut your machine down. Plug in the bootable drive and turn the machine on. Once you hear the tone hold down 'C' until you see the spinning clock/bars. The Lion Install menu should appear. If not, try going to the Apple icon and select Startup. Next a window should appear showing your bootable drive. Select that and follow the directions.
Make sure that when you reinstall SL that you don't restore any of your Apps or files yet, wait to do that once you have Lion installed.

I am running 10.5.8 on my 2.GHz iMac. Can I install Lion immediately or have I got to go through some hurdles?

No. You need to purchase Snow Leopard (10.6) first and then install Lion via the Mac App Store.
    See link for SL requirements
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A
Here are the requirements for Lion
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space

Talk to your and/or Apples lawyers, I can't answer that.
One of my computer is 10.5, how can I install Lion on this machine?  Thanks!
If you're going to download from the App Store it needs to be running 10.6.8. Apple also now has  Lion on a flashdrive that I believe can be installed on non Snow Leopard machines. Finally if you have Lion on one of your machines already you can make your own flashdrive installer which again I believe will work on non Snow Leopard machines.
Search here or on the web or Apples site for more detailed info.

  • How many computers can you install Lion after purchasing from App store. My wife and I have our own Apple ID will it accept 2 different ID

I have a MacBook Pro and an iMac . My wife has a MacBook and an iMac. How many computers are you allowed to install from one download. We both use Apple products and have our own Apple ID. Can I download Lion on her computers after I have both of mine installed? Or does she have to buy LION again using her Apple ID# ?

A single purchase of Lion will allow you to download it multiple times as long as you use your Apple ID.
If your wife wishes to install Lion, she must sign into the App Store with your Apple ID.

  • Can't install Lion (Windows XP and Parallells 6 being used)

    Hi,
This is my first post here, so please forgive me if I'm not too used to the forum habits. I've been checking the discussions before, but haven't been able to find anything that matched my case...
Let me explain it to you, so that hopefully somebody knows the solution and can share it with me...
I had Mac OS X (10.6) installed in my MacBookPro.
I had also installed Windows XP with Bootcamp in a different partition.
I had also installed Paralllels Desktop 6.
    Everything worked fine.
Yesterday I decided to upgrade to Lion, and bought it in the Apple Store.
Before going ahead with the process, and as indicated by Apple, I upgraded the current Mac OS to the latest version.
I tried to install it, and after rebooting, when it was about 30 minutes to finish the installation, I got amessage saying that "MAc OS X can't be installed in the  Macintosh HD hard drive, because a recovery disk can not be created" (translated from the Spanish message)
Then, I though that maybe it was some issue with Parallels Desktop. I checked their Fourms, and indeed it seemed that it could be the reason. I upgraded to the last available version.
I tried again, and got the same message.
Then I thought that maybe I had to upgrade to the last version also with Parallels in the Windows machine. I did so, and I tried again... and again it didn't work.
I don't know what else I can do... besides deleting the Windows partition, installing Lion, and creating a new partition, in which I should install Windows 7 (as Windows XP, as it is explained, is not supported in a new partition)
I followed all the natural steps to create the partition for Windows, install Parallels, etc. I mean that I didn't do anything manually then...
The only "weird" thing that I had to do when installing Windows XP was this one:
The Windows XP that I had was Service Pack 1, and Service Pack 2 was included in another CD... Of course that's not a problem when installing Windows in a PC, but gave me a lot of troubles to install it in the Mac. I found this solution in a Forum in Internet, follow the steps, and it worked:
    (http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/running-windows-anything-else-your-mac/38166-wi ndows-xp-service-pack-2-installation-problem.html)
    1. Click Start - Run - Type “regedit” and press enter 2. Navigate to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Setup] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    \Software
    \Microsoft
    \Windows
    \CurrentVersion
\Setup 3. In the right pane, Right-click and select New - String value 4. Name it as “BootDir” and set its value to “C”
Can this be the reason why I'm not able to install Lion now?
Anyway, and whether it is, any solution (simple, if possible, please! ;-> ) to install it?
(Buying Windows 7, deleting the partition, etc. seems very nightmarish to me)
    Thanks a lot in advance!

  • How many computers can i install lion on?

just wanted to know, is there a limit on downloads of the new system?

You can have up to 5 devices ( that includes PCs ) authorized with an iTunes account
Lion can be installed on any Mac authorized on an iTunes account that purchases Lion
Therefore, if you have 5 Macs & all are associated with the same iTunes account, you can install Lion on all 5 for 1 Lion purchase.  That means that all the Mac share the same iTunes media, purchases, etc, since they are all on the same iTunes ID
There doesn't appear to be any limits to how many times Lion can be reinstalled ( downloaded ) onto the same computer.  Since the OS is now licensed to the iTunes account ID, changing the internal hardware, ie hard drive, etc, won't affect licensing, unlike windows vista
    Cheers !
