  • I can't install Mountain Lion because I can't install Mac App Store

I have Snow Leopard, and have purchased a download of Mountain Lion. The instructions say I can't get the download without going to the Mac App Store. I tried, and that seemed to require a download of Yosemite. I downloaded Yosemite, which took an hour, and now can't install it because I get a message saying this computer uses Time Machine for backups. In fact, I don't use Time Machine, so I tried taking it out of applications. However, I still get the same message. I am totally stuck, going around in circles. Is there a way to get the Mac App Store without going through Yosemite? Is there a way to download my purchased update to Mountain Lion without encountering all these extra problems?  Thank you for any help.

See OS X- Cannot install on a volume used by Time Machine for backups. You should not have delete the Time Machine application.
If you have 10.6.8 installed then you can open the App Store on your computer. On the right under Quick Links is a link, "Redeem." Click on that. Enter the redemption code you were sent for Mountain Lion. After it is accepted the download will start. If you now click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar, you will find Mountain Lion entered and a progress bar for your download. You should see something similar on the Launchpad item in the Dock, if you have one.
After the Mountain Lion download has successfully completed it will automatically launch. My advice: before you click on the Install button locate the Mountain Lion installer in your Applications folder and put a copy of it in your Downloads folder for safe keeping. Once you have completed the Mountain Lion installation the installer will be deleted automatically. By having your own copy you can make a USB flash drive installer:
Make Your Own Mavericks, Mountain/Lion Installer
After downloading the installer you must first save the Install Mac OS X application. After the installer downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
       2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the leftside list. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list.
Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.
Use DiskMaker X to put your installer clone onto the USB flash drive. Wait for the process to complete which will take quite some time.

Install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
    Restart your Mac.
FYI...  you can access the Mac App Store either from your Apple menu icon (top left in your screen) then click App Store, or your Applications folder, or your Dock.
The combo should reinstall the App Store for you.

I can't get mac app store on my mac!!

The Mac App Store is part of 10.6.6 and newer. If you're using an Intel Mac, purchase Mac OS X 10.6 on DVD and then run Software Update. If you're using a PowerPC Mac, give up.

  • I can't download Mac App Store

I can't download Mac App Store using OS X 10.6.8 following Apple's downloading procedure--the Mac App Store icon never appears in the dock or anywhere else!Mac App Store

You don't update from 10.6.3 by using the App Store. You use Software Update for that. Then after using Software Update to get to 10.6.8, you'll have the latest version of the App Store.
I don't see how this issue relates to your iPad.

  • Clean install & Mac App Store (Can't reinstall Apps)

    Hello Everyone,
I just did a clean instal of OS X Lion and after signing into the Mac App Store, it is telling me that programs are already installed (which they are not). If I try to update or anything it tellls me these are associated with another account.
"To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it."
How do I get around this?
    Regards,
    CLM

Just to confirm, you can boot into the Recovery Drive by holding down Command R when restarting.
When you select to reinstall OS X, what happens?
    Fix for missing MAS
It's possible #1 will do the trick, but you might need to do the additional steps in Keychain access.
    1.  Delete the files /var/db/crls/crlcache.db and /var/db/crls/ocspcache.db. These can be found using Finder’s Go >; Go To Folder menu (Cmd + Shift + G). This resets the cache of accepted certificates in the system. It doesn’t remove them, it just forces the system to rebuild the caches upon restart.
    2.  Open Keychain Access (/Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access). Select Certificates in the Category picker on the left side. In the search bar, type in the word Class. Look through that list, and find any certificates that have a blue + symbol over their icon. These are the ones you need to modify.
Select one that has a blue +, and hit Command + I. Click the disclosure triangle beside the “Trust” list to show the list of permissions. Now, what we need to do is to set this certificate to use the system defaults. However, for some reason, when you select it, it doesn’t save. So what you need to do is this. Under “Trust”, where it says “Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)”, change the dropdown menu to say “No Value Specified”. Then, close the window. It will ask for your administrator permissions. Then, open the info pane for that certificate again. Under “Trust” again, now set the dropdown that says “When using this certificate:” to say “Use System Defaults”. You can then close out of the info pane, and enter your password again. Do this for any of the certificates that have a blue + on their icon. There should only be one or two at most.
(Note: I had to toggle the settings before it would stick)
    Restart your system.

  • Why can't I install Mac app store

Hi I want to install the Mac App Store to have the chance to Install OS X Lion. But eveytime I'm trying to go to the App Store it brings me back to the overall of Mountain Lion OS. Can you help me guys? Thank you!

I think that you have to be running OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard (or some version of Snow Leopard at minimum) in order to have the Mac App Store. Your tagline says that you are running 10.5.8 Leopard.

  • Can't Get Mac App Store Notifications Working

I've noticed recently that I've stopped seeing the red notification icon pop-up on my Mac App Store dock icon as it should be doing. I also haven't seen any Mac App Store notifications pop-up in the Notifications Center for quite some time as well.
However, if I open the Mac App Store, it acknowledges available updates and shows the red icon at that point. Once available updates are installed, the red icon dissapears as expected.
I've confirmed this issue does not occur in a new user account and I've tried, with no success, to remove the App Store .plist files from my user library folder, from both the Preferences folder and the Cookies folder, then restarted the computer.
I'm wondering if there is some other settings file somewhere that could be affected in some way and causing this issue.
    Any suggestions?

    Check System Preferences->Spotlight->Privacy and see
if your boot volume is listed.
Something that can sometimes cause all manor of strange
issues with the MacApp Store is if the boot volume somehow
got listed in the privacy pane.  The MacApp Store app uses
    Spotlight data to dertermine updates.

  • Install Mac App Store apps on more than one computer

Can install apps, downloaded from the Mac App Store, on two different computers? I have downloaded and installed a number of apps on my iMac, now I want to sync my iPod with my MacBook, instead of the iMac, and would like to know if I can install these apps on my MacBook, so that they can then be synced with my iPod again. Please let me know. An help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You did not download any apps from the Mac App Store for your iPod. The Mac App Store only sells apps for the Apple Macintosh computer as the Mac in the store's name implies.
    You should be posting this type of question about iOS apps in the iTunes Store forum, as you bought these apps from the iTunes Store's App Store;
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/itunes/itunes_store
Yes, the iOS apps on your iMac can be transfered to your MacBook. One quick way is to use your LAN. Drag and drop the apps from the iMac which are located in ~/Music/ITunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Apps onto the iTunes app on your MacBook.

  • How can i get mac app store on my macbook, how can i get mac app store on my macbook

hi i cant downloads applications and games on my macbook and i cant find the mac app store can someone help me and tell me how can i find it or download it thx

According to your profile your Mac is running v10.5.8 Leopard.
So, you need to upgrade to Snow Leopard v10.6.6 (minimum) in order to have access to the App Store.
Snow Leopard is no longer available from the Apple online store so you need to contact Apple directly.

  • Can use the Mac App Store behind a HTTP/1.1 proxy

We have an HTTP/1.1 proxy at work, and when doing a download from the Mac Apps Store, the downloaded data comes through as "Transfer-Encoding: chunked".
According to the HTTP 1.1 specification (the request is made as HTTP/1.1), the client MUST be able to decode the chunked transfer encoding (see the end of section 3.6.1 in rfc2616).
Am I missing something? Or is there a way to make the Mac App Store use HTTP/1.0, or support the standard?
    Thanks.

No. Only apps bought through the MAS can be updated by the MAS.

  • Update available but can't download mac app store

Mac app store says i got an update, but when i click the updates tab, says all software is up to date.
Xcode was updated not so long ago and i could never run the update, so i think that is the update it says i have.
I need that update for better stability and work better with my projects, and can't update because of this issue.
BTW my connection is too slow to download the whole xcode again. what do i do?

    10.5.8 is Leopard, no Appstore.
10.6.6-8 is Snow Leopard, that's what you need.
10.7... is Lion (also Appstore ofcourse), but this OS is different. Why not upgrade to Snow Leopard first, and then decide later if you will (and can) go to Lion?

  • Can I run Mac App Store programs from an external drive?

I have a 13" MacBook Air (128); but I have tons of programs that I have purchased from the Mac App Store, especially large training video programs. Even though I don't have a shortage of drive space yet, I certainly could find myself in that position if I keep ALL my programs and data on the flash drive. I really don't need to keep all these on my main drive; but I would like to be able to run one when I need it. Is there any problem with moving the program from APPLICATIONS to an external drive and running it from there? Should I leave the support files & folders (preference & application support) on the flash drive?
    THANKS.

Thanks for your help on this.
The MacBook Air is a joy; but the limited drive space is the only caveat. I really should have spent the extra money on the 256 gb flash drive; but at the time I was in the mood to go minimalist. Unfortunately that doesn't work well for me.
I have already moved all my music to iTunes Match and moved the backups to the external drive. I also keep most of my archive data on the 3 tb external drive. It's mostly those training video programs which are about a gig each that I want to move to the external drive ... ones I would not use that often ... so it's nice to know I can do that.
    THANKS AGAIN.
