Where did you obtain the Snow Leopard DVD? If it is aDVD from another computer, it will not work. You will need the retail version of the DVD as shown below.

I use a PowerPC G4 (QuickSilver 2002) computer.  Can I install OS X 10.5 Leopard on my Mac?
    * Processor:  Dual 1 GHz PowerPC G4
2 MB L3 cache per processor
    * Memory:  1.5 GB SDRAM

It should work OK with 10.5.8 then.
If you don't know the model, find the Serial# & use it on one of these sites, but don't post the Serial# here...

  • Can I install Maverick straight from Snow Leopard ?

    Hi there,
I have succesfully installed & upgrade my OS from ML to Maverick.
However, I have another iMac which only runs on Snow Leopard. Can this iMac be upgraded straight to Maverick or do I have to purchase to upgrade to Snow Leopard first before upgrading to Maverick ?
    Thanks

Please clarify. You say the other Mac runs on Snow Leopard but ask if it needs to be upgraded to Snow Leopard. Either way, it needs to conform to one of these Mac models to be able to run Mavericks.

Also be aware that any PPC programs will no longer run in Mavericks. Check here for compatability.

    Thanks Pete for your assistance.
There was a typo om my part. What I meant to say was, I am on Snow Leopard and ask if I need to update to the latest Snow Leopard before upgrading to Maverick. I have just checked my Version is 10.6.8 so I am not sure if my SL is the latest).
On yr second query, what you meant by PPC progams ? I do not run any Windows program if that is what you meant ? Also my 27"  iMac is a few versions behind which I think runs on Intel chip.
    Thanks

  • How can I know if I have Snow Leopard on my mac?

How can I find out if I have Snow Leopard on my mac?

Click on the black apple in the upper left hand corner of your screen
Drag the cursor down to 'About this Mac' and click it
That should bring up a pane that has information about your Mac
If under Mac OS X, you see version 10.6.x, where x = 0 through 8, then you are running Snow Leopard
Why do you need to know?

  • Can I install a version of snow leopard server on a newer Mac Mini model?

    Hi-
I have Snow Leopard server running on a Mac Mini from 2010. I decided I really need some redundancy so want to get another and sync them in case of failure. Can I buy the latest Mac Mini model and install Snow Leopard server on it or will it not let me due to some firmware limitation? I've been able to do revert on other models and not others. Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

****-So I have to find the latest Mac Mini that will run Snow Leopard Server? I refuse to upgrade to that crap they call server nowadays. It's Snow Leopard server till I move to Linux. Thing is, those Minis cost nearly as much now as they did when brand new. I feel like I'm getting ripped off. Oh well. Thanks for the quick answer guys!

  • Can't Install Boot Camp from Snow Leopard DVD in Windows 7

    I have an iMac "Core 2 Duo" 3.06 24-inc (08) running 10.6.2 and Windows 7.
I was able to successfully use the Boot Camp Assistant to partition and install Windows 7 on my iMac. After the installation, I was able to download updates from Windows Updates which included video drivers.
However, when I inserted my Snow Leopard DVD to install Boot Camp 3.0, the Setup.exe only gave me two options: To Install Mac OS X remotely and to install CD/DVD Sharing. I was not presented any options to install Boot Camp.
I did manually navigate the Snow Leopard DVD and found a Boot Camp directory with its own setup.exe and when I clicked on it, it gave me an Installation Error stating "Boot Camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model". I did some research and I found no mention of my iMac listed as an unsupported model.
    Any help would be appreciated.

When I inserted Snow Leopard DVD, the autorun didn't show me an option to install Boot Camp Drivers. Just like the author of this topic, it only showed me 2 options: to Install Mac OS X remotely and to install CD/DVD Sharing.
Then, I've run Windows Explorer, navigated to Snow Leopard DVD, opened Boot Camp folder and runned "setup.exe". The installer opened and Boot Camp 3.0 was installed successfully.
I don't know if it could help you guys with that error message, but after the installation of Windows 7 64bits, I've rebooted my Macbook Pro. Only after the reboot I did the Boot Camp Drivers installation.
You can also try to run the "setup.exe" as Administrator (right-click, Run as administrator).
Also, my Snow Leopard DVD is that grey one with the white "Mac OS X Install DVD" labelled on it.

  • Can't install Fireworks CS4 on Snow leopard

    Hi.
I can't install Fireworks CS4 just donwloaded (bought long time ago) on my macbook with snow leopard.
Everytime i try i get this error message:
Installation cannot continue untile the following applications are closed:
    shellExtLoader

    thank you.

Have you tried restarting your computer and then initiating the installation?  Beyond that you can try closing down the application manually utilizing the Activity Monitor.  You can find it at Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor.

  • Can't Install a Fax Modem - Snow Leopard thinks it is a printer

We have 4 computers on a network three of which are running Snow Leopard. The fourth is a G5 running tiger with an internal modem. I have set this up to send faxes and allow other computers to use it and Printer sharing is enabled.
When I try and install the Internal Modem in the Snow Leopard machines it comes up as a printer, not a fax machine and defaults to the "Generic Postscript Printer" driver. Any ideas how to install this as a Fax?

I was not able to repro with latest Vipre 2014 build. Please ensure your virus definitions are upto date.
Let me know in case of any issues.

Five in your household, that is. Apple sells volume licenses if you need multiple copies for a business.

  • Installing OSx V10.6 Snow Leopard on another computer?

Can I install OSx V10.6+ Snow Leopard on this server that has windows on it, with no problem? I reffer to the CD I got with my MacBook Pro 13" OS install. Will something go wrong if I boot it with the CD?   I lost the password to it, so I hear I have to reinstall the OS, but the OSx SnowLeopard I own is the only OS I have to install on anything. Is this bootable?

I'm not sure what you mean by, "is it safe." Correct you are that the disc was intended exclusively for use with the computer with which it came.
And, you cannot install OS X on non-Apple hardware. Not only will that installer disc not work on a non-Apple computer, but it is illegal to try and use it. Such a use is prohibited by the software license for OS X.

    Hi.
You simply can't. Snow Leopard is compiled in Intel binary only.
