  • Can't install Photoshop Extended on Mac 10.5.4 components failed

One of our professors has a brand new iMac running 10.5.4
The machine has 4 GB of ram and Photoshop has never been installed on this system before.
The only Adobe product on the machine is Acrobat 8. (Not the reader - the actual program.) I tried to install Photoshop Extended - not from the Creative suite DVD set, but as a stand alone product that we bought.
The problem is the software will not install. I get the error message that the components failed.
I am in the administrator account.
The installer runs very slowly and then says that of the three components (one being Photoshop) only the shared components installed. The other two failed.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you,
    John

    Routine maintenance is imperative.
I still advocate Repairing Permissions (with Apple's Disk Utility) before AND after any system update or upgrade, as well as before AND after installing any software that requires an installer that asks for your password.
I have seen software installations go sour because the installer did not find everything as and where it should be.
I have also seen software installations go bad because the installer did not clean up after itself properly and did not leave everything as and where it should be.
This is just my own personal opinion and practice based on my own observations. Others may disagree and that's OK. I can only base my routines and my advice to others on my own experience and conclusion. I don't pretend to know why others believe otherwise.
Repairing Permissions after the fact (i. e. not immediately before and after an install) seldom helps.; Try it anyway, though.

Additionally, if your machine does not run 24/7 so that it runs the daily, weekly and monthly Cron Scripts in the middle of the night as intended by Apple, run Cocktail (shareware) as well.
Cron Scripts are maintenance routines designed by Apple to run on a daily, weekly and monthly basis in the middle of the night.
If you don't run them, you WILL run into trouble, sooner rather than later.
Here's an excerpt from the Apple tech doc
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107388
Mac OS X performs background maintenance tasks at certain times if the computer is not in sleep mode. If your computer is shut down or in sleep at the designated times, the maintenance does not occur. In that case, you may want or need to run these manually.
Mac OS X periodically runs background tasks that, in part, remove system files that are no longer needed. This includes purging older information from log files or deleting certain temporary items. These tasks do not run if the computer is shut down or in sleep mode. If the tasks do not run, it is possible that certain log files (such as system.log) may become very large.
    Also, from:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106978
The disk activity generated by find is a normal part of file system maintenance, used for tasks such as removing invisible temporary files that are used by the system. It is scheduled to occur early in the morning at 03:15 everyday, 04:30 on Saturdays, and 05:30 on the first day of each month.
    NOTE:
There have been comments to the effect that Apple "fixed" this in 10.4.2 and later versions of the OS, but I have not been able to verify this to my satisfaction. The reference in the 10.4.2 release notes are far from explicit on this subject.

By the end of the installation, it shows, error, but no error number for reference,
    The only choice is "quit".

That is correct Das_Sad.  CS2 will not run on Intel based processors under Mac OS.  You will need to find a Mac computer with a PowerPC processor if you wish to run Creative Suite 2.

  • Our corporate proxy prevents downloading and installing Photoshop CC and makes the installer crash.

What IP's and ports the downloader/installer is connecting to so we can make changes to our firewall & proxy settings. Can't find them on Adobe site.
The installer crashes on every installation attempt and does leave an error report in win7 application log, but the error itself doesn't contain any useful information, just a reference to a .dll file.

  • Can't install Photoshop CS4 in Lion

Hi, I have a new iMac Core i7 that came with Lion installed. We have Creative Suite 4 Design Premium as an upgrade from the original Creative Suite Premium which was itself an upgrade from Photoshop 7. I only want to install Photoshop from CS4. The installer asks for the CS4 serial number which I enter, then it says this is an upgrade so enter the original serial number from CS1 which I then enter. When the install screen comes up all the apps show up except Photoshop. I thought maybe all the information wasn't fitting in the window but there are no scroll bars and the window isn't resizable. We installed this with no problem on the old MacBook Pro but we installed the whole suite. Any idea why Photoshop won't show up? I looked through other forums and Photoshop CS4 seems to work in Lion and in 64 bit so I'm guessing that's not the issue.
    Thanks for any help.

Doh!! Bonehead!! It was a scrolling issue. When I mentioned scrolling in my first post I got to wondering how hard I actually tried to scroll the installation window down. So I tried to install one last time and sure enough there were several more pages of info below the bottom of the window. All is good now. I guess I'm still getting used to all this gesturing stuff in Lion.

  • Can't install photoshop elements 11 on my Mac. Help!!!

Can't install photoshop elements 11 on my Mac. I installed, moved a file (whoops). It stopped working. So I uninstalled it, then tried to reinstall but it wouldn't do it. Is it now locked or something? Can't find any way to contact Adobe for help (!!!!) so would be so so grateful for some advice.

    Hi Jeff,
Great to hear from you! I don't have those answers but I can try
again to reinstall and then let you know. Unfortunately I'm not around
that computer at the moment. If it suits I hope I could send you an
email in the next couple of weeks with that information and if you still
have time you could let me know what you think?
    Many thanks for your time,

  • How do I install Photoshop Elements 6 on the Mac-mini?

How do I install Photoshop Elements 6 on the Mac-mini? I keep getting the following message:
x Installation cannot continue until the following applications are closed:
    flash_server
Please close the application(s) listed above and click "Try Again" to continue the installation. Click Cancel to exit Setup.
How can I resolve this problem without screwing anything up? Your help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Your right. It won't make any sense to subscribe for a software that I don't own. I have CS5 on my Dell Laptop which has been giving me issues, so I re-installed the Operating System along with all my editing programs and nothing more. So I can toggle between the Mac and the PC to get the job done in the meantime. I will eventually get CS6 for the Mac.

  • Can't install photoshop CS3

I need to use an older version of Photoshop. Adobe said it was my mac.
I'm on 10.6.8 and can't install photoshop CS3. I've uninstalled and when I try to install, I get: please insert CS4. Doesn't sound right to me.
I called Adobe and they wanted $69 to fix the problem. They looked at my crash reports and said it was my mac. I was afraid to let them touch my mac so I didn't go for it. He said I will have problems with other Adobe installations if I don't hire them to fix my mac.
Can anyone read crash reports and help me out? I'm not sure which to include, mac or adobe.

It works so so on another computer, but when I want to copy the files there is a pop-up saying that such an action cannot be done.
I still cannot install it even on that computer.
Is there another way? Or am I forced to buy CS3 all over again.
Using Windows Explorer I have copied a CD's files and directories to a directory on my hard drive to install from there... I have NEVER seen a pop-up saying I could not copy the CD's files and directories
