I can't install Quicktime MPEG-2 Component in OS X Lion

Hi friends,
Today, I tryed install Quicktime MPEG-2 Component for use with software 'MPEG Streamclip'. I have a Macbook reformated and with OS X Lion.
But the system alert me: This component can't install in this system, it's for older operative system.
What's I can do?
I have a iMac, with OS X Lion too, but it's not fomated. Before it was installed MPEG-2 Component, and I can use software perfectly.
For example, Can I transfer codec MPEG-2 from iMac to Macbook? Where's installed codec in my iMac?
Thanks very much... and I'm sorry for my english...

You can do in the System Preferences pane, but there is another way: position the mouse pointer on the dividing line between files and applications and drag up or down.

  • Can anyone help? I have downloaded and installed the QuickTime MPEG-2 Component but it doesn't work.

I purchased the QuickTime MPEG-2 component for Quicktime as I am using Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and I want to be able to via MPEG-2 transport streams.
I paid £14.00 - everything downloaded and installed fine but it doesn't work and I am still unable to view the transport streams in Quicktime even though according to the website this is want the component will let me do.
I have rebooted several times, reinstalled both Quicktime and the MPEG-2 component and still nothing.  I have then spent ages going around and around in circles on the website trying to find a way of emailing customer services or technical support to get some assistance but I just always end back in the same place no further forward.
Please can anyone else offer any suggestions - either how I can get it working or how I can get my £14 back from Apple!!

    1) Suggest you reread the "Feature" details for the QT MPEG-2 Playback Component paying particular attention to the paragraph titled "Can transport streams be played?" which clearly states that this codec does NOT support the playback of transport stream (TS) files.
    2) This codec can only be used with "classic" QT apps such as the QT 7 player, GarageBand, or third-party apps like the free MPEG Streamclip app.
    3) The VLC player intrinsically supports TS files. MPEG Streamclip with the QT MPEG-2 Playback Component installed supports TS file playback.
    4) MPEG Streamclip with the QT MPEG-2 Playback Component installed can also resave muxed TS file content as muxed program stream (PS) content which is then "playback" compatible with both QT 7 and QT X players (assuming you select an audio compression format compatible with both) or convert the muxed TS content to QT "edit" compatible compression formats if desired.

Apple seldom makes refunds to people who successfully purchase software which they do not really understand how to use—cavaet emptor. It is difficult to make suggestions here without knowing more about your personal preferences and/or work flow requirements. I personally would keep the codec to enhance various playback, conversion, and editing options on my Mac.

  • Quicktime MPEG 2 Component

    Hello all,
I had to reinstall Tiger recently. I did an archive and install, so that all my prefs would carry across, and anything that didn't would still be in the previous system library. I noticed that a lot of Quicktime plugins fell into this latter category, and I had to copy them across into the new system folder. No problem so far.
But yesterday, when I tried to open a DVD .vob in MPEG Streamclip, which I had always been able to do previously, MPEG Streamclip told me it could open the .vob because the Quicktime MPEG 2 Component was missing. I went to the previous system folder, system/library/quicktime, and sure enough there was the aforementioned component. When i tried to copy it over, though, a dialogue came up with a choice to "authenticate" - but selecting that option did nothing.
I take it now (but correct me if I'm wrong) that this component is installed as part of Quicktime Pro when you have Final Cut Pro intalled on your machine. I do have FCP installed, and retained it of course when I did the archive and install. I've fired up FCP to see if it installs the MPEG 2 component in the current library, but no joy.
I know it's only 20 bucks to buy the QT MPEG 2 component from the Apple store, but I feel like that's a bit of a ripoff seeing as I paid a grand or so for FCS and the component should already be there.
Any tips for how to move QT MPEG 2 Component from my previous system library into the current one, or reinstall it given I have FCS/QT Pro?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Rob

Archive and Install is not an advisable way to reinstall your operating system. It's fine for things like iTunes but it could make more complicated apps like Final Cut Pro unstable.
It might be worth reinstalling Final Cut Studio:

Did it not ask you for an admin password?

  • QuickTime MPEG-2 Component does play mpeg-2 files but without voice

    Hi,
I bought the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component to be able to play MPEG-2 files from Hitachi HDD camera. I did install it and it plays files beautifully, but without voice. As a matter of fact, I can't hear any mpeg-2 audio on any software. If I'm changing the format to MPEG-4 the voice doesn't come back. If I listen to MPEG-4's converted before I installed to software, they are alright.
    HELP needed
    Matti

Muxed audio formats do not export audio when QuickTime is involved.
Use MPEG Streamclip (free) as it can export the audio portion of the file.

  • Quicktime Mpeg-2 Component won't work for Snow Leopard

I just installed this component (v.7.6) to my Macbook for my Quicktime 10. (13-inch, 2006 version) Everything went smoothly and it said it was installed successfully. Yet, I still can't play mpeg-2 videos on my computer and when I went to the Quicktime Components folder under Libraries, there wasn't a Mpeg-2 Component. What did I do wrong?

    Ok.
Just to cover all the bases, is this the apple mpg2 component you installed?
QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component for Mac OS X
Also, maybe instead of using quicktime you might try using another player like vlc.

  • Can't install Quicktime 7.03

Other folks have posted similar problems, but I wanted to provide a little more detail.
I got a nano for xmas and promptly installed itunes. A couple of days ago I got prompted to install itunes 6.02 (?)
I downloaded and tried to install and got the message error -3 quicktime can't install.
Now when I try to run itunes, I'm told that it can't run without quicktime.
    So here's what I've tried...
    turned off my anti-virus software
installed the latest version of directx
dl'ed the stand alone installer of quicktime 7.03
    removed quicktime from the registry
purchased registry mechanic, and let it go at the registry
searched for all files, hidden, system or otherwise, that had the words quicktime or qt in the filename. Deleted any that looked related to quicktime.
searched for all files that were created on the day I first installed itunes, deleted any that looked related to quicktime. (including all plugins)
rebooted the computer into safe mode
    installed the stand alone quicktime
it almost finishes and then says...
1607 unable to install installshield scripting runtime
then it tells me that quicktime is installed and to click finish
when I run itunes it tells me that it requires quicktime and to try installing it
I'm pretty much out of ideas. I guess next I'll try deleting everything apple related from the registry and files, and try reinstalling from the disk in safe mode. (I've tried this once already...and got the error message that it couldn't uninstall quicktime).
    thanks for any help...

This worked for me...(someone else posted this answer)
Download the microsoft uninstaller at this link:
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1b d/msicuu2.exe
Install the program and select quicktime on this list, uninstall it, reinstall 7.03.

  • Can't install quicktime or itunes I recieve error code 2738.  I'm running windows Vista 32 with Service Pack 2.  I have tried old and new version of both programs.  Also, have gone through Apple's online help with no good outcome

Can't install quicktimeor uninstall it for that matter and itunes I receive error code 2738 with both downloads.  I'm running Window Vista with Service Pack 2.  I have check for all window update.  I have gone through Apple itune help list.  Even going into cmd to do regsvr32 vbscript.dll which was successfull. Can you help...my son had to register his ipod at the neighbors house..What going on.
Son even call apple with no help and was give Microsoft number no help there either they wanted me to call HP.....run around

    Excellent news!
Strange how sometimes the fixit works better than the manual methods, and sometimes the manual methods work better than the fixit. It differs from Microsoft fixit to Microsoft fixit too. (Unfortunately, because these "anomalous 2738s" are pretty rare as install errors go, I don't have a good feel yet for whether or not it's the fixit or the manual method that's more likely to work in iTunes/QuickTime installation contexts.)
Afraid I'm not very good on earbud troubleshooting, but fingers crossed the folks over at the iPod communities might be able to help:

  • Can't Install Quicktime

Whenever I try to install Quicktime (needed for itunes) I get the following error message:
    QuickTime Installation Failed:
    Error Code: -3
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

I had the same problem, but I resolved it yesterday. Here's what I did.
    1) Uninstall QuickTime from the Add/Remove Programs control panel.
    2) Clean registry issues with http://www.ccleaner.com/ (freeware). Once installed just click on Applications and put a check mark next to Quick time. (don't skip this step, it is important)
    3) Restart windows.
    4) Turn off any anti-virus programs that are running.
    5) Delete the Quick Time folder, In C:|Program Files
    6) Reinstall QT from the standalone installer
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
I've used all these steps myself but now i get another problem when i install the standalone version of quicktime. I get Error 1402.

  • I can't install QuickTime

A whille ago I uninstalled QuickTime because I didn't think i needed it, but then I learned that I need QuickTime to run Itunes. When I try to install QuickTime again, it goes through the installation but towards the end it has an error. It says there is a resource unavailable, and i need to designate a new path with the installation package 'Quicktime.msi'. I'm not sure what that means, and I don't know what the problem is. I uninstalled the last version straight from the control panel and im installing this one straight from this site. Can anyone help?

It says there is a resource unavailable, and i need to designate a new path with the installation package 'Quicktime.msi'
with that one, let's try the following procedure.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
now try another QuickTime reinstall. does it go through properly this time?

  • QuickTime MPEG-2 Component cant playback High Profile High Level content

Is the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component really unable to playback HP HL content?
Im encoding high bitrate media content to mediaservers with my Mac Pro and have used VLC so far to playback the encoded files.
VLC however doesent loop flawlessly so i decided to try QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component.
To my disappoinment it did not play back the High Profile High Level Mpeg-2 content at all.
It tried, but no image was visible and only a few digital bleeps could be heard from soundtrack.
Why call it a playback component if it cant do the job?

  • Can't install Quicktime - Error "A newer version of quicktime already..."

Hi, I have a Dell XPS running Windows Xp Media edition. Quicktime files would not play so I downloaded the newest version of Quicktime and an error comes up saying, "A newer version of quicktime is already installed. This installation of Quicktime can not proceed while the newer version is installed." I can't find a newer version on the computer and the application seems absent. Only suplimentary Quicktime files are found. Please help.
    Thanks,
    Eric
    Dell XPS   Windows XP

I'm having this exact same problem. I have a Gateway running Windows XP Media Edition.
I can't run quicktime, it says it's not there. I've tried uninstalling using add/remove and it says the uninstall.log file is missing. I tried uninstalling using the QT uninstaller option in its folder, it says the uninstall.log is not there. I tried 'repair' option on the iTunes+QT installer that I downloaded. Still the same issue.
I tried the stand alone QuickTime installer and it tells me "A newer version of quicktime already exists".
I tried deleting the residual quicktime folders from my c:\program files. I tried deleting the residual QT references from my regedit. I downloaded the MS Windows Install Clean Up and looked in there--found 2 more things that could possibly be quicktime related and removed those. I tried again -- same error message.
I'm not sure what else to do. I'd really like to get Quicktime and iTunes working by Christmas so I can sync my shiney new iPod.

  • Can't install Quicktime 7 as won't uninstall Quicktime 6.5

    Hi
Trying to install i-tunes with the new version of quicktime but when it tries to uninstall my current version of quicktime (6.5) the following message appears:
    Could not open key:
HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\windows\current version\uninstall\quicktime. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
How can i uninstall quicktime 6.5 & install the new version? What is a HKEY?
i have contacted both itunes support and pcworld support to no avail. Can anyone HELP, PLEASE!!!
    Thanks

I spoke too soon on that one. Tried everything listed in the certificate to no avail.
6.5 version never did work on that PC. XP SP2, nothing special.
It cannot go on line either. Lightning made sure of that.
I deleted any version trace of it on the PC, Then several attempts of getting the right version for XP.
Download it to a memory card on This Apple Laptop.
Then over to the PC to install.
After the 3rd try with finally the correct version of 7.1.6, we have success.
A bit tough to find a version that worked. You don't know until the version is tried.
There was no direct path searching for 6.5 of what it had and to what came next.
    No Guru God here.
Just trying different sockets from the mixed up tray of choices to set the record straight.

  • Can't Install Quicktime While Installing iTunes

Whenever I try to install QuickTime in the iTunes installation, QuickTime fails to install and I get the following error message:
    QuickTime Installation Failed:
    Error Code: -3
As we all know, no QuickTime, no iTunes. Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

    Try this
I deleted the iTunes folder in MyDocuments/MyMusic (renaming iTunes.old instead of deleting will preserve files)and re-installed and everything appears to work.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1817571&#1817571
Then you can put your music back in the iTunes folder once it gets installed OK.
