I can't install Ubuntu on my Mac

Hi everyone, I hope you can help me with this:
I've downloaded the latest Ubuntu version 32 bit ISO and burned it on a CD using Disk Utility on my MBP. Then I restarted my laptop, held OPT, selected the Ubuntu CD and proceeded to the installation.
After Ubuntu's loading screen, a black screen appeared with the following:
"initramfs unable to find a medium containing a live file system"
I don't know what to do next. What it's wrong?
Take in mind I tried before using Virtual Box and I successfully virtualized it. The problem is that I want to full install it instead of just using virtualization.

The problem with installing Linux is all the Mac issues need to be worked out and people who are more geeky need to do this. Well there isn't a whole lot of Mac > Linux users that technical with newer hardware.
So the object is to install Linux with older proven methods with a older version like 10.10 and then UPGRADE to 11.04 afterwards from within Linux.
Virtualbox is easy, direct installing Linux is a different matter as it requires partitioning the boot drive.
I have a triple boot 15" MacBook Pro with Linux, OS X and Windows. So I can show you how to go about it, but your going to need to read and understand the map if you know what I mean.
1: First backup your OS X data, clone the boot drive to a spare external with the free Carbon Copy Cloner (it's hold option bootable so you can get online and get help), because most likely your going to have to c boot off the Snow Leopard install disk to use Disk Utility to Erase/Format/Partition the boot drive and reinstall OS X Snow Leopard on one of the partitions.
2: Follow these directions for the partition scheme and installation of rEFIt a EFI based "program" to give you a bootloader to select which operating system you want to use, it's the easiest way as Apple's bootcamp won't help you with a Linux install (note you might not be able to make more than one partition while booted from the OS X on the boot drive, thus the c boot off the Snow Leopard install disk like I mentioned above, so backup your DATA!)

Once you get 10.10 upgraded to 11.04 and your Hardware Drivers updated for your video card etc., upon rebooting your 11.04 may drop back into "Classic mode" without the "Unity 3D" effects.

I have a MacBook Air late 2011 still working with OS X Lion (actually OS X 10.7.4).
I just wanted to install Ubuntu 12.04 64 bits on my MacBook Air but I can't and I don't know why. The problem I encounter is the following : each time the DVD-RW burning ends, the disc becomes unreadable by the system and I can't do anything but erase it and try to burn it again… This is the fourth time I did it and it still doesn't works. Impossible to burn the DVD-RW without making it unreadable by the system. And I checked Bootcamp Assistant options but there's nothing about Linux…
I use an original Apple's superdrive to burn the disc.
A friend just told me to use Bootcamp Assistant, install Windows 7 on a new partition, then replace Windows 7 with Ubuntu… But I don't really know what to do. This is the first time that I try to install another system…

I finally did it. In fact, if the DVD wasn't readable by OS X after the burning, he was readable by rEFIt on the superdrive. Me (OS X Lion 4 on a MacBook Air late 2011) and a friend (OS X Mountain Lion 1 on a MacBook Pro of 2008) did it this way :
1. Download the Ubuntu iso named "ubuntu-12.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso".
2. Burn it on a blank DVD with the disk utility.
3. Make a partition for Ubuntu with the disk utility.
4. Install rEFIt.
5. Restart the Mac.
6. Select the icon of Tux behind a little disc.
7. Try Ubuntu from the disc.
8. While trying Ubuntu on the disc, use the installer to install Ubuntu. NOTE: NE CAREFUL WHILE INSTALLING UBUNTU, IF YOU CHOOSE THE WRONG OPTION AT A MOMENT OF THE INSTALLATION YOU CAN ERASE OS X.
9. After the installation, Ubuntu should tell you that you might restart the computer. Restart the Mac, and you'll arrive on the rEFIt menu.
10. You can now use Ubuntu on your Mac, enjoy.
We both did it and it worked well, I even reinstalled Ubuntu and it worked well again. Just be careful while installing Ubunut, I'll maybe repeat myself but choosing the wrong option could suppress OS X. Except if you just want a MacBook Air with Ubuntu for the weight… Have a nice day.

I would expect it would be possible to directly install Ubuntu so the Mac can boot straight in to it but I normally run it in a VM using VirtualBox. It is possible to configure VirtualBox to run at start up and startup the VM all automatically even without a user logged in.
This lets you have both OS X and Ubuntu running.

Get the physical copy (disk) this will enable you to reinstall when (not if ) it messes up.
Make sure to purchase acopy that is compatible with your OSX

that card does not have:
• EFI firmware to show a picture under Mac OS X
• at most two 6-pin aux power cables (the card has one 6 and one 8-pin, and requires BOTH which the Mac Pro cannot accomodate)
Without substantial modification it will not work under Mac OS X.

Sorry for a late reply!
Yes, you can install any late Linux distro on the SSD.
But You need to remove the RAID-config first (suggest using the DISKS utility).
Then you'll have SDA and SDB - depending on BIOS setup the SSD will get either one.
Point the installer to the SSD but make sure to format and set the HDD as your HOME mount point.
That will give you a unit with SSD performance but a large storage.

If it won't download directly, right click and "Save as"
Go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plugins
Trash the Flash Player.plugin file from there
Go to: Mac HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe
Trash the Flash Player folder (the whole folder)
Empty the trash
Reboot
Mount the DMG and run the installer.
BEFORE opening any Flash content in Safari, open Safari>Preferences, and check the Security tab to make sure "Allow all other plugins" is checked.

The dialog window requesting the password is an OS dialog window, it is not a Flash Player window. I understand the confusion, but we can't modify a system dialog window with additional information.

If you're system does not have a password, you should be able to continue the installation with out it. Ignore the password field and click the OK button. If your system does have a password and you don't recall what it is, I recommend Googling something like "reset lost os x password". This search returns many results, and some vary depending on the OS version.

I've spent the morning trying to do this and still no joy. I had flash player already and when trying to use the 4oD website it asked me to download or upgrade flashplayer. I did, the correct version according to my mac version. All goes well and the window message says 'installed successfully'.The only thing I find strange is that just before this message appears I hear the sound of items being put in the 'trash' ... and there they are. Other times the message error -1409 appears. The only icon that appears is the Flash player installer.pkg so not sure whether the application was installed or just the installer! All web searches prompt me to download the missing plug in, both in safari and mozilla. Java script is definitely enabled on both browsers.
I have use the uninstall package three times, restarted the computer, downloaded flash player again but no change.
Forgive my limited use of jargon - this doesn't make any sense to me but I've just spent 3 hours following instructions to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Licenses are platform specific, so the Windows version will only work on the Mac if the Mac has Windows emulation software installed. The other option would be to trade your Windows version for a Mac version, but then you lose the use of it on the Windows machine.
