I can't install windows 7 in bootcamp on mac mini 2011
I have a 2011 Mac mini (no optical drive). I have a brand new Samsung external DVD drive conntected via USB. I put the Windows 7 DVD (64-bit) in the external drive and the Windows support software is on a USB stick that is in a USB port. I partition the drive in the Bootcamp assistant, then when it reboots all I see is a black screen. Nothing happens. The Mac mini is connected to a TV via HDMI.

Did you format the drive to NTFS (using the windows installer tools) yet?

Having problem installing Win7 using Bootcamp on Mac Mini 2011
I'm trying to install Win7 using bootcamp on my new Mac Mini 2011. I first partitionned the disc using Bootcamp assistant. Then during Win7 installation I select Partition 4 BOOTCAMP, format it to NTFS, then when I try to select the drive, it says that the drive is not compatible for the installation.
Is there anything I missed???
ThanksI had a similar problem when I selected upgrade instead of complete install. I want to make sure your aware that you should click the complete option instead of upgrade when you reach that portion of the win7 install. Then you need to select part ion 4 like you have stated and format it to ntfs.
But it seems that you've already done all of that. My advice would be to go back to the Mac side, restore the partition using bootcamp and again partition it. You need at least 25gb of space for 64 bit. I would recommend using at least 40gb. Just trying to help. I apologize if I misunderstood your problems. But make sure you click on the opposite choice of upgrade, I did my mini last night lol but I can't remember the exact name of the option I think it's complete, then select part 4 and click format.... -

HT5628 Is it possible to format entire hard disk and install windows 8 only in mac mini?
Is it possible to format entire hard disk and install windows 8 only in mac mini?
You can, but it's not recommended. If you are going to use Windows all the time, at least give some GBs to OS X, because you will need it to install firmware updates.
Use Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows partition. You can find it in /Applications/Utilities. Then, follow Apple's steps to install Windows 8 > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf You must use a 64-bit version, and note that not all Mac minis support Windows 8. Check if yours is supported > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Boot Camp Assistant will ask you to download the Windows support software onto a USB drive. You will need to install it in Windows, so it's very important to download it. If not, you will have problems in Windows.
If your Mac doesn't support Windows 8, install the Windows version the site gives you -
Can I install more memory on a mac mini
Can I install more memory on a mac mini?
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Of course. You can upgrade the RAM always that you do not have a Late 2014 Mac mini (I am not sure that you can install more RAM, and if you can, it will void the warranty), and you can purchase more RAM at OWC or Crucial.

Installing WIndows 7 onto a Mac Mini that does not have an internal optical drive.
Has anyone had any success in installing WIndows 7 onto a Mac Mini via Boot Camp using either a USB stick or an external SuperrDrive?
Option 1: Get a USB "Super Drive" and use it to install windoze.
Option 2: Use Parallels Desktop to run windoze.
Option 3: Wait for someone who knows more than I do to tell you how to do it using magic. -
How can I install windows 8 on a mac without superdrive?
Hi there.
I have an old Macbook pro (early 2007) which is still quite good, except from the superdrive which got broken.
I would like to completely wipe out OSX (Lion) from that and install Windows 8 instead.
Problem is, I cannot install it from optical drive, since it's broken (and plus, I don't have access to an external drive).
Is it even possible to install windows 8 from USB on this computer? If so, what should I do?
Thank you!You can only install Windows from an external disc drive or an USB drive in one of these computers:
- MacBook Pro with Retina display.
- MacBook Air.
- iMac (Late 2012).
- Mac mini (Mid 2010 and newer).
As you don't have any of these computers, you need the SuperDrive to install Windows 8. In your case, you have to install a SuperDrive in your MacBook Pro in order to install Windows by using Boot Camp -

Installing windows XP on a mac mini
Hi All,
I have installed windows XP on four macs now and have never experienced a problem whatsoever however on my 5th attempt the following is happening and i wondered if anybody can help?
I partition the hard drive using boot camp no problem then i click on the start installation still no problem the blue box appears and starts to install windows files this then brings you to the screen were you can select the partion to install xp to so i scroll down to my partition and press enter now it is here were the problems seem to start when i press enter rather than taking me to the screen which lets you select what format to carry out on the partition in it starts the installation therefore not formating the partition in the correct format and as a result windows will not start!
Please can somebody assist with this?Which Mini? Is BC drive external or a BC 2nd partition on your internal?
I just installed Vista on my new Mini '09. Used BC to install 80Gb partition, launched Vista installer. When it came drive selection, I did select the BC partition, and selected format option. The installer didn't go to a DOS like selection window, I thought because of only 1 partition available, but now I think that's just Vista, and not having a DOS like installer. Hope this helps. -

Can't install windows on bootcamp partition
Hi, I got a problem hehe. When I use bootcamp to creat a partition, the windows installation does not reconize the partition. The only parition I can install on is a "patition1" with 131Go... But my hard drive is a 250Go and the parition I created is 32Go so I dont know where they took this 131Go.
Anyway I found that when I creat a big parition... suppose 100Go the Windows installation reconize it. A 100go parition is in NTFS and a 32Go one is in FAT32.
So the question is: How to creat a 32Go NTFS partition with OS X.5.1 or any way to install windows XP on my macbook.
Thanks, Pascal. Are you sure your XP is a full install and SP2?

Can I use windows 7 on my Mac mini 2.1 with bootcamp?
I have a Mac Mini 2.1 running OS 10.5.8, and an unspecified version of bootcamp. Currently using Windows XP. I want to upgrade to Windows 7. Can I do this? If so, do I need 32 bit version or 64 bit version?
Just a heads up, you don't need to run bootcamp to install windows on a Mac (if you want it to be the primary OS)
I have a Core 2 Duo Mac mini running Win7 x64 without any issues. I will check which model it is later.
It has 5 USB, FW 800, and displayport + mini displayport (if that helps identify the model) -
Can I install windows 8 on my mac without any previous versions of windows
I am planning on installing windows on my mac.(Never done that before).
As I am in my final year of my degree I need to use a lot of softwares only available for windows.
My only concern is that will I be able to install Windows 8 (as its the latest version) without any older versions on my Mac?
Or any alternatives? Thanks Csound1 and Allan Eckert.
I will take note of this.
I can wait however long it takes for windows 8 to be supported by boot camp.
