I can't install windows 8.1 on bootcamp

It downloaded as WindowsSetupBox.exe which is not compatible with bootcamp. Is there a way to get a legal ISO version of windows 8.1 or perhaps another way to install it?
MY SPECS:
Late 2013 MacBook Pro with Retina Display 15" (got it like 4 days ago)
Geforce GT 750m
2.6GHz Intel i7 quad core processor
16GB Memory
500GB Hard Drive

You need to run that file on a windows machine.
It will ask you for your product key.
As you progress through the screens it gives you the option to download the iso or make a usb drive install.
I haven't been able to install windows 8.1 either. The windows install fails on me shortly after choosing which drive to install windows on. I can't remember the error message.
Any help on that would be appreciated.

Can I install Windows XP SP1 with Bootcamp on my new Mac Mini 2011 i7 ?

Baiscally if your Mini came with Lion Pre-installed new then No you can't use XP.
The Lion installed computers no longer support XP OR Vista via Apple's Boot Camp.
For one thing Apple only supported XP with SP2 in order to install it on pre Lion computers.
If the Mini had come pre-installed new with say 10.6 then you could have installed XP and still of been able to upgrade to Lion without any issues as you already have the drivers for XP installed. Lion only has the drivers for W7.

  • Can I install Windows 8.1 as Bootcamp partition from OSX Mountain Lion using a USB stick?

    I have the following:
Bootable USB stick with Windows 8.1 - 64 bit
MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion 10.8.5 - it's probably 3-4 years old.
The Bootcamp partition currently has Windows 7 installed.
I want to know whether I can install Windows 8.1 from a USB stick into a Bootcamp partition. Apple's article on the topic refers to Bootcamp 5.1, but my OSX install has Bootcamp 5.0 - I am assuming 5.1 comes with the Mavericks version.  I don't want to upgrade to Mavericks because I am running out of space as it is on the OSX partition.
Thus my question. So can I?

Your laptop has a DVD drive, right? If so you need to burn your ISO to a disc, will not work off USB

  • Can I install windows again without using bootcamp to create the usb boot?

Hi, I have installed Windows 7 on my Mac with Bootcamp, but the free space Disk on my Windows partition is full.
Is there any way of install Windows 7 again if I have the usb with Bootcamp Tools and Windows ISO installed yet?
    Thanks,
    Regards.

If you already have built the USB with BC drivers and Windows ISO, run BCA and use the last option. It may say Remove or Install, depending on whether you already have Windows in your disk or not. If the installation is incomplete, use BCA to delete the current partition and start over again.

  • Can't install Windows 7 Ultimate with Bootcamp (Lion)

    Hello,
Any help with this would be much appreciated. I have a freshly installed copy of Lion installed on my Mid-2007 iMac. Everything's updated, I prepare my Bootcamp installation and, hiccup, it doesn't detect my Windows 7 Ultimate DVD because it's on an external optical drive. The internal one's busted and disconnected. I tried rEfit, to no avail since it doesn't seem to work with Lion. Does anyone know if a bootable USB drive would work? I could create one, but not with the Bootcamp utility since it's greyed out and not available for my system.
Ultimately, I'm just trying to get a copy of Windows running to work with some old proprietary software. XP or 7 would do. If someone thinks a fresh install of Snow Leopard and an install of XP with an external optical drive would work, I'd definitely do it.
    Thanks for your help

What year/model is this Mac? If you select the first and second option, can you create the USB with a Windows ISO and BC drivers?
Unless you have a valid BC partition on your disk, the last option will not work.
Please post the output from Terminal of the following commands.
    diskutil list
    diskutil cs list
    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

    Hi Armin.S,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of your question. If you are asking about the system requirements for running various versions of Windows under Bootcamp, or just more generally how to set up Bootcamp on your Mac, you may find the following articles/pages helpful:

  • How can i install windows games in my macbook pro

I m a game lover but since i've macbook pro,i haven't played any game on my macbook...so guys please tell me how can i install windows games to my macbook pro.

As eww said, that computer isn't specifically made for gaming. To get advanced graphics in a game, your computer needs what is called a "discrete" graphics processor, or GPU. This means a seperate chip that processes graphics. In Apple laptops, these are only found in the 15" and 17" MacBook Pro. It is not common to find these in laptops in general that are not expensive and high-end. What you have in yours is an "on-board" or "integrated" GPU. This means that graphics processing is done by a small portion of your main processor (the Intel i5 board). This takes away a portion of primary prossessing and dedicates it to graphics. This works perfectly find in most scenarios, but video rendering, gaming, and 3-D graphics tend to suffer. Most high-end, modern games require discrete GPUs to run at full quality these days.
As far as running Windows 7 and Mac OS both, yes you absolutely can. If you install Windows 7 via Bootcamp (this would require you to have a Windows 7 CD), when you turn on your computer it will default to opening up in Mac OS. But if you hold down the Option key (bottom of the keyboard next to the Command button) while the computer is booting up, it will ask you if you want to open Windows or Mac OS.

  • How can I install windows 8 on a mac without superdrive?

    Hi there.
I have an old Macbook pro (early 2007) which is still quite good, except from the superdrive which got broken.
I would like to completely wipe out OSX (Lion) from that and install Windows 8 instead.
Problem is, I cannot install it from optical drive, since it's broken (and plus, I don't have access to an external drive).
Is it even possible to install windows 8 from USB on this computer? If so, what should I do?
    Thank you!

You can only install Windows from an external disc drive or an USB drive in one of these computers:
    - MacBook Pro with Retina display.
    - MacBook Air.
    - iMac (Late 2012).
    - Mac mini (Mid 2010 and newer).
As you don't have any of these computers, you need the SuperDrive to install Windows 8. In your case, you have to install a SuperDrive in your MacBook Pro in order to install Windows by using Boot Camp

  • I can't install Windows 8.1 on my Imac with Mavericks using Bootcamp. Why?

I can't install Windows 8.1 on my Imac 27" with Mavericks using Bootcamp. Why? I first did all the software updates needed, downloaded the driver software to a 32Gb flash drive formatted as FAT32, fired up Bootcamp Assistant, inserted the Windows 8.1 Full version 64 bit installation DVD as requested, and got as far as partitioning (tried this at 82 Gb for the Windows partition), then the MAC rebooted but halted before getting to the login page. Then a black screen came up with the error message: 'non-system disk - Press any key to reboot'. I did this and nothing happened. I was forced to shut down forcibly then restart with my finger held down on the option key. Then a screen came up with two icons: the macintosh HD icon and the Windows DVD icon. I double-clicked on the Windows DVD icon and the MAC came up with another black screen and error message: 'CDBoot: Couldn't find BOOTMGR'. Had to shut down forcibly again and restart as before, this time ejecting the Windows DVD first. Then I repartitioned my MAC back to all OSX. What the **** do I do now? Applecare couldn't help me beyond this point. They said to contact Microsoft. I notice a lot of other MAC owners have had similar problems.
    Please help? tagjsmith.

Your issue is completely different. You are running Snow Leopard. There is no download for Windows Support software for Snow Leopard, hence the error you see. Snow Leopard Windows Support software is on the Snow Leopard installation disk.
You need the Snow Leopard installation disk or a replacement for it.

  • LaserJet 2550n network printer on XP host PC, can't install Windows 7 client laptop

Have Color LaserJet 2550n network printer connected to XP host PC. I can't install  Windows 7 client laptop for printer. The wireless network is fine, I can access documents back and forth, merely the printer doesn't work and there's no way to download 64bit drivers for this printer from HP.

    Resolved, not solved.
I talked to HP product support. The Officejet Pro 8500 A910 will not install on Windows XP (at least the Home Edition) when networked through a router. It will install through USB. I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it with only USB connected to clean out all the network printer/scanner information. Product support claimed it would install through an ether net cable connected between the printer and computer but this does little good if you need internet access.

  • Can I install windows home server 2011 on a mac mini?

    Hey guys and girls...
Can I install windows home server 2011 on a mac mini? If so how?

WHS is 64-bit. Genius are really not versed in Boot Camp or Windows, let alone anything not on the "approved" list of Windows versions.
Most of the problems are with burning ISO, or the SuperDrive. It should have seen the NTFS partition. Disk Utility is known to be trouble, burning it on your Mac Mine but iwth Windows 7....?
Seeing you have Windows 7, format the partition to NTFS 160GB you want and then exit and boot WHS installer.
Or run the install from Windows 7.
In past, WHS supported TimeMachine, streaming video, supported iTunes (that was broken/disabled it seems by Apple with 10.0), as well as even SuperDuper backups.
Main idea is to have some network attached drives.

I have both a ISO and Burned it to a dvd useing windows 7 built in ISO burning software, Its a 64 bit copy (got from microsoft download website from my dads microsoft account).
It is enouth for the OS but it runs slowish on the mac mini (latest core 2 duo 2.4ghz model) The Idea was to have it backup my pc and laptop to a usb drive and act as a media centre pc (connected to av receaver and tv and on a gigabit network with a 2TB nas)
Since it looks like this may not work, whats the best way to make it into a media centure? mac osx? windows 7? plex? whats best and good?
I'd avoid USB like the plague. Why not use your PC instead? If I was going to use a Mini for WHS, I'd just use the Mini solely for Windows and not have OS X (you can boot OS X off an external drive anyway).

  • Can i install windows 7 via bootcamp (MB Air) while using remote disc? I put the windows 7 disk in my macbook pro drive, and connect to my brand new macbook air. In bootcamp i allocate the partition then i click install and bootcamp will not see the disk.

Can i install windows 7 via bootcamp (on my MB Air) while using remote disc? I put the windows 7 disk in my macbook pro drive, and connect to my brand new macbook air via remote disk. In bootcamp (on my air) i allocate the partition, then i click install, and bootcamp will not see the disk from my macbook pro's drive. How do i get the bootcamp assistant running on my MB air to automatically find the disk in my macbook pro with the ISO image of windows 7? The remote disk on my air can find the cd but bootcamp will not begin installing it. Anyway to do this without buying the damned usb drive?

I don't know first hand if you can use the Remote Disk option with Windows but as of 10.7.2 you can now use BCAssistant to make a bootable USB (thumb drive or external disk) W7 installer with the Boot Camp drivers installed also. Have you tried that yet?
