I can't install Windows 8.1 on my Imac with Mavericks using Bootcamp. Why?

I can't install Windows 8.1 on my Imac 27" with Mavericks using Bootcamp. Why? I first did all the software updates needed, downloaded the driver software to a 32Gb flash drive formatted as FAT32, fired up Bootcamp Assistant, inserted the Windows 8.1 Full version 64 bit installation DVD as requested, and got as far as partitioning (tried this at 82 Gb for the Windows partition), then the MAC rebooted but halted before getting to the login page. Then a black screen came up with the error message: 'non-system disk - Press any key to reboot'. I did this and nothing happened. I was forced to shut down forcibly then restart with my finger held down on the option key. Then a screen came up with two icons: the macintosh HD icon and the Windows DVD icon. I double-clicked on the Windows DVD icon and the MAC came up with another black screen and error message: 'CDBoot: Couldn't find BOOTMGR'. Had to shut down forcibly again and restart as before, this time ejecting the Windows DVD first. Then I repartitioned my MAC back to all OSX. What the **** do I do now? Applecare couldn't help me beyond this point. They said to contact Microsoft. I notice a lot of other MAC owners have had similar problems.
Please help? tagjsmith.

How do I install windows 7 on a macbook pro mid 2009 using bootcamp and no optical drive?
My optical drive is non-functional and I want to dual boot with win7. The only problem is my macbook does not boot from USB at all, even when I hold th ALT key down when it is starting up.
-I have a flashdrive with win7 on it.
-I mounted the ISO of win7 with toast for bootcamp to do its thing.

    Good luck.

  • HT4410 I have just installed Windows 7 64-bit full version Home Premium using Bootcamp and cannot get access to the internet. I installed on a Macbook Air Mid 2012 with Mountain Lion. Are there some drivers that are missing from the Windows 7

Dear Apple. I have just installed Windows 7 64-bit full version Home Premium using Bootcamp and cannot get access to the internet. I installed on a Macbook Air Mid 2012 with Mountain Lion. Are there some drivers that are missing from the Windows 7 bootcamp install download from Apple

It is a Total Misconception that the Support files are installed when you are installing Windows, even if the USB drive that holds them is inserted in the system when doing the Windows install.
You must always Run the Setup.exe files from the support files or run the drivers individually once Windows has finished installing and booted to the desktop.
Also you really need to run the Boot Camp Control Panel Applet and check for updates as not all the newest drivers for full function of all the hardware is included with the original support download. That download is basically a generic version to get the system working and without doing the updates not everything will work properly.

  • Can't install Windows in 21.5-inch iMac.

I have a 21.5 inch iMac. I used to have Windows on it with the help of Bootcamp, but when i tried to reinstall it after stupidly removing it, it didn't work. I have tried a lot of ways of reinstalling it. After upgrading from snow leopard my Superdrive stopped working so I couldn't install from a Windows DVD. So I tried to install it with a Windows USB, but it just wouldn't want to boot from it even when I tried to do it with rEFIT. I even tried copying all the files from a Windows computer to a partition I made. I was so desperate I installed Windows on my sister's Macbook with a USB (which was suprisingly easy to do) and tried to copy all those files to a partition I made.
Just now I downloaded a copy of snow leopard (because my snow leopard DVD cannot be read by my Superdrive) in the hope my Superdrive would be fixed that way. I put it on a USB and booted from it but nothing happened. It just froze on the white screen with the apple in the middle.
When I tried to use parrallels I couldn't get directx to work and frankly I prefer to have my Windows working at full speed.
    Any suggestions?

Reboot Windows into safe mode, see if it works then, if yes your problem is caused by something installed (3rd party) in your user account in Windows.

  • How can I install Windows 7 on a Retina MBP with no optical drive?

I'd like to install Windows 7 on a Retina MacBook Pro via Boot Camp.
However, the only distribution of Windows I'm aware of is on a physical disk.
My MBP doesn't have an optical drive. It can't read disks like that.
I'm hoping there's some kind of workaround here, because I'd hate to spend money on an external optical drive I'm only going to use once.
Does Microsoft offer a way to buy Windows 7 via a download?
If so, can I then copy the downloaded installer that onto an external USB hard drive and install from there?
Or is the only option to buy an external optical drive? (If that's the case, any guidance on which one to buy -- can I get away with a generic one or do I need to shell out $80 for Apple's "Superdrive?")
I actually have another Mac that does have an optical drive. Could that help me out somehow?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Can I install windows on my early 2008 iMac?

I really want to get a software called Training Peaks running on my early 2008 iMac, but it appears that I can no longer get a version of Windows which is compatible.
Is this correct? Is there a way around the problem?

Compatible version of Windows for your Mac or for that software you want to run on Windows.
You can install Windows 7 using Boot Camp or you could install a virtual machine software program and install Windows XP into a Virtual Machine. But you would need a retail or System Builders copy of either XP or 7 to do either of those installs.

  • Can I install Windows XP on a new macbook with lion preinstalled?

I have a fully licensed version of windows XP that I used for snow leopard, but bootcamp on my new macbook air only recognizes windows 7.
    A) can I install XP and skip 7? How?
    B) if not, can I buy a windows 7 upgrade and somehow use my licenced XP as a baseline?  If so, how?
    C) It would suck if I have to buy another full version of windows 7 just because I upgraded to Lion.
    D) Would it be worth removing lion from my new macbook, installing snow leopard, then installing XP and then upgrading to Lion? How bass ackwards would that be?
    Thanks!!!

Apple doesn't supply any drivers for new Mac Sandy Bridge for XP, and you do need drivers.

  • Can't Install windows on Macbook Pro Early 2011 with SSD upgrade

    Dear all,
A few months ago I had an SSD upgrade and I purchased a Caddy and installed my old HDD on it, and I also changed my Battery because the old one only lasted for 15 inutes after 40 cycles :O
Anyways when I insert a windows 7 or 8 x64 DVD in my USB Samsung DVD Drive, My mac book detects Windows (with the windows 7 DVD) and Detects Windows and EFI Boot (with Windows 8),  I have tried every option of those doesn't work.
With EFI it just boots Mac
With Windows it boots to a screen with one blinking cursor top left and then it ejects the DVD ROM and that it :s
I do not know what is wrong :/
P.S. when i installed the SSD I had windows on the old drive it didn't work after the upgrade (this is what made me link both incidents).

I am willing to try this, but I was kinda trying to find a solution that doesn't need me to unscrew stuff ..etc

I would also suggest re-posting on the Boot Camp forum, that is where most of the Boot Camp and Windows gurus hang out. This is a general iMac forum where most users tend to use OS X only.
    Good luck.

  • Can't install windows XP to a macbook pro with an Intel X25-M SSD

    It's a strange problem:
We just bought some new unibody macbook pro 2.8Ghz machines, (4GB ram)etc. We also obtained some of the new Solid State Drives (SSDs) from Intel, the X25M-80GB.
    (part number: SSDSA2MH080G1C5)
After installing the SSD into the macbook pro, everything works.....in OSX. Installation of 10.5.5 went without problem, all updates/firmware applied, everything works fine.
The problems start when you try to install XP. We used the boot camp assistant, and created a 32GB partition, put in a XPSP2 disk, and start the installation.
Everything starts up nicely and goes to the blue/white text based installer for XP. It loads drivers, and then reaches the point where it would ask you to select a disk to install to (where you would normally see the three partitions, 1 being the FAT32 you select as C:).
However, what you get instead is an error message that: +"Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer...."+ and then you have to exit.
If you use the original 320GB drive, everything works as expected, (nothing wrong with the laptop hardware, or the installation CD). If you stay in OSX, everything works as expected. (nothing wrong with the Intel SSD either)
To further add information, we also installed the Intel SSD into a Mac Pro (2008) as a second drive, booting to a windows installation (through boot camp) on the first disk. Windows boots fine, but there is no sign of the other drive AT ALL. (not a driver issue here - there simply isn't any hardware here as far as windows is concerned.)
That brought us to our conclusion that there is something awry in the BIOS/EFI
being presented to Windows, that doesn't support the Intel X25M drive at all.
However, there is no user customisation (or even access) to the settings or what's happening at that point in the boot cycle, so I'm unable to diagnose further.
Given the Intel SSDs are using their SOC (system on a chip), (I believe - but I could be wrong on that one) perhaps that just isn't supported by the EFI?
Would appreciate some advice on where to go from here? These SSDs cost about 1400AUD+ each, so we'd rather like to actually use them....
I suspect we're asking/requiring for an EFI update.
(to head off some questions: Yes, we've used different discs, and also different computers...The disk and hardware themselves are just fine. Also, the drive WAS formatted with a GPT paritition.)
    Thanks!

From reading Vista forums support for SSD is one of the things Vista SP2 and Windows 7 hope (need) to improve upon. I was in a similar discussion once befoe on SSDs:

I don't think it is EFI issue, but with XP and drivers, lack, and wonder if you can try with Vista?
    http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080908-intel-tosses-hat-into-ssd-ring-wit h-80gb-launch.html
That won't solve performance issues, but should work.

"My guess is that [Samsung and Microsoft] are maybe working on the OS recognizing an SSD with a 4K-byte sector size instead of a hard disk drive with a 512-byte sector size," Wong said.
Sun is already working with Samsung to bulk up SSD support on the ZFS (Zettabyte File System), which is included in the Solaris OS, and will also be supported in Apple's upcoming Mac OS X 10.6, codenamed Snow Leopard. Sun is adding capabilities to boost the durability and performance of SSDs on ZFS-based operating systems. For example, Sun may add defragmentation capabilities for SSDs, which organizes data in a particular order to enable quicker data access.
SSDs were not considered ideal for defragmentation because of limited read-and-write capabilities, Wong said. However, Samsung and Sun in July jointly announced an 8G-byte SSD that bumped up durability from 100,000 read-and-write cycles to 500,000. That brings defragmentation in SSDs closer to reality, which could improve its caching and provide quicker access to data. Sun plans to put SSDs into storage products later this year.

For a KMShost with the OS=WS2012R2, you cannot, and, there is no need to, install any other Windows KMShost keys. The WS2012R2 KMShost key, by itself, will activate the KMShost OS, and will also enable the issuing of activations for ALL Windows KMSclients.
Office KMS features are different, and do need to be installed for Office KMSclient activations.
The error you are experiencing is expected, and is a result of your attempt to perform an unnecessary configuration step.
