I can't join a certain wifi network

I am using an iPhone 6 Plus.  Up until recently (this week), I had no problem automatically joining the WiFi network at my gym.  All of a sudden, for a reason I cannot understand, my phone shows  I am connected to the gym's WiFi network; that is, I can see the name of the network and the WiFi logo on the right and a check mark next to the name on the left. The WiFi logo does not appear, however, on the home screen.  My phone passes to the LTE 4G network, and sometimes even to the 3G network.  My mobile service is with Verizon Wireless.  I tried to explain the problem to them, and they believe the issue is not with Verizon but rather with Apple.
Up until this week, I never had an issue.  Now if I turn off the "Cellular Data" feature, I lose the ability to go into the Internet at all.  I use a fitness application on my phone that requires an Internet connection, and I was able to use the gym's WiFi network to link to the fitness server.
I'm under the impression that the upgrade to iOS 8.1.2 has resulted in this problem.  Can anyone shed any light on this issue?  Would it help to visit a "Genius" at my local Apple Store?

Hi, razmee209 -
I don't think it's an issue with the gym's wifi network because I had no problem last week.  Also another gym patron (who has ATT) had no problem joining the gym's WiFi network.  Thanks for your answer.

  • HT1695 Did iOS 6.0.2 update, but still can't connect to certain WiFi networks.  FIX THIS, APPLE!

    Like the subject line says, I installed the 6.0.2. update with my fingers crossed, but my iPhone 5 still doesn't connect to certain networks.  Of course, Apple in their "Troubleshooter" sends me to an article telling me how to connect to a WiFi network, and to reset Network settings (which I've done numerous times).
    This happens in a local coffee shop, and one odd thing is that the owner thinks he has his router set to require a password, but none of my devices show it to be a secured network (though it was and did require a password when I initially joined the network).
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    We have the same problem here at the university campus. See my post
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4322372
    We hope that Apple will release a fixed iOS 6-Version soon.

  • I've tried everything and still am unable to join my own wifi network from my iPhone 4s

    I have an AirPort Extreme running the latest software. I've tried everything and still am unable to join my own wifi network from my iPhone 4s, iPhone 3Gs, iPhone 3G, my girlfriend's iPhone 4. The only devices that will connect to the network are our MacBook Pros and iPads, (1 and 2). I have reset the airport to default settings, I've restored my iPhone, I've even disabled the password. I am still unable to join my open airport extreme wifi network. PLEASE HELP!

    Saying you tried everything isn't helpful. Perhaps describing in detail what you've done would allow people to better assist you.
    If you're ever experiencing strange problems connecting to any wifi point you can always try resetting your network settings on your iPhone itself. This solves the majority of wifi problems.
    To do this go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will clear all of your saved wifi hotspots and passwords, and hopefully solve your issue.
    Please try this and respond with your results.

  • TS1398 i cannot join my home wifi network

    i cannot join my home wifi network even after restarting network settings. it gives error unable to join the network. but i can join wifi at other place. and my another phone is accessing wifi at home. i restart the router all basic troubleshoot i have done but yet in vain. please someone help me out.

    Does the iPod connect to other networks?
    Does the iPod see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
    Did the iPod connect before?
    Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Try changing the security on the router. Starts with no security as a test.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Can't Connect to any WiFi network

    I just got my iPhone yesterday and I'm already having a serious problem,I can't connect to any WiFi networks.
    I can see the networks around me and I can select networks that I've setup and I know are open or I know the security passwords, I can even enter the network passwords for the ones that require them and it accepts them without complaint. When I select a network I get a little check mark next to that network which I assumes means it should be connected to that network. However, the iPhone never actually connects to them, i.e. no IP address, no router no nothing in the network settings screen for each network, and always appears to the using the Edge wireless network when accessing the internet.
    I've tried DHCP and static IP but neither works.
    I updated the phones software to 1.1.4, has anybody reported problems like this with this or any version of the software.
    Any help would be much appriciated.
    If I can't get this resolved today I'm returning to the AT&T store tonight for a new one.
    Thanks
    Matt S.

    theevilone,
    I have personally used an iPhone with routers from D-Link, Netgear, Linksys, Apple and Belkin.
    Some routers, regardless of manufacturer need to have their firmware updated. Generally speaking if you look at the release notes, the same updates that resolve issues with DHCP for game systems and PDAs, also resolves them for the iPhone.
    In addition hardware or MAC address filtering can cause issues where you connect to the network and not get DHCP.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • MBP can't find one specific wifi network.

    The hotel where I live offers free wifi (The Cloud) and for months I've been using with full signal.
    Suddenly my MBP (mid 2010) was unable to find this network.
    My iPad and my iPhone (and friend's devices) are still connecting at any time with perfect full signal.
    I've tried holding alt+cmd+P+R at boot to reset PRAM and NVRAM but it still can't find that specif wifi network.

    Update: after another NVRAM and PRAM reset (alt+cmd+P+R) the wifi network shows up but I'm still unable to connect to it. When selected I've got a message of "connection timeout occurred" and the network disappears again.
    *All software is up to date.

  • I am unable to join my own wifi network with new iphone 5

    I am unable to join my own wifi network with new iphone 5.  It has the latest software downloaded too.  Keeps saying unable to join network after I type in the password.  All my other devices are able to join but just not the iphone.  I've called Verizon and my internet provider and they have been unable to help.  I had no problems with my iphone 4 with this very same issue.  Please help or I'll be forced to return this phone.  I have 13 days left.

    Try power-cycling your router (unplug for 15 seconds, then plug back in), then on your phone go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Reset Network Settings, and try joining your network again.  Note: resetting network settings will erase passwords for previously joined networks on your phone.

  • HT1695 I am trying to set up my new iPad (1st time owner) and it tells me it is unable to join my home wifi network. What do I do now?

    I am trying to set up my new iPad (1st time owner) and it tells me it is unable to join my home wifi network. What do I do now? This is the only wifi network I have...

    Additional things to try.
    Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

    Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • TS1398 Update iPhone 4s to 6.1.3 (10B329) now I can't connect to any wifi networks at home or at work and all car Bluetooth systems will not connect either. Help! Extremely annoyed at apple for putting out software that causes such mayhem.

    My iPhone 4s has been update as I said in subject bar.. Now can't connect to any of my cars Bluetooth systems. Also even more frustratingly can't connect to any wifi networks at home or work!!
    How can apple put out such an update that causes so much grief and inconvenience to hundreds of people. Not to mention risking lives with Bluetooth kits not working...outraged!!!!!!

    First, grow up.  Just because YOUR phone isn't working, doesn't mean Apple put out bad software.  I've not had any difficulty, nor has anyone else I know.  And just how is Apple risking lives with Bluetooth kits not working?  It's YOUR decision to talk on the phone or text and drive.  Not Apple's.

  • Unable to join certain wifi networks

    I have a 64GB 5S on iOS 8.1 and over the past several months I've noticed that I can't join some wifi networks. I have no problem with the type that prompt for a password, but if there's a browser window opened and I have to agree to terms (usually seen on store networks like Publix, Lowe's, etc.) the page just won't load. So I'm now completely unable to join these networks. I usually get an error message eventually about the request timing out. I don't have issues with any other unauthenticated or simple password-protected networks.
    I've looked and I haven't seen anyone report quite this issue. I noticed it before the iOS 8 updates, so I don't think that's the culprit. I've tried turning the wifi off and on with no avail. I really hoping not to have to do a restore or anything like that on the off chance it will fix the issue, but at this point I'm open to suggestions.

    I'm guessing these retail establishments require a login page to access their Wi-Fi? For ones that require a login, if it does not open automatically, opening a new tab in Safari has always created the prompt for me. You can try some troubleshooting, but it appears this has been going on for some time. You can try going to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network settings and see if that helps. If not, then you can try a restore, or make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple Store to have the hardware checked.

  • Why can't I select preferred wifi networks

    why can't I select preferred wifi networks

    I don't know how to block the other wireless access points to show on the list, but from what you said, you want to let it connect to one of your preferred network whenever one is available, connect it automatically.
    before you change anything, let run the following command in Terminal to show your Mac current settings:
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Versions/A/Resources/airp ort en1 prefs
    copy what it returned.
    mine returned:
    AirPort preferences for en1:
    DisconnectOnLogout=NO
    JoinMode=Preferred
    JoinModeFallback=Prompt
    RememberRecentNetworks=YES
    RequireAdminIBSS=NO
    RequireAdminNetworkChange=YES
    RequireAdminPowerToggle=YES
    WoWEnabled=NO
    That's the default behaviour of OS X, we don't care for what reason it was changed on your Mac. Lets reset it.
    in Terminal, run the following command:
    sudo /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Versions/A/Resources/air port en1 prefs JoinMode=Preferred JoinModeFallback=Prompt RememberRecentNetworks=YES
    it may ask you to put admin password, and do so, press enter to continue.
    Explain a little bit.
    The JoinMode=Preferred means, it will connect your preferred network when it's available.
    JoinModeFallback=Prompt: if no preferred network around, it will prompt you to choose. if you want you can select other options:
         JoinOpen
         KeepLooking
         DoNothing
    RememberRecentNetworks=YES: it will remember whatever network it joined before, put it in your preferred network. If you want, set it to No.
    you can get the details of airport command by run:
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Versions/A/Resources/airp ort
    Hope this help.

  • Third-Party apps can't connect to public wifi  networks.

    When I connect my iPhone to my university's Wi-Fi connection, Apple Apps (Safari, Mail, iTunes, App Store...) all function normally. But when it comes to third-party apps I can't get them to connect to the internet. So is there a workaround to this? Maybe get iPhone to treat apps as an "Apple App" so the proxy server gives it access to the connection (The server requires a username and password verification to connect). This happens with other public wi-fi connections. I dunno if I'm giving all the necessary info. so if anything is unclear, I can explain further...
    Thanks

    You don't give any examples of the apps that are not working.
    Some public WiFi networks will only have certain network ports open, like those for web and mail. If an app uses an unusual network port then it may not work on the public WiFi network.
