I can't log into ichat, it wants me to enter an aim password, i don't have one?

When I log into ichat it always says "ichat was unable to login to AOL instant messenger because your screen name or pasword was incorrect." I dont understand, when I created the account it never said any thing about AOL accounts. I've tried entering my apple account username and password, and I've also tried creating an AOL account. Neither of which have worked

You can use an AIM (Or AOL) as AIM stands for AOL Instant Messenger.
Apple have an agreement with AIM that @Mac.com and Mobileme/iCloud (*@me.com) Names are also valid AIM Screen Names.
However the Passwords must be kept to 16 characters or less due to the limits on the AIM servers.
Other Apple IDs are not Valid Screen Names unless you specifically Register them with AIM - OR they belong to another Service which iChat can access and are valid as Chat names with that Service.

To anyone with the same problem described above, on THEIR iPad (if it is running iOS 7.0.2):
Go to Settings; Mail, Contacts, Calendars; DELETE your *******@btinternet.com e-mail account, that you originally set up either using 'Other', or the 'BT' option which I am sure was in the list previous to the iOS 7 update.
Then ADD a NEW account choosing YAHOO from the list of options. DO NOT USE 'OTHER'.
Enter the correct details just as you (almost certainly) had already done in your previous attempts using 'other'.
When you see the 'verifying......' and 'the blue ticks' you should be able to exit settings and open your mail app and then receive all your 'old' e-mails again, AND be able to SEND as well.
All my 'old' e-mails, were NOT found in the 'old e-mail' folder though. THEY are still in my inbox.
So this fix worked for me.
After I deleted my account from 'OTHER' and put it in Yahoo, I like other people also ended up with more folders.
I hope this works for you on YOUR Apple devices.

I had my logic board replaced recently and i'm not sure if it has anything to do with it but i can no longer log into ichat...
I am getting messages saying that my info is wrong and i am going into the preferences and changing it, but to no avail...
please help?! I use it to talk to my work colleagues when i'm overseas so it's pretty important!

Your specs say OS X 10.6.8 which means you should have iChat 5.0.3
Can you confirm you have this version ?
Go to the Application Folder and highlight iChat then use the File Menu of the Finder > Get Info (Or the Keystrokes)
What sort of name are you trying to Login ?
AN @mac.com Name should be valid (With AIM) but Apple will allow you to create a password longer than the 16 characters that the AIM server can deal with.
IF you have changed or linked an Apple ID to an iCloud ID and are trying the new iCloud version (@me.com) this will not work in iChat 5 or Earlier.
iChat 6 and Messages in Mountain Lion also log in to me.com that allows the AIM server to then "See" the password. iChat 5 does not have this dual Login and the names will not work. (you would normally get a pop up alert messages about either the name or Password being "wrong")
There are some reports that @mac.com names that have been used by people on trips abroad have been Suspended by AIM (Unusual Activity)
Go here and Sign in https://settings.aim.com/ and it will tell you (iCloud Names can't login here either)

I want to create an Itunes store account but I can't because it asks me the number of my credit card and I don't have one. I saw already people who created accounts without a credit card, how can I create an account without a credit card ?

Thanks SniperKat but I don't know why for some reason the "NONE" disappeared...
I started to create an account and when I saw the credit card thing I just clicked back and back and so I closed the browser... every free app or something free I get it appears a window : " You have to review some of your information about your account" .... but I don't have an account yet because I didn't create it.... the only solution is to create a new e-mail account and go to iTunes store and create a new account with the new e-mail and be very carefull with the "Free app" this time...

I am on the ichat screen and it is telling me the user id or password is incorrect and I see from previous discussions that the password needs to be short. But mine is 6 characters no numbers. Is this the problem? Under .me is just won't connect me. Under .mac it is stating the AOL username...issue. Not sure how to get on. I log on on my laptop with no issue? Any help would be great. TS1538 everytime i turn on my phone to do anything, call, text, play a game, etc. a request pops up for me to sign into itunes store, wants me to enter my ID password.

I recently made an in-app purchase that i did receive a receipt for, but would not apply to the game (in other words, so far i have been unable to use this 99 cent in app that i purchased.) as it was only 99 cents, i was not too bothered about it, and figured it was a game glitch and a lesson to me to NOT buy in-app purchases. the only thing now is that ever since i did this my phone pops up a message every time i go to use it asking me to enter my apple ID password. this is extremely annoying.

After a visit to the apple store, they were able to get through my pass code but unfortunately I found out that is was a problem with the logic board. Since Apple only wants to sell and not fix, I was able to locate an iphone repair near me that deals with logic boards and they are currently working on it right now. i should be getting it back soon. Im not sure if the problem you are experiencing is the same as i went through but it does sound like it may be also a hardware issue and would suggest searching online for an iphone repair place that can diagnose what exactly is wrong. Hope this helps.

New users can't log into /mydevices or /profilemanager

I've got Profile Manager up and running and have deployed about 25 iPads using the current setup.
My configuration has not changed but all of sudden, new users created today can not log into /mydevices or /profilemanager. Says the username or password is incorrect, but they're entered properly. Again, the configuration of the server has NOT changed since users entered (and working) last week.
Anyone have this issue? If anyone can shed some light, I'd really appreciate it.
Apple: Lion Server is buggy as ****. Profile Manager is buggy as ****. I've spent hours on the phone with Apple support with one issue after another. I'm getting sick of the instability and crankiness of Lion Server. These forums are chalked full of people having such a massive range of issues that I can only draw one conculsion: Lion Server is half baked.

I got my problem solved - and here is a few things to note and some steps to resolve the issue.
1) you do not need to create augmented users - unless you need extra settings for local logins (you most likely won't have users logging into your mav) - if you are using AD that is - if not just create local users
2) server is buggy - perhaps - but after dealing with this issue for a few days - as much as i want to agree with it i want to say that now it is running very smoothly - and it boils down to order of steps in the install
4) do not change hostnames once it's set up - that will scre it up even worse
here is what i woudl suggest to blow it away and reset it up
1) system pref - users and groups - login options - network account server - edit - unjoin the domain
2) blow away your open directory and profile manager in command line
sudo /usr/share/devicemgr/backend/wipeDB.sh
sudo slapconfig -destroyldapserver
3) reset apache web config
sudo /serveradmin command web:command=restoreFactorySettings
4)make sure your hostname is correct
5) join domain (if needed)
     on command line veryfiy ad is working by typing
     user "username" where username is username of AD user
6) if AD set up - check dns search order - make sure no local host (127.0.0.1) is in the list
     system preferences - network - ethernet - advanced -dns - remove 127.0.0.1 if there (only if using AD)
6) server admin - open directory - settings - change - set up as standalone
configure yoru ldap server - this will reissue signing authority certificate that you will need if you want to sign your configurations profiles for clients (iOS and Mac)
7) then configure profile manager
Reboot after step 2 - step 3, step 6
if you have a firewall infront of the server there will be aditinal ports required for SCEP

If you have a reverse proxy you will need to set up a trust to the cetificate on the proxy to the authority configured in the open ldap - different topic - but just tought it was worth mentioning

Only you have the password. No one can email it to you.

Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears.      Enter resetpassword at the prompt and press RETURN. Follow

No matter what I do. I cannot log into iChat. Everytime it asks me for my password. I type it in correctly. & It says inncorret. Also when i try to make a new account. It says the same thing. Someone please help me. Thank you

If you are using an @Mac.com name or an @Me.com name the password needs to be 16 characters or less to work with the AIM servers.
iCloud names (@me.com) cannot be used in iChat 5 or earlier.
(AIM cannot access the password as iChat 6 and Messages login to me.com as well that lets AIM see the password)

IChat asking for my Google Talk password but I don't have one

I can't log on to iChat. When I launch it I get a window that says iChat can't log into my email addres because my login ID or password is incorrect. I don't have a talk.google.com password because I've never signed up for this service. When I hit the cancel button I remain logged offline. When I try to make myself available again it repeatedly asks me for my talk.google.com password.
Any ideas?

Your backup must be encrypted which is something that you would have had to have set up when syncing with iTunes at some point.
There is an option in the Summary Tab - Encrypt iPad Backup. That is what you must have done - or someone else did when backing up the iPad. I would assume that you will have to restore as new if you can't remember the password.

Can't log into my new Ichat account

I can't Log into my ichat account. I have tried changing the account name and passwords in preferences........all it says is that my account name or server isn't valid. Previously it seemed to have retained a very long password that I didn't write.

I can't log into my iTunes account on my iPhone 5s. I logged out a few days ago to trouble shoot because I was trying to redeem some iTunes cards but when i pressed redeem nothing happened. I then tried to log back in immediately afterwards. I was unable to do so. After clicking "sign in" at the bottom of the apps main page, it brought up another menu where I clicked "Choose existing Apple ID". After pressing this the menu disappeared and nothing happened. I tried this multiple times and received the same result each time. I tried the other available option of creating a new AP ID to log in with and that one worked perfectly fine. I am clueless as to why the log in for me is either not able to load or just completely blocking me from getting back into my iTunes account on my phone. Not only can I not listen to the music I currently have, but I cannot log in to purchase the new music that I wanted to with my unused iTunes gift cards

I have an Apple ID that is a email from an Dial up service I once used.
(actually I can still download mail from this service but cannot send unless I login using Dial up)
When iCloud came out I linked this to iCloud and was given an @me.com ID as well.
Later Apple changed these to @icloud.com and I got one of those as well.
For iTunes, Logging here to post or accessing iCloud in a Browser I can use anyone of on the three "names" but with one common password.
In Messages or iChat though this Apple ID does not work.
It has to be one of the ones Issued by Apple.
Changes in iChat 6 and the two Messages version in Mountain Lion and Mavericks that use a Login to Apple as well as AIM to Verify things before AIM is allowed to "read" the Password means the later IDs issued under iCloud will not work in iChat 5 or earlier.
@mac.com names issued under the .Mac service or as "iChat Names" during the MobileMe period will still work in any version.
If you have the @me.com or @icloud.com IDs use those (even if it says @me.com on the setting in iChat)
Add the ID in full to the AIM setting option.
If you don't then Register a name at AIM.

Do you have Google 2 stage authentication turned on?
If so, you wont't be able to use your normal google password, but will have to instead generate an "application specific" password for the iPad YouTube app in the google security settings section.

The Apple IDs from @mac.com and @me.com (Older MobileMe and more recent iCloud Names) are also Valid AIM Screen names.
Any other sort of Apple ID is not a Valid AIM Name.
A Google ID that is associated with Google Mail Account (And has "Talk" enable on your Google Settings) can be used in iChat as Jabber Name/ID. (Google Run Jabber server).
Jabber and AIM are different IM Services and it is not easy or straight forward to add Buddies from one Service to the Buddy List of another. (As A Starting point consider it "impossible")
iChat 4 and 5 have links to the registration page of @Mac.com here with a "Get an iChat Account" button in the add (Account) screen (You select @mac.com or MobileMe and then press the Button - Choosing AIM and then pressing the button used to lead to the AIM registration page but AIM moved their page).
Apple IDs can be any valid email (or an @mac.com or iCloud registration)
Therefore you could make a Google ID into an Apple ID.
However this will not be a valid AIM Screen Name the way @mac.com or MobileMe/iCloud ones are.
