I can't log into my screen names on Ichat.

hey guys, I'm new to this so I'm not really sure how it works but I have a macbook it hasn't given me any problems but right now it won't let me log on to a particular screen name on my ichat. It lets me log on to other screen names but I have no idea why it doesn't let me log in. I have ichat version 4.0.5 (608) i think. What can I do?

It is currently difficult to add @mac.com screen names to iChat the way iChat was set up to have them added as Apple have changed to MobileMe.
This will mean that if you have a Paid for @mac.com name you should have been invited to get a MoblieMe account.
This gives you a download that when you click on .mac in System Preferences > is supposed to work across the Apple apps that are involved.
Some people are finding it is not as straight-forward as this in iChat.
The same goes for the new @me.com names if you get a brand new MobileMe account.
AS this change to MobileMe has come between OS updates iChat has not bee Updated.
The Current fix is add the Screen name as if it were and AIM one and type the User ID in full including the suffix.

This one can read @mac.com at the end as the alternative stated above.

hey I am an out of date mac user. I own a Powerbook g4 15 inch dvi. I have never had to reload my os. I am now at the point that i have had my computer for 8years and my computer is stuck. I some how cannot log into my administrator screen name. when i do log in it starts to go to the desktop and then the pinwheel comes up and it boots me back to the login screen. I have a guest screen name as well. I can log into the guest perfectly fine but have to priveledges to erase and reload the os. Any suggestions on how to get past this?

If you really just want to erase the entire OS and start over, simply boot from your Mac OS X Install DVD. Once you boot from the DVD, you will automatically have permission to perform a new erase/install.
If you want to recover your old admin account without erasing, this gets a little more complicated. Are Leopard's Guest accounts allowed access to System Preferences? If so, you could try going there and authenticating as your old admin by clicking on the lock icon in Accounts (since your old account blows up at log-in time and not authentication time, presumably you can still use that password in another account to create a new Admin user).
Otherwise, boot from the install DVD and use Utilities -> Reset Password. Select System Administrator (root) and set a password for it. Reboot from your HD, hit Other... when at the login screen. Enter "root" as the username and the password you set as the password. That gets you into the root account, from where you can create a new administrator account.

I can't log into my main account with my password, always gets me back to the log-in screen after upgrading to 10.7.5

After my routine software update to 10.7.5, I can't log into my main log-in id. Whenever I put my password in, it takes me back to the log-in screen. I'm sure of the password not being wrong because i can access my other admin accounts from which i changed the password. All my files and data is in that id. Please help. Thank you.

The Apple IDs from @mac.com and @me.com (Older MobileMe and more recent iCloud Names) are also Valid AIM Screen names.
Any other sort of Apple ID is not a Valid AIM Name.
A Google ID that is associated with Google Mail Account (And has "Talk" enable on your Google Settings) can be used in iChat as Jabber Name/ID. (Google Run Jabber server).
Jabber and AIM are different IM Services and it is not easy or straight forward to add Buddies from one Service to the Buddy List of another. (As A Starting point consider it "impossible")
iChat 4 and 5 have links to the registration page of @Mac.com here with a "Get an iChat Account" button in the add (Account) screen (You select @mac.com or MobileMe and then press the Button - Choosing AIM and then pressing the button used to lead to the AIM registration page but AIM moved their page).
Apple IDs can be any valid email (or an @mac.com or iCloud registration)
Therefore you could make a Google ID into an Apple ID.
However this will not be a valid AIM Screen Name the way @mac.com or MobileMe/iCloud ones are.

Can't log into account

Hello all! I have a problem!! When I log into my account it takes me to the my desktop but will not load my desktop icons. It then returns me to the log in screen. I can however log into other accounts. I set up a new admin but cannot access my old files because I do not have permission. I've tried repairing permission (which fails). I've tried repairing permission through the install disc and it stalls...all day. The Mac HD appears to be ok when I verify Disk. I've also tried to just do a reinstall but it fails to. Any help would be greatly appreaciated! I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.7 on a MacBook.
also, I was able to log into it once briefly and It displayed Finder Quit Unexpectedly.

This is just a guess, but it may work. First, back up all data if you haven't already done so. Log into a working admin account and launch the Terminal application. I'll assume that the name of the problem account is "fubar." Substitute the actual name for that one. In the Terminal window, very carefully enter the following command:
sudo rm ~fubar/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
Try again to log in as fubar.

Can't log in with AIM name.

My friend is having issues logging into iChat with her AIM name. She can log in on regular AIM just fine, but can't log into iChat.

This sounds unlike anything I have come across before.
I would try the following.
I am presuming this in a Lion/iChat 6 set up.
1a) Whilst the accoount is not On line then go to the iChat Preferences > Accounts > Server Settings
Change the server name to slogin.oscar.aol.com
If the Port does not change itself then change the port to 5190
1b) Try this with port 443 as well
1c) Try it without the leading s (login.oscar.aol.com)
2) Open Activity Monitor in Applications/Utilities and use that to Force Quit IMAgent (Hit the red Quit Button then confirm Force Quit)
IMAgent should restart but in doing so it should refresh all and every login for iChat and Face Time.
3a) If the above have not worked then remove (Delete = use the minus button) the account from iChat then re-add it.
3b) If that does not remove the account again AND delete com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist before re-adding the aaccount.
To do this you will need to be in the Finder > Go Menu and Hold the ALT key and select the Library that appears.
You can then select the Preferences so you can find the stated .plist
Restart iChat before re-adding the account.

I know the name and password is correct because I can log in via the Web.

Apple discontinued it on June 30, 2012. Many of its services are now provided by iCloud; anything which connects specifically to MobileMe won't work.

Stick the 10.6 disk into the machine and reboot holding the option/alt key down on a wired/built in keyboard.
On the second screen, under the Utilities menu is a Password Reset, use it.

I can't log into anything using firefox, including Mozilla every since the recent update!!!

I have created three new users without Apple IDs and they can't log into either of my Macbook Pro or Mac Mini running Mountain Lion. These accounts are for my kids and originally were setup with parental controls and time constraints. Thinking this was the problem I removed the time constraints, removed the parental controls, deleted and re-added them, and made them standard users. I have reinstalled, used disk utility to repair permissions, and made them admins. Any help is appreciated.

Users don't need Apple ID's. That's not the issue. Have you tried repairing permissions their accounts?

You’ll need to reboot to perform this, and then use the same resetpassword utility that is used to change passwords in Lion, but instead choosing a hidden option.
When you use the Disk Utility app and Repair Permissions — it doesn’t actually repair the permission settings on folders and files in your Home folder where your documents and personal applications reside.
In Lion, there is an additional Repair Permissions application utility hidden away. This tool is located inside boot Repair Utilities. Here’s how to access it.

Can't log into Facebook in Settings

I can't log into Facebook when I try to do it in the Settings (for FB integration). It worked fine on my iPhone, but my iPad 2 won't do it.
I enter my username and password and tap Sign In, and up top it says "Verifying" with the little "I'm thinking" wheel to the left of that, but that's all it does. It's stuck. No error messages, nothing.
iPad 2 running iOS 6 over wifi.

OK, I changed from my Facebookuser name to my gmail account name and then it worked.
