no what I meant was I have read through what information it gave me when I asked the question and other than checking my wifi or checking my iMessage is on or checking my number and email address was correct I didn't think that the information applied to my specific problem so that is why I asked the question? I asummed it would be something simple and silly that I am doing wrong. I have not spoken to any technicians, I am new to this site and you can probably tell I'm not that knowledgable with technology so I apologise if I have put you out, I don't feel your rudeness or your sarcasim towards me was necessary. iOS 7.1.2, huh? It MAY be having some trouble with the iOS 8.x devices and latest iCloud features. Although it meets the minimum system requirements, it does not meet the recommended ones - System requirements for iCloud - Apple Support
You should try Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support - this is generally the first step in troubleshooting, all devices - for all time

hi i have recently backed up my iphone 4 to do a wipe of my phone. i got all my info back on it but was wondering how can i view my messages on my computer so that i can delete old messages from months ago without actually having to delete the recent ones?

I can't get Wifi on my iphone 3g - but I can't back the phone up

Ok, this sounds like a problem that only a complete numpty would have (hands up, that's me).
Here is my issue: I have an old iphone 3G that a friend gave to me - (primarily to use for Wifi as I don't have a computer and I needed to access the internet). For a while (a week) it worked FINE and then all of a sudden my phone will NOT connect to any wifi network. It just brings up a message that says 'cannot connect to this network'.
I have turned the airplane mode on and off
I have restored network settings (several times)
I have turned the divice on and off
and I have checked for new software updates on my friends computer - but apparently we're all good there *(even though the muppet in the apple store was like ' oh, you've got old software we're up to 5 now just update it - given that she couldn't find itunes on an ipad, I'm inclined to think she knows not much more than me).
I know the natural thing would be to reset the phone but I DONT want to lose all my contacts / photos / messages etc.
I don't want to Sync the phone to my friends computer cos it would mess up all her contacts etc. as she syncs her phone to her computer.
I'm a bit stuck.

An iPhone 3G can only be updated to iOS 4.2.1...that's the end of the line for that model iPhone. If that's the iOS already on your phone, there are no further updates available.

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.

Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Call forwarding is a carrier feature, not a phone feature. So, contact your carrier & insure that call forwarding is properly provisioned on your account.

For photos taken with the iPhone or saved from emails/websites then you should be able to use the Windows camera wizard or just copy them via windows explorer : photos to PC.
For photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPhone, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.
