I can't name/rename folder tracks

This is just a quickie — I can't seem to name/rename folder tracks as I can instrument, bus, aux etc. tracks by clicking on its name in the respective Object boxes. This doesn't seem to be set-up specific as the same problem occurs on both my PowerBook and my MacBook. Is this a known bug? Is there a work around?
Note that I have aaaaaaaaaall the updates.
Thanks fellahs

Hello d. reamonn
You can name/rename folders exactly like you can tracks.
There are two possibilities: Hold down OPTION key and click on the word Folder. A box will appear and you type in the name you want.
Or for a second naming of the folder do the same operation with COMMAND and click

  • Can't name/rename folders

Very strange - I started a new folder, but when I tried to change the name from Untitled, I couldn't. It highlights and the cursor changes to text entry, but it will neither delete the name or enter text. So I went to so existing folders to see if I can change names - no dice. I also tried to do it via the get info box, but same thing. What's up? Folders aren't locked, permissions say read & write, haven't done any system updates the past couple of days. What's the problem and how do I fix it? Thanks!

    how do I fix it?
The cause is a bug. The solution is to upgrade to 10.5.
But meanwhile, you will have to restart Finder.
The simplest way to quit Finder is to press the option key while right-clicking on the Finder icon in the Dock, and choose the Relaunch menu item.
Read here for more about restarting Finder.

  • Can you name video/audio tracks in FCP?

instead of V1, V2, V3... can you title or name these tracks?

I used to think it would be cool, too, way back when Media 100 was Avid's main competition. But M100 talked us out of it.
It's only a good option if the names carry through to EDL and other output options from FCP (or Avid, whatever an Avid is).
I've worked on huge audio projects, 24-30 tracks. I've never been particularly lost and I've never worked on a system where naming the tracks was possible. So it has never really struck me as useful or desirable.
Personally, I'd like to see tons of things FIXED before Apple starts adding more features and options but be sure to drop this request into the FCP FEEDBACK folder.

  • Unable to name created folder on iPhone 6

This is weird, I created a folder and I'm unable to name it.

Ive taken both apps out, dragged them to the home screen, attempted to re-create the folder on the home screen, same thing. I haven't tried through iTunes yet, but it's just odd why you can't name a folder with these apps, I even added urban spoon, same thing.

  • Rename CD Tracks?

Can I manually rename the tracks of a CD that lists only Track numbers? The CD I am importing to iTunes is converted from home recorded audio cassettes.

    Hi appleseeker2,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  You can rename tracks and add other information to songs you've imported into iTunes by following this article:

  • Can't Rename video tracks in Bootcamp

    Hi,
I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 on my Macbook Pro on the Windows 7 bootcamped partition. I try to rename my video tracks by right clicking (or control clicking for that matter) but all that happens is they become highlighted or unhighlighted (or nothing if the track is locked). My right click works for other applications as well as other parts of Premiere (renaming the sequence, etc) but not the video tracks. How can I fix this?

Make sure that you are Rt-clicking ON the Track Name in the Track Header. Otherwise, you will just Target the Track. Depending on your screen rez, you might have to be very exact with cursor placement. It can be rather like finding the vertical zoom handles, between Tracks - a pixel hunt!
[Edit] Just tried this in PrPro 2.0 (obviously on a PC), and the cursor position was not anywhere near as critical, as I suspected. Anywhere in the Header got me the Rename option. Guess that I always did it right on the Track Name, and made an incorrect assumption. Sorry for that.
I've not heard of Bootcamp loosing the Renaming capabilities, but have to admit to being a PC-only guy.
    Good luck,

  • Can't name new folders or rename existing folders in Finder

I can't name new folders or rename existing folders in Finder. I've never had this happen before. I tried both using the new folder icon and choosing "new folder" from the actions icon. The only unusual thing I'm doing now is working with Spaces enabled, but I can't imagine that this has anything to do with the problem. Selecting and hitting "return" doesn't allow me to either erase existing text or overwrite with new text. Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    Sue A.

    Same here --
I just created a new folder and couldn't change its name. Finder would give me "more info" (permissions certainly not an issue) and allow me to delete (and then recreate) the folder, but not change its name.
Problem came from out of the blue, on a one-week-old system with all OS updates. Also found this old thread, which also suggests a Finder restart: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8989639
So that'll probably do it, but what gives?
Not so impressed with 10.5.7 so far... first a complete system crash while doing no more than downloading updates (a few hours after booting up for the first time), then networking stopped working (see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2003868), now this...

  • How to name or rename iTunes tracks.

Hi. I have put a cd into iTunes. The names of the  tracks are  are shown as Track1, Track 2, etc. This seems to be normal,  as the cd was given to me by my son who burned it with  songs he liked. I now want to put names on each track. I can't find instructions on how to put in names. I would appreciate it if someone woulde tell me how to do this, or tell me where to find the information
    thanks
    Mike

right click the file, select "get info" click the info tab, and you can edit all the information about the song.
see attached pic. also sometimes if you click just once on the file it lets me rename it (if i click towards the beginning of the file name)

  • Can I lock a folder so that I cannot rename it

Hi everyboy, can I lock af folder so that I cnnot rename it, but still can edit and create files within it?
The problem being that I keep changing the name of a dropbox folder, which then needs to sync again.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rasmus Henriksen

Copy and paste this command in the Terminal and leave a space after it.
Then, drag your folder onto the Terminal window.  It will expand the path out for that folder. Hit return.
    chmod +a "group:everyone deny delete"
This will add the Access Control Entry that prevents anyone from deleting the folder, which also prevents renaming. It will still go to the rename mode, but will require you to authenticate to complete the rename.

  • Can't automatically retrieve CD track names after upgrade to 9.0.2

I can't automatically retrieve CD track names from Internet after upgrade itunes to 9.0.2. Is it a bug for this update or I did something worng. I am using macbook pro with 10.5.8. Thanks.

I have exactly the same problem. The MP4 files are valid and I'm using the same application to create them as I always did. I drag the MP4 file to itunes and nothing happens. If I use "Add File" or "Add Folder" nothing happens. If you find a fix, let me know because this is a major impact to me as well!

Go to \Music\ abnd find the iTunes folder.
    Right click - Properties.
Make sure it is not Read Only.
Also, make sure you have full *Read/Writes permissions* to the iTunes folder and all contents.
Select the \Music\iTunes\ folder and see this -> http://paulstamatiou.com/how-to-quickie-vista-permissions

I wonder if we haven't misunderstood what you were asking for. Could it be that you have not a huge file, but just a huge list of names in many small files. If that's the case, you should rather use the following script instead of the previous one.
Since this script does not rename the files, make a backup of your files before running it.
set theFolder to choose folder -- the folder containing your text files
    tell application "Finder"
set theNames to name of files of theFolder whose name extension is "txt"
    end tell
    set theTextFiles to {}
set theFolderPath to POSIX path of theFolder
    repeat with thisName in theNames
copy theFolderPath & thisName to the end of theTextFiles
    end repeat
    repeat with thisFile in theTextFiles
set F1 to open for access thisFile
        set theText to read F1
        close access F1
set theParagraphs to paragraphs of theText
set bigList to (a reference to theParagraphs)
        set theNewParagraphs to {}
set bigNewList to (a reference to theNewParagraphs)
        repeat with X in bigList
            set P to offset of " - " in X
            if P = 0 then
                set Y to X
            else
                set Y to text (P + 3) through -1 of X & " - " & text 1 through (P - 1) of X
            end if
copy Y & return to the end of bigNewList
        end repeat
set theNewText to text 1 through -2 of (bigNewList as text)
set F2 to open for access thisFile with write permission
        set eof F2 to 0
        write theNewText to F2
        close access F2
    end repeat
display dialog "Done!" buttons {"OK"} default button 1 with icon 1

  • Can you batch rename tracks in iTunes for Mac?

I want to do a sequential track naming, but I can't figure how to do this and the Doug's applescript isn't working - it renames my FILES instead of the TRACKS!
These tracks are from an audiobook on CD, and it's tiresome to have to search for the "part" when all the tracks are numbered 1-99 and the only thing keeping them from being in the wrong order is the fact that I told iTunes the disc order in the 'Get Info' menu. It wouldn't be so hard on the MacBook, but I usually listen to these on my iPhone, and scrolling through literally hundreds of tracks takes forever, and sometimes I STILL can't find which track was playing last!
I've done a batch rename using an Automator workflow setup I found on the web, but I can't find anything that lets me actually rename the tracks. I've even deleted the tracks from iTunes, renamed the files, deleted the faulty script that screwed things up, and it STILL comes up with the weird numbers and track numbers and renames the files in Finder!!!
I'm getting really frustrated with this and don't want to have to rename tracks by hand because that takes HOURS.

    Hi,
Here is an AppleScript example of how to rename tracks in iTunes :
display dialog "What will be the base name?" default answer "Track "
set baseName to text returned of the result
set n to 1 -- the starting number
    tell application "iTunes"
repeat with thisTrack in (get selection) -- rename selected tracks
set name of thisTrack to baseName & n
                set n to n + 1
          end repeat
    end tell
Without more information, I can not make script specific to your needs.

    I know i know
but im only just go gettin the swing of GB. Is it possible to name each track.
    Code

But after you name it you can not use any of the pre-set effects in the Track Info Pane or it will re-name it to that effect.
An annoying idiosyncrasy, IMO. If someone goes to the effort to rename a track, GB should have the good manners to leave it alone... at least on real audio tracks where a renamed track is likely to be more meaningful than the name of an effect.
Of course, if someone wanted to change an effect, they shouldn't not do that because of the name thing - they can always change the effect and rename the track back to whatever they want. But still!
