Hi again, I have already tried this and it did not work for me......
OS X Lion: If you don’t have the correct permissions to open a file or folder
If you don’t have permission to open open a file or folder, you may be able to change the permission settings (”privileges”).
Select the item and choose File > Get Info.
Click the triangle next to Sharing & Permissions to expand the section.
Open the pop-up menu next to your user name to see the permissions settings. If you are not logged in as an administrator, you may need to click the lock icon and type an administrator name and password. If you’re the only user of your computer, you are the administrator. If the setting for your account is No Access, you can’t open the item.
If you can’t change the permissions, contact an administrator of your computer or the owner of the file or folder.
If necessary, you can use Disk Utility to repair permissions on your disk.
I have not changed anything on my computer which is a macbook pro OS X 10.7.4 so this is confusing to me.. If you can help with an easy fix, please let me know. Thanks!

I would agree with the other poster....you're probably talking about WMV files. Those are the typical standard from PC. Just grab the free Flip4Mac player. If you need to convert them to mov, for some reason, you'd have to pay for the upgraded version.

You CAN'T download published files and then edit them in iWeb because iWeb can't open them - it has no import facility so is unable to open any html or css files - a previously published site.
You can download these files yes, but you'll need to use them as a guide or to cut and paste text from there whilst you re-build your site in iWeb.
The only other way is to download the files and then open them with an html editor such as TextWrangler or use one of the other web design programmes out there that is capable of importing html and css such as Dreamweaver of Flux 4.
These are your only alternatives as iWeb can't import and if you want to continue to use iWeb, then you'll have to re-build your site from scratch. If you do just remember to back up your domain.sites file this time around - it is found under your User/Library/Applicaion Support/iWeb/domain.sites.

I am working on the mac side and I need to be able to copy files from the mac side that I create over to the win side. I can open and view win files when I am booted to Snow Leopard, but I cant copy files to the win side. I think Macdrive does the opposite.
Any ideas?

to write to Windows NTFS you need 3rd party.
You have read only access to HFS from Windows.
MacDrive8 works in Windows to add write to HFS as does Paragon. Paragon has what I have come to see as the best NTFS driver for OS X, and they have a separate HFS8 for Windows similar to MacDrive8.
Maybe you want to run Windows as a client OS using Parallels instead?

Down loaded adobe x and now can not open recently viewed files

I downloaded the new version of adobe but I now can not open any files. I get a white screen and windows task manager says adobe in not responding.

Adobe has magically started to run again. I had the program running with just a white screen and after about a 10 minute delay it seems to be ok.
I hope that is the end of the problem. I have no idea what the problem was, maybe it was doing an internal update , I am not a computer whiz.

Can't open and view downloaded HD free episodes

I have spent several hours downloading the free episodes iTunes is offering in HD and SD. The SD episodes have downloaded fine, but the HD episodes have not downloaded correctly. When i try to open the episodes an error message says "that the file can not be found" and then it asks me to browse for the missing file. I can not find the downloaded file and there for can't play it. Is there anyway to fix the file without spending the time to redownload them?

I have been using Final Cut pro v6 without any problems but recently had to reinstall. Since then I can't open and view all my Quicktime clips. They appear white in timeline which means you can hear audio but not view picture. Any tips?

I have been using Final Cut Pro without any problems - v6 - for ages. I recently had a hardware issue and had to reinstall the software. Since then I can't open most of my QT clips in my fcp project. They appear as white clips - audio only no pictures. There are a few QT clips you can view as regular thumbnail images and they play ok. What's the issue? I have fcp v6.0.6 and QT v7. Yes I did software updates which updated fcp to 6.0.6 and QT to version 7.7. That's as far as updates have taken me although i have requested daily updates. I forgot to say the clips don't play in QT view either. Again sound but no pictures when they are played.

Well I’m still wondering if it is compatibility issues because I’m also having problem with Photoshop CS5. These 3 are all bought at the same time (PC, Illustrator and Photoshop installers). The problem I’m having in Photoshop is not that too important, every time I Ctrl+O to view files, all PSD are shown in white paper like icons, no preview, and saving as well.
Or I just purchased a corrupted or pirated installers… Adobe updates are done every time I’m prompted.

Can't open old AppleWorks files on new MacBook Pro w/Snow Leopard

Just bought a refurbished MacBook Pro, did the migration from my old (2 yrs) MacBook via FireWire. Many of the old application icons are not appearing in my Dock, just Question marks ???. When I click on a ?, it indicates the name of that app which was there on the old MacBook, but there's no icon & I can't open the app from there. I can't find my Adobe Reader app, & several others, on the hard drive. Maybe I can find a work around for those....
BUT - zillions of files in the old AppleWorks/ClarisWorks files open in sometimes unreadable text, with all formatting gone. I NEED these files!! Please help!!

Ahh...then it may actually be damaged. All of my old AppleWorks docs (word-processing docs) are opening just fine with Pages. On the other hand, if the AW doc is a drawing or database doc then Pages might not be able to open it. If the AW doc is a spreadsheet, it might open with Numbers.

No, If you still have your AppleWorks installation disk, I would suggest installing it and trying to open the 'damaged' docs that way. Later, if an item won't open in Pages but will open in AW, then resave it in AW as a generic format that Pages will open. In this way you can move these docs from the now unsupported AW and into Pages format. If we wait too long, we may not be able to install AW at some point in the future and then your old docs will be orphaned.

Hi - I don't currently have iWork but was considering purchasing it. I frequently get sent excel files from work (which I view on my iPad 3) that have got filters in the column headings applied and I need to be able to change the dropdown values in the headings to see different cuts of the data in the spreadsheet. Does anyone know if the current version of Numbers allows users to do this?

Numbers has a row filtering feature, but it doesn't involve the Header or any dropdown menus. In Numbers row filtering is controlled from the Reorganize Panel which is activated from the Toolbar. Given this, I don't think an imported Excel document will have the filtering feature active. Hopefully someone who uses both Execl and Numbers will weigh in.
