I can't open any pages document

My associate hasn't executed an apple update in some time.  I typically do.  For over a month, he can't open any Pages doucment I send him.
Last night, I did an apple Update for pages that Apple had been requesting I do for about a month.  Now, I can't open any of my own pages documents in 4.3 or 5.0.1.  Documents I created yesterady I can't open.  I'm infuriated with Apple as every recommended update seems to trigger something else to not work as intended.  I'm constactly playing IT guy trying to simply keep thinks working as they're supposed to.  Can anyone help?  Thanks

Since you have already updated to Pages 5.2 on your Mac, you have two versions of Pages on your Mac & are trying to open Pages 5 documents with Pages 4. Are you launching Pages from an icon in your Dock? Installing the update does not change the Dock icons & it does not remove the older versions. Go to your Applications folder & launch the new Pages from there then right-click on the Dock icon & select Options > Keep in Dock.
Installing new versions of iWork has never replaced existing versions. This is nothing new. The only thing new is that the '09 apps are moved to an iWork '09 folder if they were purchased from the Mac App Store. If they were installed from disk they should already be in a separate folder in Applications.

You do need to give more information. What version of Pages, what version of OS X, have you ever been able to open Pages documents, have you made any changes to your Mac? Please be specific with versions, don't just say "I have the latest." Our crystal balls don't work over the internet.

I can't open any pdf documents with Adobe Reader XI...get an error that "Adobe has stopped working" then it closes.  Is this an Adobe issue, Microsoft issue, or security issue?

Thank you!  That seemed to do the trick.  Don't think I'd ever have figured that one out!!

  • I can't open a pages document.

I can't open a pages document. It says I need a new version of pages. I searched for upgrades but can't find any. Am I being forced to re-buy the program in order to access my documents? I looked into upgrading operating system, but Mavericks says I can't - my machine is too old? Seriously? It is starting to look like upgrades are breaking what otherwise worked fine, then charging to upgrade to make it work?

    Pages 5 requires Mavericks.
If you can't upgrade to Mavericks you will need to Export your Pages 5 file to Pages '09 or Word .doc/x format then open it with whatever Pages version you have (you didn't say).
You can open Pages 5 files inside Safari using iWork for iCloud beta and Send a Copy in Word format to yourself.

  • Cannot open any Pages documents made prior to upgrading to Yosemie. Pages does not appear in the iCloud list in system preferences.

Upgraded to Yosemite. Upgraded Pages to latest version. Uninstalled older versions of pages (made with iWork '09). Now I cannot open any Pages documents made prior to upgrading. I keep getting the same redundant message: "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document. You can download the latest version of Pages from the Mac App Store." Not sure if this is relevant, but Pages does not show up in the iCloud list in systems preferences.

Ok, I found pages on the iCloud drive. But the behavior of Pages is still the same, problem unchanged.

  • Can you open with Pages documents that were created in a 2004 version of Microsoft word for Mac?

Can you open in Pages documents that were created in a 2004 version of Microsoft Word for Mac?

Pages '09 will open .doc files from Word 2004. The Mac OS is not what is in question. Pages '09 opens Word 2004 documents and if the same version of Pages will run in Lion and in Mountain Lion ..... Thats all that matters.
I trust you were using MS Office 2004 and would now like to buy Pages?

  • Since buying Pages 5.2  can't open any Pages 09 files

Since purchasing and updating to Pages 5.2 I can't open any Pages 09 files.  Tried various things, nothing working.

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

  • MacBook Air can not open any pages in internet.

Hello, my new MacBook Air (just bought it) can not open any pages in internet. In >System preferences > Network it says that Wi-Fi has the self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the Internet But Skype is working very OK on it at the same time... HELP... Also my old MacBook is working OK.

Be patient and wait for someone to reply. This is a user to user forum, we are all volunteers. Another thing you can do is contact AppleCare or bring your machine into an Apple Store or AASP. Perhaps they will have some suggestions.

  • Updated safari to 6.0.2 app starts but can't open any pages...help!

updated safari to 6.0.2... app starts but can't open any pages...help!

I tried turning off extensions as you suggested, Bee, but the problem persists. As you can see Chrome is working. Turning on auto proxy discovery in preferences made no difference.
The message I get when trying to open a web page is:
Safari can't open the page "http:www.apple.com/support/". The error is: "The operation couldn't be completed. Operation not permitted" (NSPOSIXErrorDomain:1)
Any chance you can decipher this and tell me what it means other than the web page can't open which I kind of figured out.

  • Help!..Pages now is a disaster, crashes and I can't open any important documents!

Hello, I am writing from Italy...HELP!!!!
I have this problem: I can't open three important documents because Pages crashes. I can't use Icloud (if these documents are not opened in Pages, Icloud does not download documents!!!).
I worked on these documents for months and now it is a disaster.
Please apple, new update is necessary.
How I can solve this problem?
I can't return to the previous version of Pages because it is impossible but this is the one solution that I have read in Internet.

I haven't had this exact issue, so I can't tell you exactly how I fixed it, but I can give a couple of guesses that might help.
Definitely, if you haven't, restart the ipad by pressing and holding the power button on the top of the ipad until it turns off by itself, then wait a minute, then restart it. This has solved a ton of different random iPad issues for me. I'm not sure why, but when I first learned this trick, it was hold down the button on the front at the same time as the power button. For some reason, with iOS 6, this seems to do some kind of quick restart that doesn't turn off the device in the same way.
The only other thing, I can think of is to use a second iDevice to try to download the files. If you also have a second apple iPod touch, iphone or ipad, try to download the most recent version that has synced to that device. Then I'd export it via email so that I at least have a copy to work from, in case the issue with Pages doesn't get resolved.
    Good luck!

  • Can't open a pages document

It seems it should be very easy to transfer between the 2 mac programs. but I cannot open a Pages document with another computer running Appleworks 6. Is it not possible to open a iWork Paes documnet using appleworks. I have exported from Pages the different file types: WORD screws up the format and fonts; PLAIN TEXT does the same and I can't open RTF, HTML, or PDF files with Appleworks. Can anybody help???

As Sagesse notes, AppleWorks can't open Pages documents because it was released/updated years before Pages was made available. Apple does not claim that AppleWorks can open Pages documents.
Pages does not perfectly convert every document to a Word format. Nothing but Word does this.
But, plain text is plain text. It has no formatting, fonts, styles, etc. That's why it's called plain text and why your formatting, etc is 'screwed up'.
Regarding Peggy's advice that AppleWorks cannot open Pages documents converted to RTF. This is generally true, but not technically true. In any case, it's easy to work around.
AppleWorks, Pages and Word can all open RTF files. However, if you include an image in a RTF file, it becomes a RTFD file. So because most Pages documents contain images, these files will be exported to a RTFD file format. AppleWorks and Word cannot handle a RTFD file. To work around this either: don't add images to your Pages documents, or open the the RTFD file (it's really just a folder containing a RTF file and the images) so you can open the RTF file in AppleWorks or Word.
HTML is a poor format to rely on for word processing documents they look different from browser to browser.
AppleWorks can only import PDF files, page-by-page, as images.
Before you consider purchasing MS Office, first download NeoOffice/J. It's a free clone of MS Office that does an almost perfect job at Office file translation.
    Cheers.
