I can,t open F Fox window w/o user account window asking permission.

When I click my Ffox shortcut icon a window pops up from User Account Control asking" Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer??" Then I get a yes/no choice. didn't used to do this step and I would like to eliminate it. Any ideas??/

Can't open Firefox or IE in other user accounts.

I am using, from the dock, Safari, Firefox 1.5 and IE 5.2.3 without any problems. However I have two other user accounts (family) who can use Safari but cannot open Firefox or IE-all they get is the bouncing icon in the
dock (no message windows). The only way out of this to force quit. We had been using all three browsers without any problems for a long time in each user account.
This problem I can only link to the latest Security Upgrade 2005.09. Is there a link or is it just coincidental.
Have run Disk Utility and repaired Permissions numerous times without any success solving the problem. Is there a solution anyone can offer?

I wondered the same, but i never did get an answer,so i do not know.
I had similar issues with the 1.5 version, i certainly understand your
frustration, i wanted to send it to space!!! i had to remove it.
I am sticking with Safari which I love. Also if Debug enable in menu bar
Safari can emulate a few browsers.
just be aware that there are some issues with the earlier versions of FF,

Can't open a project begun by another user account

I began a project and imported an XML file from iMovie08 -- not a bad way to go thru an initial pick-and-sort. I trimmed a bunch of clips and saved the project -- I have a second account on the computer that has an iPhoto library that I want to incorporate now. I want to switch users on the same computer and continue with the project.
So I saved the project, switched users, and copied the .fcp file, to get the ownership/permissions right.
Now user #2 'owns' the .fcp file but I can't 'open' it in FCE4. I get, "This project is unreadable or may be too new for this version of Final Cut." Any hints how to move between users? The video source files are on an external disk and it seems willing to share them among users.
(Has anyone else noticed that the forum 'search' function seems to have vanished?)

clips: Yes, only the sequence appears in FCE. Once open in the timeline you can drag a clip into the browser if you want to save it or use it more than once.
warnings: I followed your advice and then struggled further. Deleting the prefs and unmounting the external drive still returned the "project is unreadable..." message. If/when the files are online then the second message appears, too.
sequences: FCE will produce a 960x540 AIC 29.97 sequence if that's what you drop into a new/empty sequence. I've made a couple of other short clips with iMovie08 XML and there was no complaint. Capturing the 960x540 format saves a ton of space and the result is better than DV conversions. iDVD, Front Row, and QT playback seem okay with the format, too.
Primary account is still okay with this project/sequence. And the secondary account can open the original XML file from iMovie, so it's something about sharing .fcp files among users.
Maybe I'll try to drag all of my 960x540 clips into a DV sequence and see what happens.

Can't Open MS Office 2008 in 2nd User Account

Bought a new iMac, transferred everything from my old Mac including Office 2008 and now want to setup a separate user account for my wife. However, Office in the new user account starts in setup mode, checks for updates but then doesn't launch. I've tried repairing permissions still no luck.
Any ideas?

Where is Office 2008 located?
If it is located in the Applications folder in your Home directory that could be the reason that it can't be open from the second account. In order to be opened from all accounts on the Mac, it must be located in the Applications folder at Root.

     After Installation the Version 64 Bit couldn't work because of this
sentence (Windows 7 has 64 Bit Version). The 32 Bit Version worked
without problems. The next day both versions didn't work because of

How can I open a second window in iTunes?

When I see some albums in the the iTunes Store I want to check whether I have some of the songs already. The Search function in the Store only refers to the store and not to my Library. So how can I open a second window in iTunes (one with the Store and one with my Library) to make it easier to compare?

My understanding it that was removed from iTunes recently (I still run iTunes 7.5 from 2007), so no, not unless you downgrade iTunes (which is not easy). You can send feedback to Apple about reinstating it but I have yet to see Apple reinstate something that appeared to have been deliberately removed from its software, despite vociferous complaints on this forum.

Can I open two Safari windows at the same time and split the windows in two on my screen? Right now, I have to open Safari and Firefox to get the split screen. I know I can press command to get multiple tabs, but that's not what I want. I want to use Safari on two open windows.

It's 64-bit Windows 7 and every time I clicked "Agree" in tthe software license, it doesn't work.
Then the PC helping centre shows the following sentence:

There are various things this could be. First restart you computer
Check to see if you QUicktime works as iTunes can't work without it. If it doesn't work, describe what happens.
Then run a virus and spyware scan as malware has been known to do this.
Then check to see if disabling your forewall allows iTunes to start, this hasn't been seen for a while, but in the past firwall blocking has caused iTunes to hang.

How do I burn a CD or DVD that can be opened on a Windows PC?
Here's what we tried - and none of this worked when we tried the CD and DVD at our local library on their Dell, Compaq and IBM PCs.
1. We have 11 documents composed in Word (2004) in .rtf format with many, many photos embedded. The documents are in a folder.
We first created a disk image of the folder using Disk Utility: File> Create image from folder. Once we had the .dmg which was about 1.16 GB we burned this onto a DVD choosing no compression and no encryption. This DVD worked fine on the MBP but it wasn't even recognized by any of the PCs at the library.
2A. We tried to compress the folder to burn it onto a CD. In DU, by choosing compression with no encryption we reduced it to about 530MB. For some unknown reason when we tried to burn this onto a CD using DU, we got the message that the CD didn't have enough space. It is a 700MB CD so that made no sense - does anyone know why this would occur?
2B. So, we went to the Finder to use its burn option. We were able to put the 530MB compressed folder which we created in DU onto a CD using the Finder. Again, this worked fine on the Mac. At the library this CD was recognized by the PCs, but Word couldn't open it. Once we got a message that it was too large to be opened (bigger than 32MB!) - the librarian did not recognize this as a default that they might have set. Mostly, we got the message that Windows could not open the document.
What should we have done? What should we do to achieve this? I know there must be a way.

This sounds like a good idea, but the CD is a gift for a friend in India and presenting him with a flash drive just won't be the same. (Although I suppose we could take the drive with us and burn something there - but that's too risky if it fails on the ground and besides, what we'd have on the drive would be Mac created, unless you have an idea on how to get around that - DU DVD/CD master? convert?)

The original folder as a dmg was 1.16GB too big for a CD. As a compressed file done in DU it was about 530MB and as a zip it is 450 or thereabouts. The files are on the MBP and I am on the G4 now and it is not turned on.
The fairly easy to use application the link takes you to, has almost no learning curve.
It will not compress an item, but you can easily; to include putting items in folders and
then use Create Archive to make them one package...
The Burn 2.3 utility makes Mac+PC compatible disc recordings, in DVD and CD media.
The simple interface is why it is handy. Otherwise, one could probably get by with the
other methods which are native to the Mac; through other steps...
I'm not sure what I am gaining at this point in time by doing this - if you both think archive (zip) and burn from finder will work.
This does sound like something we can definitely use in the future, thanks.

I am trying to call another web dynpro application as an external window from ESS DC.
I am doing something like this in the action handler method:

Normally you open the inspector by clicking on the little gear icon in a clip. If that is not working, I would suggest...
1) Shut down iMovie.
2) Trash the iMovie Preferences. See this post for instructions.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
