I can't open files in the Downloads menu (accidental duplicate, please ignore)

Every time I download a file (either open or save), it never opens automatically, and I can't open it by clicking the entry in the Downloads menu/panel. I am able to "Open Containing Folder" and use the file normally from there, or go to the Library and double click the file, but it is annoying that files that I choose to open don't open.
I am using Aurora, but the problem persists in the stable version of Firefox.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. <br>

*Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

  • Can't open files that are downloaded

    Hi,
I can't open up the files that are downloaded. When I try to open them up, they all say "the file may be corrupted". What's going on and how can I fix this?
    Thank you

I am having trouble opening .dmg, .xls, and .ppt files. Most recently I tried to download a printer driver from the HP website that is a .dmg and it opened a window to save a binary file and saved as a Quicktime file. The .ppt file was a forward in an email and the .xls file was a file from another Mac. I have no idea why this is happening.

  • Can't open files i have downloaded

I can't open the files i have downloaded. Like, connectivity drive and the themes.

The Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver? On which computer operating-system did you install that, or more specific: Which Windows version do you use?

  • How do open files in the "downloads" directory of Firefox (right clicking does not work)?

In the toobar settings and I have it set to download files and programs on to my desktop-it does not. Instead all downloads go the "downloads" file and when I attempt to open these programs or files with a right-click or any other technique-it does not work.
If at all possible, please call me to resolve this issue at (714) 392-2280. Thanks.

    Hi Milesb,
I'd try starting Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If you don't have the issue while all of your add-ons, extensions, and themes are disabled, you can try adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit. The [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting-extensions-themes Extensions and Themes] Knowledge base article will help.
You might also want to take a look at [[Preferences are not saved]].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Can't open files where the name starts with a number

On our network server, we have some folders where the files are numbered. Example:
    1 - Memo
    2 - Agenda
    3 - Report X
    4 - Report Y
    5 - Report Z
We have 5 Macs in our office. Everybody can read these files fine except for one person. On her computer she can't open any file that starts with a number and gets the below error message. How do I fix this?
All our Macs (to the best of my knowledge) are setup exactly the same since they were purchased at the same time late last year.

  • Can't open files from the 'net...

Whenever I try to open a file downloaded from the net, it opens with TextEdit...same thing with radio station add-ons...how can i stop/fix this?

    Gaming Grampa wrote:
Yes, it is City of Heroes, and renaming the file sent it to the zip archive...when i try to open it, it duplicates itself... the site says i need a .NET 2.0 framework...?
    Hi,
the .Net 2.0 framework is an application layer which is only used with Microsoft Windows !
Therefor the zip file you have seems to also be for Windows only and can not be run in OSX.
If you are running the CoH game while in Windows, you can download the .Net framework from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=0856eacb -4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5
Later versions of the .Net framework can be found, when scrolling down on that website.
As said you can only use this when running Windows on your Mac, not in OSX.

  • Can't open files in the Bluetooth File Exchange

I've had this problem before, but some how fixed it. Now it's not working again. I'm trying to get my pictures from my phone (RAZR) to put them onto my laptop. This is what I do:
I open the BT File Exchange > browse device > select browse > the audio, pictures, video folders come up > i double click the pictures folder...
This is where the problem starts. After I click on the pictures folder, it says "getting folder contents..." and then it says that the operation is complete, BUT it doesnt open the folder, or it says "The last operation failed: bad request." It just stays on the screen with the audio, pictures, and video folders.
Any idea's on how to fix this?

    Hey,
Heres a site you might want to look at. I can't stress enough how important it is before you can transfer, to add the feature on Bluetooth. I have found it works better. You need to do it in the Bluetooth Preferences. Make sure you can sync it with everything else before trying File Exchange.
    I hope that helps,
    Jon

  • Can't open files by clicking

I have a sweet new macbook pro that has been working fine for months. recently, i can't open files on the desktop (any files or applications) by clicking on them. I have to go to the top bar and click on "file" and scroll down to "open" and then it works. But double clicking or clicking at all doesn't work. Can anyone help? I know this is probably a simple fix.

You need to go to System Preferences>Trackpad and fix your preferences. Sounds like something got changed. I would look at the double click speed.
    Basic preferences don't change automatically.

  • How can I save a file in the Downloads folder and automatically have it opened?

Often, I'd like to download a file, save it to my Downlaods folder and have it opened right away.
Currently, you can only decide between the two options "open" or "save to...". There's seemlingly no way Firefox can do both at once.
I know I can download it, open the downloads manager and open it manually. But when working with over a dozen documents a day, that doesn't quite do the trick.
In Chrome, you only have to click twice: Once for downloading and once for opening it from the download bar on the bottom of the screen. You do not have to open a download manager.

Yeah, thanks but that's not what I was trying to ask.
I know that you can save and open a document by performing these three steps:
    1. Confirming to save a file to the Downloads folder
    2. Open the download manager by clicking the temporarily green arrow
    3. Clicking on the downloaded file
What I would like to know is whether or not it is possible to have Firefox open a saved file ''automatically''. At the moment, if I choose to open it automatically, it is only saved to my temp folder.
It would be great though if it was saved to my Downloads folder ''and'' opened with the respective program on my pc. Is there a way to do this?

  • After o download the browser ,i get message that says can not open file what do i need to do to download the browser i have tried 5 times get same message

its the same shit i asked before after i download the browser i get message can not open file what do i do to dwonload the browser

That message is usually a sign that you tried to roll back to an earlier build of iTunes, but occasionally I've seen it connected to a new upgrade. This technique should fix things.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Can't open files from download bar

I use Google Chrome as my default browser and it annoys me how I cannot open files I've downloaded from the download bar.
When I try to click "Show File in Finder" it doesn't seem to work also.
Oh, and when I receive files from Skype, I can't seem to click the eye button to open the file.
Currently using a 15" MacBook Pro with Retina Display with OS X 10.9.2
Anyone know how to fix this issue? Thank you.

If those functions are internal to those Apps, you'll have to ask Google how to fix it.
However, you might try Repairing Permissions in Disk Utility. It sounds like it might be one of those rare situations that might be helped by that tool.
If it is not internal to those things, please describe what you mean by the "download bar" and the "eye button."

  • I can no longer download files. The download manager comes up and indicates file is downloading, but it isn't.

I can't download any files. The download window appears and indicates file is downloading, but it doesn't. I had to open IE to download latest version of Firefox. I have reset all download values to default. I have changed the location of file downloads and I've cleared the download manager.

You can find the original download location if you paste the code posted in this link in the Code field in the Error Console and click the Evaluate button.
    *Firefox/Tools > Web Development > Error Console
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/User:Dickvl/JavaScript_Error_Console#Download_Manager
That will give a pop-up with data about the currently selected file in the Download Manager window.<br />
That same data appears as a tooltip if you hover the icon at the left side of an entry in the Download Manager.
If the files are missing in that location then there must be some software running that deleted the files.
Did you disable the virus check initiated by Firefox as well?
