I can't open Firefox because it crashes at startup even in Safe Mode. How can I fix this?

I updated to the latest version of Ff V19 is it?
I am on WinXP with AVG (8.5.455) antivirus. Both are fully uptodate.
In AVG I have disabled "Link Scanner" and "Resident Shield" in case these were interfeering with Ff.
Google Chrome is behaving the same - crash report dialog appears immediatly on launch (and on PC start up).

I found two Toolbars; Searchqu and ALOT, and removed them both.
I suspect Searchqu was the culprit because I saw "datamngr" flash by as the uninstaller was working away.

Firefox experiences random crashes which persist even in safe mode (linux + gnome)

Since maybe version 29, my Firefox has become less stable than before and started to crash for seemingly no reason; sometimes it crashed shortly after started with few tabs on, and sometimes it crashed when many tabs were open or (not constantly) with music playing. In short I cannot find an exact pattern by which crashes are triggered. Only one thing is certain, once it broke down, it kept crashing on every restart (even in safe mode or with the user preference directory reset by a complete removal), until a reboot.
I checked some threads, where people suggest that such random crashes may be caused by a flawed RAM, but I feel it unlikely because in this same system no other software (including Chromium) have shown similar problem, and on Windows the same computer Firefox (v31) has been rather stable.
Although it didn't happen frequently, the need to reboot the computer before Firefox gets usable again is really annoying. I appreciate a lot if anyone could give some hints, thanks.

desktop: Gnome 3.10.2
cpu: AMD C-60 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics × 2

I have tried a complete un-install and reinstall but choose to keep all my settings (eg bookmarks) etc as I don't want to loose my bookmarks.

The likely problem is use of certain Oracle etc software, the developer Oracle being aware of the problem and working on a fix. Meanwhile there is a registry hack as a potential workaround, or the simpler workaround of downgrading temporarily to firefox 3.6.23.

Firefox opens as clear window in W7 64bit; same in safe-mode - how do I fix that?

W7 64bit Firefox suddenly started opening as a clear window, only a red cross top right hand corner. Tried re-downloadiing and reinstalling and same issue.
Tried running in safe mode
Have restarted computer
Can run Google Chrome (don't want to use IE so quickly got chrome) without any issues and have not changed anything on the computer before it stopped working or after.
Last windows updates were over a week ago and firefox was working fine after that.
I have just recently done a AV scan with threats removed but again Firefox was working after that and after many shutdown/restarts after that.
A week prior to this issue I edited start up via MSCONFIG to stop some unwanted programs running at startup - again, many restarts and shutdowns since then with Firefox working successfully each day.

please also do an in-depth scan of your system with the security software already in place and/or a different tool like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] & keep firefox and your plugins up-to-date in order to stay safe on the web.

You could try my script ConvertFormat and see if you like the results. Would be easier than inserting the CDs and correcting the tag info again. Just be aware this is a one-way trip. Once you've thrown away some quality to shrink the files you can't get it back without going back to the source. You may better off investing in a bigger drive.
If you just want to squeeze more on the iPod you can use the built-in iTunes option to convert files to a lower bitrate as they are added to the device.

I see that you may be having an issue with compatibility of iTunes when connecting your iOS device. This sort of issue can arise if you have two versions of iTunes installed on your computer, which I feel may be the case. Here is an article that can tell you how to identify the version of iTunes that you have open:

If the version of iTunes that is opened is not the version you are required to use for the iOS device in question, try searching through your computer or applications folder to see if there may be two versions of iTunes installed on your computer. I was trying to change settings to access the comments section of Slate.com. Right or wrong, I changed a Java setting from -1 to 2. The setting was in about:config and I believe it involved some sort of max. As I cannot open anything, I am not sure.
When I made the change, firefox crashed immediately, Every time I have tried to reopen, even in safe mode, it immediately crashes again and will not reopen.

Sorry you are having problems.
For future reference. Those of us that mess directly with about:config soon learn how to recover from mistakes and what it is sensible to backup. Occasionally backing up your entire profile for instance can be useful and would have probably given you a quick solution of copying over the file from that backup.

Ok on to the subject of trying to get Firefox back as it was:
Find your profile and the file ''prefs.js'' and rename that. (The renamed file is a potentially useful backup.) Firefox is then forced to regenerate the file and will reset your preferences to the default. You can then re open and use Firefox. Next try to get it back to normal.
Trying to manually edit the file ''prefs.js'' is normally a bad idea. However if it is a single pref change it may be possible to directly edit the prefs.js file (whilst Firefox is closed) to get everything back to how it was before . You have the renamed file to work with. Probably best to test all this out in a new additional profile then you only break additional test profiles not working profiles essential to Firefox.
