I can't open indesign cc 2014 on Mac

I'm receiving a notice to say "To open Adobe InDesign CC 2014 you need to install a Java runtime, but you are not connected to the internet". But I am connected to the internet.

Hi Esther Schwarz,
Please check permission on following location. It should be Read and Write
~/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/<Version #>/
If it doesn't worked please try to reset the preferences Troubleshooting 101: Replace, or "trash" your InDesign preferences
Hope this helps.

Installed InDesign CC 2014.  Tried to open the program and received error:
"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library: Runtime Error!
    Program: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CC 2014\InDesign.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information."

Given that you have had previous installations (like InDesign CS6) navigate to
    C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\Version 10.0\en_GB\Caches
and try to remove the contents of InDesign Recovery folder except for the file called RecoveryData. I also deleted InDesign ClipboardScrap files.
    Then I went to
    C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe
and noticed, that I had "Adobe InDesign" folder that contained PREVIOUS installation (9.0) and "InDesign" folder with the current version (10.0). I deleted first folder (Adobe InDesign), renamed "InDesign" to "Adobe InDesign" went into it:
    C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe InDesign\Version 10.0\en_GB
and renamed InDesign Defaults (InDesign will recreate the file during opening, but you'll probably have to backup the workspace files.)
Then with the heart in my throat I launched InDesign and it f**king worked!!!
If that doesn't do for you mail me at [email protected] because I recreated the procedure from memory so I could have forgotten something important! But I'm 99% sure it was all I did.
HOPE it works for all of you too!

  • Can not open Indesign CC 2014

Every time I open InDesign it comes up with " a problem caused the program to stop working and has to shut down", I can't use it, and Illustrator does the same thing, but not photoshop?. I bought the creative cloud suite program and so far, it's a waste of money because I can't even use it!!! I have windows 8.1, I think that is the problem?, the compatibility mode list only goes up to windows8?. I uncheck the box, but that doesn't work either?

Set Windows Explorer to show hidden files, then go to Users\<your username>\AppData and find the Adobe folders in both the Local and Roaming subfolders. Check the permissions to be sure both System and your user have full control on the folder and all subfolders.

  • I can't open InDesign CC 2014 (OS X 10.9.5), because I don't have the rights for the preferences file.

But I changed erverything - still doesn't run.
    What can I do?

  • Can't start InDesign CC 2014

I have got the same problem as mentioned in this thread:
    Re: can't open indesign 2014
Unfortunately the solution mentioned there doesn’t work for me.
My newly installed InDesign CC 2014 doesn’t start, the errors message says I haven‘t got the required permissions for access to the preferences folder.
    What I tried:
    - I copied the preferences folder ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Adobe InDesign/9.0 to ..../10.0
(first only the folder, then including AppPrefs.xml, both didn’t help)
    These folders have owner "myusername"/"staff"
    - tried Disk Utility to repair permissions
    System is MacOSX Mavericks (10.9.3)
Every other InDesign version starts fine (CS5.5 to CC), also the new Photoshop works.
Any other folders to check? Which permissions for which user are required?
    Thanks for some hints ...

    Hello Martin,
    1. Maybe you have to activate/deactivate, so please have a look there:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-deactivation-products.html
2, Sometimes, we know in the meantime, the "opm.db file" is the culprit. In this case you should delete it.
    3. Did you already try "uninstalling and re-installing"?
Be careful with (de)installing aso. by (de)installing by your own resources. As much as I regret it and as strange as it may seem I fear it's a challenge for Adobe's Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool.
Sometimes - for whatever reasons - CC doesn't "want" to work. In this case you should CC completely delete and reinstall by help of Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. (A try to uninstall by own resources is not enough!)
I quote: Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool helps resolve installation problems for Adobe Creative CloudCS6) applications. The tool removes installation records for prerelease installations of Creative Cloud or Creative Suite applications. It does not affect existing installations of previous versions of Creative Cloud or Creative Suite applications.
Please use: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html   and follow the prescribed sequence of operations
    4. If necessary and for further questions click through http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html or http://helpx.adobe.com/de/contact.html and if "open" please use chat, I had the best experiences.
    Good luck!

I can't open InDesign 7.5 in OS 10.9.4. Are they incompatible?

It should be. What happens when you try?
Did you copy or migrate your InDesign files to a new computer? That won't work. You would need to remove all the CS files with the Adobe Cleaner tool, then reinstall from a clean installed copy.

  • InCopy CS5 can't open InDesign, InCopy CC can

I have CS5 to CC installed on my machine (MAC). Using indesign CS5 to create a layout then export all stories for inCopy. InCopy CS5 cannot open the indd. CC can... I can open the individual .icml files though. If I use InCopy CC, I can check in > edit > check out and save. InDesign CS5 will be able to re-open. A bit confuse now on why InCopy CS5 can't open InDesign files anymore. Event files created pre CC update. Attached are the errors I get when trying to open with InC CS5. Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks.

I know. That's why I don't understand. I really used CS5 to work with InCopy CS5. Even try older files that were saved prior to CC-CS6 update and I get the same error. Didn't have InCopy CS5. Install the demo version. Can it be the issue?

-using the cleaner after uninstalling and before reinstalling will usually help

  • Can not open photshop CC 2014     ERROR  could not initialize Photoshop because of a program error

    Hi
I can not open Photshop CC 2014
    ERROR
could not initialize Photoshop because of a program error

I've had the same error happen to me.  I deleted the preferences file, updated JAVA, etc.  none of which worked.
I've spent days systematically working to isolate the variable that seems to make Photoshop work one day and "not initialize" the next.  I simply can't afford to stop work when Photoshop doesn't want to initialize due to: PSOWLListenerProxyBaseCocoa.mm : 52 : REQUIRE failed
Apologies, but I REQUIRE YOU TO INITIALIZE!
I think that I've isolated the problem.  I have a dual monitor set-up.  Sometimes I use the second monitor and sometimes I don't, sometimes monitor 2 is powered on and sometimes it's not.  It's really the only thing with any variance on my system.  I disconnected my second monitor.  Then I clicked the Photoshop icon and the program opened...
I am running OS X 10.9 and Photoshop CS 5.1
There appears to be a link between Photoshop not wanting to initialize and Graphics Card / Monitors.

  • How can i open my iBook on my Mac, not just on my iPhone

    Hi,
how can i open my iBook on my Mac, not just on my iPhone?  I ask this questions in hopes that I can eventually find a way to have the iPhone read a non "Enhanced" iBook to me.
I used the Accessibility reader for a brief time but it's very persinickety.  Move the phone a tiny bit and it threw me out from page 70 and back to page 48.  Changing pages when you are in Accessibility is excruciating. Now, I cannot get back there at all.
I downloaded 2 apps that claim they can read to me but the closest I can get in the instructions says I need to open the iBook from my Mac computer with my iPhone connected and then I will be able to open the iBook in the app called "Read text to me".  Only when I go to open the book on my Mac it says "This book can’t be viewed using this computer. You can view this book using iBooks on your iOS device."
Thank god, I only have a brain tumor and am not yet completely blind.
I've been to the Apple store twice, checked out a youtube page with all it's comments and I am still nowhere, over the course of a week.
    Can anybody help me?
    thank you,
    Ellen

    You cannot.
Ibooks are only for iphone/ipod touch/ipad
So, there are no third party readers/emulators in Mac OS X and Windows to read them from iTunes? I don't even own an iOS device. I just redeemed Action Comics' Superman #1 from Starbucks and iTunes.
    This one?
Where the REQUIREMENTS spell out that an iOS device is needed to read it?

No. Reader will not damage files. It is only meant to read pdf files. PDF files are frequently damaged when sent as email due to encoding issues.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
