I can't open InDesign CS5 file in CS6

I created a document at work in CS5. I saved it as an INDD file and transferred it so I could work on it at home. However I have CS6 and whenever I try to open this file, my InDesign loads to about 80% and then just freezes. I can't do or click anything. It never crashes, just gets to the point where I have to ctrl+alt+dlt each time.
I am using a Windows 7 computer.
I need to finish this for tomorrow and I don't have access to InDesign CS5 at all to make it an IDML file or fix any fonts.
What do I do?

Try open as a copy, and/or the script at Adobe Community: InDesign 6 is crashing when attempting to open a particular document. All others are opening OK.

  • Restoring a "mini save" to OPEN InDesign cs5 file through InDesign Recivery

using time machine, can I go back to a previously OPEN (not saved) indesign cs5 file to get to the "mini save" of the file? the file was open as time machine was running (overnight)
A tech person didn't save the changes I made to the indesignfile before restarting my computer, so right now on the hard drive there is no recovery data I can use.
Looking in the time machine back-ups, It looks like there is no "cache" in the "library" in any of the time machine saves. (so there is no "InDesign Recovery" file, right?) why not? isn't time machine making an exact copy of my hard drive?

    var myDocName = myDoc.name;

  • Can not open InDesign CS5 after updating to Yosemite.

I cannot open InDesign CS5 after updating my iMac to OS X Yosemite. I received an error message that said I need to install the legacy Java SE runtime.
I searched through the topics in this Forum, and followed what was recommended.
I have installed the most current legacy Java SE 8 runtime and verified that it is on my computer,
then rebooted the computer, a 2014 iMac. I have uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign CS5.
I still receive the error message that I need to install the legacy Java SE runtime. Next steps?

CS5 is NOT supported under Yosemite. Additionally, in place operating system upgrades are nothing short of a crapshoot.
Try uninstalling, running the cleaner tool and reinstalling. If that doesn’t help a clean install of the operating system is in order.
Even then you’re on your own.

  • Can't Open CC project file in CS6

I edited my videos in Adobe Premiere Pro CC, but I can't open the CC project file in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6. The message says 'The project appears to be damaged, it cannot be opened.' Is there a way to convert the project so that it works for CS6?

So how did you open it?
I downloaded your file: "from-CC.prproj" (link in post 10).
I duplicated the Project and renamed it: "from-CC_Version23_CS5".
I opened the file in Dreamweaver, and changed '26' to '23', then saved:
I opened the altered file "from-CC_Version23_CS5" in CS5.0.3.
On opening in CS5.0.3, I got this error message:
    I clicked "OK".
The Project opens asking for location of "Video-Frame-White-Test.jpg".
    I clicked "Offline".
The Project opened, and Sequence Properties are [email protected]:
I replaced your .jpg with a stock clip:
I saved the file in CS5.0.3, then exited.
Then I opened and renamed the saved file in CS6.0.5:
    note:
I was unable to alter the 'Version Number" to from '26' to '25'
and open the Project directly into CS6.0.5:

  • Can't open CC IMDL files in CS6

    Hi Guys,
I downloaded some files which have been made in Adobe Creative Cloud InDesign, and they also sent the IDML files with the file, but my Indesign CS6 just won't open the IDML's?
    What to do now?
    Thanks!
    Bob

    Hi,
I I have the very same problem.
I have a client who needs some files, she is on CS6 so I exported them as IDML (I have InDesign CC 2014). She can't open them, I can't either. The application open normally but the file doesn't shows up, the application is not responding, so I forced quit it.
I try to export them on another computer with InDesign CC (not 2014), doesn't work. I restarted the computer, still doesn't work. I tried the "save as IDML" instead of Export, still doesn't work.
    UPDATE:
While I was writing this message, I let InDesign CS6 running even if it "was not responding" and after like 5 minutes, the file opened...

  • Can you open InDesign CS files into CS5?

    Hi all,
My former company wishes to upgrade their ooooooooooold software to the latest version:) They currently have InDesign CS and want to make the leap to CS5. The question is...will it be possible to open their current CS files into CS5 once they make the switch? This is really important of course.
Thank you very much in advance for your help:)
    Christine

    Did you try https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?ref=sup&product=indesign?
Anyhow, if it fails, it should be the latter, or something else busted; Creative Suite Trial Versions says:
    CS5.5 trials
Creative Suite 5.5 product trials will be available for download soon.  Be notified when they are available.
    CS5 trials for suites
Trials of CS5 products are still available for download, below.

  • HOW CAN I OPEN A CS5 FILE TO CS3???

hi I been having this problem with most the files, i dont know why its so difficult if i am using the same program even though one is an upgrade than the other can someone please help!????

As Colin points out, backward compatibility is seldom going to work, or work well.
An alternate is to Export an intermediate file from CS5, to be Imported into CS3, and a new Project/Sequence.
Two schools of thought on doing so:
Edit completely and finally in CS5, as you will no longer have things like Handles, etc., in your newly Exported intermediate file. It will be hard to re-edit, but you can certainly do things like Titles, Audio additions, PiP and overlays.
Edit very loosely, leaving adequate Handles in each Clip, and NOT adding any Transitions. The tight editing would then be done in the older version, and Transitions, etc., would be added there.
I would look into a lossless CODEC, like the Lagarith Lossless, for the intermediate file. Note: it would have to be installed on both machines, and one would have to consider the 32-bit on the CS3 machine, and the 64-bit version on the CS5 machine. I do not know how well, or poorly, those might play with each other, but I am sure that others can direct you, or perhaps suggest an alternative.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - I also think that you meant something different than "CS4 into CS4... " above.
PPS - It is usually easier going UP a version, or two, though even that can hold some problems, just waiting to strike.

  • How to open InDesign CC files in CS6?

I am trying to take files from a flash drive for Indesign CS6, his version is CC9.0 mine is cc 8.0.2 is there anything I can do to make it open in my version?
    Thanks,

If you are a cloud subscrber, why are you not upgrading to CC 2014?
If you can't upgrade, you have to export it from the newer version as IDML file and open this in the older version and save it as INDD. Best practice from CC214 would be to make a package and include IDML and PDF. But expect changes in the IDML workflow, it is not intended to use in workflow forward and backward between different versions.

  • Acrobat and InDesign CS5 file issue

    Hi everyone...
My issue is that Acrobat won't or can't convert InDesign CS5 files. It opens Illustrator and Photoshop and converts them to pdf's but not InDesign.
I've tried everything. I've even tried Adobe tech help. No luck. It was a relatively easy procedure in CS4, not to mention a time saver.
Is there someone that knows how to resolve this? Please help as I'm desperate to avoid having to convert all my InDesign files one at a time.

    Hi Matthew-
Our workflow often involves combining multiple IND files into a pdf.  With CS4, we merely opened acrobat, clicked "Merge Files into a Single PDF" and dropped in the indesign files we wished to combine. Presto- we had one PDF with all IND files put together without having to go through indesign.
In response to your post, I only have CS5 installed, and it seems as though Acrobat doesn't recognize ID CS5 as a program at all.   I believe I am current on all InDesign and Acrobat 9 updates to date - I'm running InDesign7.0.2 and Acrobat 9.3.4.
When trying to open IND files through Acrobat, Acrobat launches and gives an error message that states: "Please select a file created by an application that resides on your computer."
Acrobat can't call InDesign CS5 to open at all.  Could this be because Acrobat was not updated along with the CS5 suite and therefore doesn't recognize the new CS5 Indesign files?
I read another blog that mentioned it could be a registry problem- they ran CCleaner and ran the registry fix.  Then uninstalled and reinstalled both Acrobat and Indesign.  What are your thoughts on this method?  It's hard for me to try this on my own, as it requires an administrative login- our IT department has us locked out.  I would like another opinion before I ask them to help.
Do you forsee a fix from Adobe in the future?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Layer Pallet issues with CS5 files in CS6

Opening Illustrator CS5 files in CS6 causes the visibilty icons, layer names, and layer thumbnails to disappear  from the layers pallet. Objects are still there as are the layers and sub layers but I am unable to identify them in the layers pallet (see screen shot of CS6 panel and CS5 layeers panel). Have tried changing Panel Options. Have also tried changing the file names which it lets me do but disappear as soon as I leave the pallet. Also have tried pasting into a new document with "paste remember layers" but they arive in the new document the same way. The only thing that seems to work is pasting one layer at a time into a new document, and naming it at that time. This also provides the layer thumbnail. This is not a small issue as I have thousands of CS5 files which I will need to work with.
    I am on a iMAC, running OS X 10.6.8

Try turning off the "Do not print" for this layer
Do you have the Verdana italic font properly installed on your machine?

  • InDesign CS5 (Mac OS 10.6) can not open its own file

I need guidance to open an artwork file that in one hour I have to send to the print shop. InDesign refuses to open its own file.
    Any clue? Adobe, please help.

Re: InDesign CS5 (Mac OS 10.6) can not open its own file
    Bob and Peter
Thank your for helping us out. It was really necessary to ask a coworker to open the file and export it in InDesign markup language.
Three hours later than expected, but it's done!
We are stuck here. I'm a Master Collection user of CS5, using only Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Bridge and Acrobat Pro. (I don't know why I bought the Master's). My coleague former Window user, got a Mac in May and downloaded the trial version of Design Studio Standard Collection of CS5.5. Before expiring, we purchased its license and filled it in the active trial version.
A couple of months ago we noticed that were missed Plug Ins on his version and contacted Adobe who instructed us to download the whole files again. We never did because it is a pain to get rid of the missing parts of a pre installed trial version etc.
I will ask Adobe to send a CD disk for his version.

    Junia
