I can't open InDesign CS6 files by double clicking on them.

I have changed Preferences in the application and have changed them in Windows, too.  The app opens but does not open the file.  Anyone else have a fix for this?

Check the registry. The standard key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.indd should be "Indesign.Document".
Then in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InDesign.Document there should be a standard key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InDesign.Document\Shell\Open\Command with the path to Indesign, like this "D:\Tools\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS6\InDesign.exe" "%1".
Then it should actually work.
In case the icons are wrong, there are two keys in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InDesign.Document\Icons\Default that can be fixed.

  • Can't Open Indesign CS6 Files In CC

How do you open indesign CS6 files in CC?

That sounds like there is no file association for .indd, and I'll bet you uninstalled CS6 or some other older version after you installed CC. If that's the case, uninstall and reinstall CC to repair the damage to common files and the file association.

  • Will I be able to open InDesign CS6 files from the latest CC version?

Considering Cloud purchase and want to check compatibility. Will I be able to open InDesign CS6 files from the latest CC version? Thanks for any advice on this.

You can open files in CC from CS6 and earlier.
Due to updates to the text engines you might notice a text reflow - note that text won't reflow until it's interacted with.

  • Can't open folders or emails by double clicking mouse

I can't open folders or emails by double clicking my mouse. I was using a corded Apple mouse, so I switched to a Logitech cordless optical mouse, still can't open them. I can open my folder with command O, but not email. Any suggestions?

This worked for me: I trashed my mouse prefs, then restarted, then -- goto System Prefs --> Keyboard/Mouse --> Mouse --> Double-Click Speed: Now move the speed a minimum of one notch below FAST.
Yesterday I installed a Logitech MX Revolution, cordless mouse and lost the ability to double click with it and with my Mighty Mouse. Resetting the double click speed below FAST miraculously reset.
    All seems OK now.

  • Can't open InDesign CS6

I am trying to open up InDesign CS6 which I downloaded 3 years ago. At one point I did have InDesign CC but I never used it and canceled my "subscription" about a year ago. Now when I try to open InDesign CS6, it automatically takes me to the Adobe "Renew Subscription" window for CC. I have never had this problem with Photoshop or Illustrator and I used/have both CS6 and CC for those applications. HOW DO I OPEN InDesign CS6??

uninstall everything cc on your computer and then run the cleaner for cc, Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
then open id cs6>click help>activate>enter your serial number.
if that fails, uninstall id cs6, clean for cs6 and then reinstall id cs6.

  • Can't open InDesign and PPT files by double-clicking on them IN A FOLDER

PPT is MS Office 2004, all other MS programs ok. InDesign is CS4. Files are not corrupt, because they open on two more computers. The computer is brand new. I first installed Office, then CS4. The applications open, but the files don't open when I double-click on them IN A FOLDER. If I go to Open and select the file in the folder, then it opens. If I double-click on it IN A FOLDER, it doesn't open. I tried to do the Info panel thing, where you pick the program for the file, and that didn't work. Also, if I drag the file to the desktop, and double-click on it, it will open. A kind volunteer support person said there was an article about this in MACWorld in Dec. 2009, but I tried the suggestions and it still doesn't work. Basically, I need to use InDesign everyday for world, so this is a major problem.

I have a client with a similar issue regarding InDesign CS4. When double-clicking InDesign files on the server, the InDesign application will launch but the document will not open. Opening the document using the Open command in the File menu in InDesign works fine. This issue does not occur in any other CS4 application. To further complicate the matter, another user at the same location running the same version of the Mac OS (10.6.2) and CS4 does not have this issue. I have tried a fresh install of Mac OS X 10.6.2 and CS4 but the issue persists. I have tried creating a new user account and using the authentication credentials of the user that doesn't have this issue to connect to the server on the problem computer but still the issue persists. Prior to doing the fresh install, I swapped the hard drives between the two computers, but the problem stayed with the hard drive, not the computer, which is what prompted me to perform the fresh install.
Have you come across any new information?

  • Can I open Premier CS6 file created on PC, in CS5 on Mac

I am working on a video simultaneously with another editor, the idea is that we both edit and both projects should hopefully be vastly different and then once complete to make a master project and take the best cuts of both projects.  Initially we were both on CS5 however the other editor has upgraded to CS6.  He is editing on a PC and I am editing on a Mac.  I am not worried about what CS6 might have to offer, all I want is to be able to use his cuts in my version of CS5. Will This work? Will the projects be able to open accross the different OS and also backwards from CS6 to CS5?

    Harm Millaard wrote:
there is no full compatibility between OS
So basically this means you can still open a PC project on the Mac and vice versa. Using Final Cut Pro and CS5 I was able to export an XML file for premiere and open the project in Premiere Pro CS5 without missing any transitions. The audio tacks was just as they were in FCP!
There is no backward compatibility in Adobe video products except Photoshop and Illustrator.

  • Can I Open a CS6 File in CS5?

So I guess the question asks it all.
Can I open an Adobe Dreamweaver html doucment in CS5 if I've made it in CS6?
Just wondering cause I want to do some work on a project at home.
Thanks in advance, hope this question isn't too noobish (it probably is...)

Absolutely.  You might not see all the new GUI features (ie: fluid grid), but the code will remain the same.

  • Error when opening a .fm file w/ double-click

    WinXP/Pro, patched up.
    FrameMaker 7.0p579
On a network drive, when I double-click to open most .fm files, I get critical error and FM load aborts.
This does not happen when I do this for files on local hard drive.
For the net drive files, if I first open FrameMaker THEN double click the file, all is normal.
I understand this is related to long pathnames (we certainly have that!!); and I can verify by shortening a directory or filename to only a few characters.
My question is whether I can change code in one of my .ini files to remedy this.
Others in my group do not have the issue. In fact, frustrating me is that some of them are running FM v7.0p578, while others are also running p579.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Dave

    No joy.
If I understand the issue correctly, the file path, from the Drive Letter to the file extension (inclusive) - including spaces and special characters - is still X number of characters long. As I write this, I got the idea to test how many it is, and how many need lopped off.
Current PathLen = 118 (in some cases, this is 5 to 15 characters longer)
    PathLen that works = 91
Confirmed 92 characters and more induce the failure mode.
The break-point number derived by renaming the FM file to "1.fm", then removing one character at a time from directory name until double clicking the file would open successfully.
    Thanks for the input!

  • Mouse failing to open folders and files with double click.

Mouse suddenly decided not to open anything with double click. It will highlight with single click but will not open files. Could I have a broken mouse? Could a virus be causing this? I have checked the mouse settings under System preferences and made sure my pc-using children have not set the mouse to second-click status. Any ideas?

Check back in system preferences > mouse > Double-click speed.  Move the slider to the slower end of the scale.

  • Opening an ai file by double clicking file icon - Windows XP

When I have an ai file on that is on my desktop and I double click, the window that opens does not fill my screen, when it opens it only takes up 1/2 the screen.    Ai use to open up a full screen when doing this, but not anymore.  I've attached a screen shop of what I get.
    Any help would be great!
    TIA
    Karleen

Ai use to open up a full screen when doing this...
Unlikely. This has been a known problem with Illustrator Win, and, to my knowledge, it has not been fixed... and here we are at version 14. I've railed about it for years, but now I've given up.

The last of those links contains a workaround I've been using, which entails starting AI via a batch file and changing the .ai file association to that batch procedure.
If you used to get a "full screen," you were just getting a "normal" (not maximized) window that was about the same size as your screen.
As with other discussions on this topic, we'll probably get contributors suggesting you set shortcut properties to start the app maximized, but you and I know that is not what we're talking about.

  • I can't open InDesign CS5 file in CS6

I created a document at work in CS5. I saved it as an INDD file and transferred it so I could work on it at home. However I have CS6 and whenever I try to open this file, my InDesign loads to about 80% and then just freezes. I can't do or click anything. It never crashes, just gets to the point where I have to ctrl+alt+dlt each time.
    I am using a Windows 7 computer.
I need to finish this for tomorrow and I don't have access to InDesign CS5 at all to make it an IDML file or fix any fonts.
    What do I do?

Try open as a copy, and/or the script at Adobe Community: InDesign 6 is crashing when attempting to open a particular document. All others are opening OK.
