I can't open itunes!...really p.o'd!!

My fiance has an iPod so we already had iTunes for his. He got me an iPod a few days ago but since it's one of the newer ones, iTunes said I must upgrade to ver. 7.0 in order to be compatible. I've d/l'ed iTunes 7.0 and I can not open the **** program for the life of me!! I've even uninstalled it and reinstalled it. I upgraded QuickTime with it and it's running fine. When I try to open the new version of iTunes NOTHING happens. I don't get an error message or anything. I'll click the shortcut button on my desktop and the hour glass pops up and the just stops. NOTHING! WHY?! I'm getting really P.O'd cuz I'm antsy to use my new iPod. Can anyone please please please help me??! I'll love you forever!!!

hey there.......I was having the EXACT same issue you were having but I just figured it out! iTunes will download but not open if your PC is running Windows Service pack 1, you have to have Service Pack 2.....if you go to Conrol Panel, to System, it will tell you what you Operating System is, I bet it says Service Pack 1 on there. All you have to do is upgrade to service pack 2 off the Microsoft website and you will be all set to use iTunes!!!!

Hi! I really hope someone can help me with this-
iTunes just had a popup that there was new software to install, so I chose the update to iTunes. The download was almost finished, but then it stopped and said there was a problem with the download (obviously) and to try to install it from within the program. Fine by me. Only, I can't open iTunes now?? It tells me that, "The item refered to by this shortcut cannot be accessed. You may not have the appropriate permissions."
I'm not even going to try and pretend that I know what that means, lol. I searched my entire computer for iTunes and every shortcut/folder/etc with 'iTunes' in it gives me an error message of some sorts. D:
I even tried to re-download iTunes from this site, but it gets halfway and then gives me error message 2324.
What do I do from here? I really don't want to uninstall iTunes (if it even still exists on my computer) because I'm afraid I'll all the modified song information that I just spent literately hours updating last week. >_<

Similar problem here. iTunes11 notified me it was available. However, auto-update failed. So, I downloaded for manual update. That failed with "permission" message. I am administrator on this machine (WIN7). I tried uninstalling old version, but it failed with same permission issue. I now can't start iTunes... throws permission message. I Had this problem along with the error message that it's missing the driver GNSDK_DSP.DLL. I am Windows XP and fixed the error by going to Start>My Computer>Add or Remove Programs
When the Add or Remove programs list is "populated", Find iTunes on it. Click the link that says "For more information" and the iTunes box will expand. You will see a button that says "Repair" and it says to reinstall the program if it is not working correctly, use the "Repair" button. I clicked the Repair button and it automatically started the reinstall. When all the progress bars disappear (it doesn't really give you any other indication that its done) click the "close" button and try to open iTunes again. It worked first time for me. I also saw another forum where someone said it worked for the other Windows versions by following the same route, just that in other windows versions it might be "Computer" instead of "My Computer" and the Add or Remove Programs function is also called something else. Hope this helps somebody having this problem. It drove me crazy finding the answer, but the fix was super simple once I found out what to do.

After the last software update I can't open iTunes any more. Error message: "you can't open the application itunes because it is not supported on this type of mac". how is that possible? does the system really update to a itunes version, I can't run? how stupid is that?

I think what you are saing is that you have error message free launch failure with iTunes.exe persisting on the processes tab .
If so this is commonly due to a problem with cryptographic services. Here is a diagnostic Method for working out the problem:
Before checking if iTunes works, restart your PC or close the iTunes.exe process with task manager if it is running.
A couple of simple things to try:

But usually it is due to a problem with cryptographic services.
Check to see if you have your smart card service and that it is not set to disabled. For some reason iTunes needs it.

you should find the smart card service in the list. Report back with your findings.
Malware can interfere with cryptographic services and also prevent a resolution so it is important to check that your system is clean before proceeding: Run a virus and spyware scan with up to date definitions.

You should be able to copy and paste the individual lines to save on typing.
Make a careful note of any error messages you get, they are important for diagnosis. Report back any error messages especially the names of any dlls mentioned.

Suddenly can't open iTunes on my computer

I can't open Itunes on my computer. When I try a window pops up and says:
"The iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."
Any help? I've tried removing iTunes completely then redownloading it and I still get the same message. I've been able to use iTunes before this all this started. If anyone has any way to help please let me know, I would really like to be able to use iTunes again. Thanks

Set your pemissiont to allow you Read/Write permissions to the iTunes folder (\Music\iTunes\)and everything in that folder. Hope this helps.

Excellent thanks. I've got iTunes working now, after downloading the latest version of iTunes by clicking Software Update from the Apple menu. And I downloaded QuickTime 7.7 from the links you recommended, BDA. For some reason I'd been unable to locate the latest QT for Leopard no matter how hard I tried—it was probably staring me in the face all the while.

The 50 when launching iTunes can indicate a damaged Apple Application Support. So first I'd try a Repair install of your Apple Application Support.
Restart the PC. In your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select Apple Application Support, click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Does the repair install go through okay? If so, does itunes launch without the (-50)?

this just started w/ me yesterday. I was running 10.5.3, and nothing changed - the message just appeard out of nowhere. I update to the latest iTunes 10.6 but the message is the same.
Sounds like probably some sort of Library file corruption.
The two options available in the message box are "Download" and "Quit". Download is useless because I'm already running the latest. Quit is pretty useless.
I was going to just create a new Library and re-import all my music. Of course, all my iPhone sync settings are going go have to be recreated.

There are various things this could be. First restart you computer
Check to see if you QUicktime works as iTunes can't work without it. If it doesn't work, describe what happens.
Then run a virus and spyware scan as malware has been known to do this.
Then check to see if disabling your forewall allows iTunes to start, this hasn't been seen for a while, but in the past firwall blocking has caused iTunes to hang.

Did you restart your Mac and try again? Sounds simple, but it's a good first step when troubleshooting.
If the issue persists you may need to delete iTunes from the Applications folder and download a fresh copy. This does not affect your iTunes library, which is in a different location.
